What makes Gummi and Pomni even more interesting is that it's a romance that's destined to end in tragedy. You have the in show version where he doesn't remember her (potentially), and Pomni has to move on knowing any version of him she sees isn't the one she got to know. And you have the fanon version where he does become part of the gang and the two do get together, but it'll only last as long as the digital circus does. There's no ending where these two can be happy together without some form of sacrifice, and that's what makes them so intriguing for writers.
@YourLadyStar that reminds me of the dread and uncertainty, of ralsei from deltarune, because he in a similar situation to Gummi, but for ralsei the 2 worlds do overlap, and from we seen ralsei has total FAITH in his place in the world, though his back story from what we know, is that he has waited for the people who he should worship and will be with these exact people, who will be the first being he will interact with, which means he could have waited for years upon years for them all alone, which is not very good for the psyche. he has as in chapter 2, start to question whatever being "ralsei-like even is" which you can answer with "its nice ralsei is ralsei" however, one of the ways we know the world could end is with him most certainly dying in, and the other is not hard for him needed to be killed to save the world. or just him straight up dying regardless since he the guide of the group and the most caring. and he is the suspect #1 of being the twist villain.
Actually, he might be the same version. See, when a file is deleted, you are no longer able to open it, but the data and memory stored on that file are still there. Meaning, when Caine deleted Gummigoo, he never really 'forgot', he was just placed in a different envirinment with a different prompt, and had a vague sense of memory with Pomni, probably remembering her fully at the end when he left and gave her that sad smile as he walked away.
I feel like gumigoo does remember pomni as when hes about to leave he gives her a sad look and its as if he wants to say something but knows his place is to act like an npc.
I think one thing to point out is Gummigoo’s self awareness. Independent of any players he discovered his Character model outside of the playable zone. Meaning he is legit sentient. The fact he is able to make discoveries and even have an emotional reaction to his lack of legitimate existence means without a shadow of a doubt that Gummigoo is a legit an individual, not just programming, he is the literal definition of “I think therefore I am.” The same way Caine has emotional reactions I think this means the Circus must be an incredibly sophisticated computer simulation. Makes me wonder who designed it and why?

I think wee're being shown that Cain isnt actually a good developer or whatever he is. He misses simple solutions, ignores feeling that cause abstraction, and mashes random ideas together unfinished instead of thinking of more permanent solutions. In short, i dont think he would think of this by himself.
When Gangle confronts Pomni when she's "flirting" with Gummigoo and tells her to get back to work, Pomni responds with saying "But, it's Gummigoo" and if you look closely at Gummigoo when she says that, you'll notice that he actually looks shocked that she knows his name despite him not even knowing her and he can even be briefly seen trying to reach his hand out to her.

I think Gumigoo has a vague sense of familiarity when Pomni says his name without him telling her. Each time they interact afterwards, he’s got this nervous “pained” look on his face, like he’s worried about something he doesn’t even remember. Pomni probably picks up on this too, when she finally sees him leaving through the door. This is her last possible chance for the forseeable future to talk to him, to see if he’d remember her and the truth of the world they’re in… but she doesn’t take it. We’re entirely in the world of speculation right now, but I think Pomni chose to let Gummigoo go because she doesn’t want him to relive that painful trauma of knowing he’s in a fabricated reality all over again. She found a friend in him yes, but Gummigoo lost everything that day. His brothers and “Ma” were just nothing more than fakes to him now, he didn’t “fit in” in his own world anymore. Now that he’s back to his old self, he’s happy with them again and Pomni doesn’t want to take that away from him. On the chance he doesn’t remember her, she’d have traumatized him for nothing. Pomni might have realized that Gummigoo will just end up poofed by Caine again no matter what, so she lets him go, living life as he should have as an npc. They’re literally from two completely different worlds, so she accepts the painful truth that a deep relationship with him, romantic or platonic, just wasn’t meant to be.
My theory isn't that an NPC has infiltrated the player characters, but that Cane has accidently mistaken a player character for an NPC and eventually we're gonna see a new character in an adventure who's gonna be like "I'm not an NPC. I'm real but I'm hiding from Cane because he's trying to delete me." or something like that. Also, as refreshing as it is for a creator to try to shut down any toxic shipping wars before they happen, this hasn't been the first time a creator has said something definitive before changing their mind or just straight up lied to their audience.
Also, since I'm sharing baseless theories, I'm pretty sure we're gonna find out that the "players" aren't NPCs but aren't really human either. They're computer programs copied from brain scans of the humans they thought they were. That's why some memories of their previous lives are missing, that's why they don't need to eat or breathe or sleep and that's why there's no real way for them to escape the windows 95 desktop toaster PC they've been downloaded into. As far as the human versions of them are concerned! they just put on a VR headset that scanned their brain into a computer program and then they just went on to live their normal lives while a copy of their consciousness lives on in low poly hell. Oh, maybe the real world faced an apocalyptic end and copying people's brains into a computer was the only way they could think of to save the human race in some capacity.

