I am in loveeeeeeee......my favorite player has alwaysssss been my uncle Roger Troutman..... Rest his soul.....this angel popped up on my timeline and omggggggg.....I've watched his video playing with FB and Maze about 25 times back to back....no lie and I melted in my seat. My ex-husband is a bass player .....father was a percussionist.....family full of singers and instrumentalists so I knowwwwwww music.......JUBUUUUUUU is the truth.....his feel is OFF THE CHAIN.....his delivery is POWERFUL and seamless.....omggggggg I'm on loveeeeeeeee can't wait to see him in person.....I'm gonna tell him how great he ISSSSSSSS......
Saw JUBU, with Frankie Beverly&Maze, a month ago, at the Horseshoe Casino in Indiana. He is baaaad!!! Him,and his stage presence! Love him even more, after this interview! So humble, and talented!
I'm very impressed with this gentleman! I started a music career in Birmingham, Alabama, but gave it up to become an engineer in the U S Navy. My mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother all were musicians (piano). I am overwhelmed with this story. This guy's gift made room for him right away. Smooth as silk and knows the stings!!!
Josh said in this interview that in the days before RUclips, before being able to rewind back, that what you came up with back then trying to learn licks was always an approximation. I took that to mean that he values the little differences where he didn't get licks 100% correct, because those little differences eventually lead to his original sound. A lot of us guitarist loathe those little mistakes, maybe we should work to embrace them.
Thanks Josh for this interview. Glad to see JUBU getting some much deserved shine. I hope you Interview some of the other top African American guitarists such as Sharkey, J-MO, Eric walls, to name a few. GREAT JOB. ENJOYING THE CHANNEL AND YOUR PLAYING.
Jubu along with Holdsworth are my favorite guitarists of all time.. First heard of Jubu back in 1995 on a Nor Cal Mass Choir video tape. Josh, thank you for this. I always said that Guitar magazines should have had a cover story of Jubu years ago.
I can't get enough of brotha Jubu!! Since that Golden time of day guitar solo.. When I'm feeling down, that is my go too video. Lifts my spirits up high. ❤ Thanks for the interview Josh..❤
When Josh Smith interviews other musicians, you will learn so much about the person he's interviewing. It's not the case with a lot of other people, who are doing similar things.
I was just going through RUclips & I stopped this man was doing a guitar solo with Frankie Beverly & Maze & I was mesmerized by his playing. I had never heard of Jubu Smith. He is phenomenal on the guitar I'm hooked. 😮😂😊❤
Jubu hand down one of my all time favorite bass players. I first heard 3 years back and was absolutely struck "My God this is bad as hell". This year my mother and I went to FB concert in LA, He did tha dam Thang. Lord Jesus bless this man with a wonderful gift. All thanks to his dad who inspired him. Jubu much praise sir 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Can't wait for the group tour in LA I'm definitely there hands down.
This interview was unbelievably inspiring, several times I laughed out loud and held back tears. This was amazing. Thank you so much Josh, honestly changing a young Australian man's life here.
I read your comment before I got through much of the interview but now I know what you're talking about especially thespecially the 'clan is all right".. Lol Good to see one of the many good African African American guitarists getting some shine I'm shine..
Great conversation! I’ve been intrigued by JUBU …. I just caught up with his maze performance in 2019 ….. then heard him on Dewey Smiths singing in the church !!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
These interviews are so great , insight, personal interaction, they have it all….. and now Jubu! Actually i became aware of him, because of you. This interview is special: two of the greatest and still incredibly humble guitarists / musicians talking with each other sharing such good vibes, laughs, history, stories with such respect for each other and other great musicians. Humbling….you guy had me smiling, laughing, nodding, engaged … realizing that yes music is lots of work , but that real talent can’t be learnt and yes it’s a vocation and not and an easy one …..and yessss please do the Ju Blues Album, that would be great. I think many , many would ge supportive
Thanks Josh! Awesome interview. So many guitar players mention Jubu, so it's great to hear his story. It's even better to hear that he has no plans to slow down. I hope you guys can make that blues album happen.
This is THE coolest interview. When I can smile and feel inspired I know I am in the right place. Thank you for bring this and so many great interviews you give to all of us.
I’m becoming a ruler just to hear this man talk some more. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Josh Smith, but hearing Jubu speak is so rare and powerful.
This was an awesome interview. As a working stiff, I really find inspiration and encouragement in the passion that you cats have for the guitar and music in general. I think this is something overlooked in a gear obsessed world......but hey we're guitar players and gear is way cool!
Man, he hits two notes and i can tell hes well versed. I think what the bible says is true. If its not from love, it sounds like a clanging cymbal. I think his playing well honors God!
I remember the handful of nights I got to play with Jubu at the Nik's in Marietta, GA (who was there to see his boy Landon Jordan). He'd come in at the 11th hour, and we all stood/sat up a little straighter knowing who we were going to play with. It was always great. Personally I think he hated me as a drummer, and just felt like I was only tolerated. Doesn't mean that I don't still hail him as a harmonic genius, he's absolutely the best musician I've ever played with...but I'll see him again.
Got a chance to know Jubu in Inglewood,California and I must say he has a style of his own.I never let him play my Guitar (because I am left handed) but I surrendered my amp every time Lol. Good brother
THERES, JIMMIE HENDRIX, PRINCE AND JUBU, BY PAR NONE!! WHEN YOUR EARS STAND INSTANT ATTENTION TO THE GUITAR AND WHAT IT CONVEYS, THUS PRESENTED THE BEST!! 🏆 👑
As a fellow Cap and guitarist I’m amazed that our starting Is so similar. I’m from Philly and had some experience. But you great bro. When I saw and you at my Uncles house "Frankie Beverly’s Brother" I was blown away . Keep strumming Jubu and please get on your album. God bless
Jubu Smith is GREAT TOO! He needs to take the blynd and make a three week tour date schedule map like his father did set up his own gigs 60/40 and if its just a 12 dollar show bond the whole thing together over a meal! Keeping a strong band together is quite a task!
Amazing interview! Jubu is definitely that guy. Been a fan since back in the “Spanky” Alford days on guitar. Love em Random question though…..are you the same Josh Smith that went to Dillard High School? By the way…..this is Rico Harmon. I played drums back then. I think our band teacher was Mr. Kunesh
Just great to hear his insight, his concepts are. great if only more people would think like that the workd would be a different place to live in .just a great interview..yeah bro have learnt this bigtime....
his playin is different from everyone else... the baddest! 🔥 I'm sad coz here in Europe It's hard to find his stuff!.... what Prince said to Him???? thnx Josh, thnx so much
Wanted to hear him play, saw him with Tony Toni Tone back in the day live on vh1 smoking also in a clip with Elijah speaking in an accent, that I thought was real!
Great point. RUclips makes it easier to learn a lick, or a song, but it takes away the ear training and mental development for the instrument that comes with having to flesh out licks and songs. The baddest guitar players ever are from the era before RUclips and computers, and the reason for that is having to internalize everything about the instrument and the music in order to reproduce what you’re hearing.
Your uncle is the reason I bought and practiced the talkbox
He is Phenomenal. Definitely a God given gift.
Jubu is the realist deal out there! A gift to us from God. Bless.you man!