I was a firm believer that Gummi didn’t remember and was just trying to be polite and not say he was creeped out by, from his perspective, an overly obsessive person who’s also an employee he’s never met before. But after hearing that he might be intentionally not revealing anything in order to protect Pomni’s feelings, that does resonate with me also.
I really love seeing Gummigoo again in the latest episode, it's just a shame that he doesn't remember Pomni now because of Caine. But hey, at least their limited screentime together is pretty sweet despite being awkward. I ship Pomni x Ragatha, but I really love Pomni x Gummigoo as well. Also this thumbnail is cute too.🥺☺️🃏🐊

From an in-universe sense I don’t trust the word of someone who’s pretty much high off their rocker, so on one level I don’t take Ragatha calling what Pomni was doing “flirting”, but from an “I am watching a show” perspective I see that a line like that is meant to put an idea into a viewer’s head. But my person take is that it’s not necessarily an attempt to flirt.

If this has a connection to Angel Beats like I think it does, I have an AU for the ending. Hear me out. Pomni becomes the new head of the circus. They dismantle Cain, but they realize that the circus is there for a reason and someone has to take his place. Pomni does just that, probably due to her empathy that the world and all the NPCs would disappear as she's grown fond of them all. Also, if people are still gonna come to the circus, she'll probably want to play a better role in helping them with whatever reason they're there. However, just like Cain had Bubble, Pomni needs a sidekick. Who better than Gummigoo?