Love JuBu!!!!!!🎸🎶🎶🎶🎸
I think that's a good way to be sometimes, it makes licks a little more your own
I don’t even learn people’s licks. I just play how I feel
JuBu Definitely one of the GREATS!
💪🏾💪🏾👊🏾👊🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks Josh for this interview. Glad to see JUBU getting some much deserved shine. I hope you Interview some of the other top African American guitarists such as Sharkey, J-MO, Eric walls, to name a few. GREAT JOB. ENJOYING THE CHANNEL AND YOUR PLAYING.

First thing I get from Jubu’s testimony: Commitment to a singular objective. Much respect to the vision.
Jubu along with Holdsworth are my favorite guitarists of all time..
First heard of Jubu back in 1995 on a Nor Cal Mass Choir video tape.
Josh, thank you for this. I always said that Guitar magazines should have had a cover story of Jubu years ago.

These two(Jubu & Josh) are great innovators. They taught me the infinity of playing music on guitar.

Yep!
Broke my heart when he said somebody took the Stratocaster
@@dontajones2220 Tell me about it bruh! That Strat alone is the reason why I use the whammy bar.
The reason why I even play a strat. I was Les Pauling.
@@dontajones2220 Glad you're on the winning side lol

He needs to take the blynd and make a three week tour date schedule map like his father did set up his own gigs 60/40 and if its just a 12 dollar show bond the whole thing together over a meal! Keeping a strong band together is quite a task!
If you're hitting the road, Jubu - I'll be waiting and watchng. (Goes for Josh, too!)

Great interview. You guys are the best!
Another incredible interview Josh! Where can I pre-order Jubu Blues? I'll be waiting... :)
Amazing interview! Jubu is definitely that guy. Been a fan since back in the “Spanky” Alford days on guitar. Love em
Random question though…..are you the same Josh Smith that went to Dillard High School?
By the way…..this is Rico Harmon. I played drums back then. I think our band teacher was Mr. Kunesh

Great stories about his dad.
I LOVE ME SOME JUBU SMITH ❤ ❤
Let's not kid ourselves. Jubu wipes the floor with Josh and all of the guitar players on the planet.
It's not a competition these players love and respect eachother, stop it
Great point.
Love josh thanks
Can someone please tell me what kind of guitar Jubu plays 😅
Bad dude. I think I just saw him playing with Tevin Campbell but the stage was so damn dark. I could be wrong but sounded like him.
The Great Jubu!
The greatest guitar player alive 2day!!!
The guy on the right looks like Josh Smith with glasses 👓
Two of THE BADDEST KATZ on the Planet!!!!