SO TRUE!!! I am not gonna have any romance in my story either. It's not gonna be that type of story. The only thing closest to that is how women obsess over the main character, Little Tiny Weiner, but that's more like lust. At maximum age, he's 14. Shipping him with anyone but his female friend, who also has autism as him, should put you on a watch list. Also, he's aroace, so he's not gonna have feelings for girls romantically. Women's obsession over him is a side plot. Important, but not the main focus.
9:59 I find this shot interesting because he glances over at his buddies for a sec. Now, this could still make perfect sense if he doesn't remember what happened, but if he DOES, it could indicate that he felt he needed to choose between them and Pomni in that moment. Maybe he wasn't pretending out of self-preservation, but to protect the lads. That could also be why Pomni looks back at Ragatha directly after. It might be a way to show how they're each making the choice to stick to the respective groups they feel they belong to Now this is highly speculative, but imagine if you will the following scenario: After going poof in episode 2, Gummigoo's memories up til then were saved to his "file". So after that, he's just put right back with the lads for a fast food trip DIRECTLY AFTER THAT from his perspective. So he needs to play it cool around them, making sure not to let them catch on to what he's been through. And that means acting like he doesn't know Pomni. ALSO I JUST NOTICED THE SHOT AT 8:25 MAKES IT LOOK LIKE HE REALLY WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING TO HER. If he was really reset to factory defaults, you'd think he'd be more confused about Pomni knowing his name and saying "It's not like this is real" right in front of him. I wasn't convinced before, but now I'm pretty sure that he does remember what happened somehow.
Does Gummigoo remember? Hard to say because it can be left to interpretation. Honestly, I see two possibilities. 1. We’re dealing with something akin to Robocop rules. Caine (OCP) can do their best to scrub the memories of their subject, but slight flickers will still remain. Perhaps Gummigoo did forget but could be reminded of what happened. Like how someone can regain a repressed memory by experiencing a similar situation. Everyone is paying attention to Gummigoo’s expression that I think people miss the BIG HINT in the DIALOGUE. Gummigoo doesn’t react until after Pomni says, “it’s not like any of this is real.” If Gangle didn’t cut him off he might have been on the verge of re-unlocking his mental breakdown. 2. There might have been something to Caine’s apparent PTSD for not being able to tell the difference between an NPC and a player/user. Even if it is really slim, it is possible that Gummigoo might have been a real person at some point. Perhaps everyone that previously abstracts gets merged with the game code or something. Which is why they seem to have such distinct personalities. To the point of some NPC’s like Gummigoo having vestiges of humanity left over. It would also explain why the player becomes a shadowy eyeball monster, it’s whatever bits that get leftover the program doesn’t need. 3. (Just thought of this one now.) It could also be something resembling Tron rules. Where NPC’s or programs can have such detailed personalities because they are in some part, built off of certain elements of their creator’s character. Like how Tron reflects certain aspects of his programmer, Alan Bradley, and is basically his more heroic alter ego. Of course there is also the scenario where people like me are vastly overthinking this, and the whole thing with Gummigoo was just to add to the existential horror of the show. In other words, it was never meant to be a plot that got followed through on. I suppose that could be the case, but why give a side character the lion’s share of screen time in episode 2 if nothing was going to be done with them? That is my only real critique of the show so far. There is a bit of a problem with character focus. Despite being the center of attention in this episode, it feels like Gangle only gets about 40% of the total runtime. With the rest going to a disgruntled Jax, Ragatha who has no alcohol tolerance, and Pomni trying to reignite her friendship. Why is Gangle so scared about leaving the job she clearly doesn’t care about? Did the real life equivalent of Spudsy’s burn down due to her irresponsibility or something? I feel like there is something deeper to explore there, but the show never gets the chance because it is constantly jumping between characters. Odd because Kinger didn’t really have this issue in the previous episode. (Why do I get the feeling that the odd numbered episodes are going to be the standouts?)
I, too, was definitely seeing the shipping potential in this episode with Pomni acting like a schoolgirl with a crush upon seeing Gummigoo again after seeing them platonically the first time. It was so cute and added to the tragedy of Gummigoo forgetting her. It reminds me of the “Things Change” episode from Teen Titans.
What I find interesting is how people take whether he remembers or not as a completely binery question. I’m personally of the opinion that he finds her familiar but can’t remember exactly, that’s why he’s reaching towards her when she says his name instead of just backing away or saying something. To me it makes her decision to let him go more impactful as it’s sparing him from his existential crisis and letting him keep the facade.

Personally my only issue with this ship is that if she escapes she’s basically forced to leave her boyfriend and realize that he’s just a computer program now, not another person trapped in the circus. I like this idea for conflict, but it kinda messes up the ship for me
My way of bypassing this problem is making an AU where Gummigoo is actually human. It's just an AU but it helps make things easier to ship without guilt.
You say that Gummy goo has a mom because Cain is obsessed with lore which makes sense, but i have a more fucked up interpretation I think the reason that dude has lore is because Cain needs to geruntee that he will be a villain so he gave him a motive, like if hes characters might not fill their role if they dont have motivation to do so

I've never read Pomni and Gummigoo's relationship as romantic. Hell, when Ragatha said Pomni is flirting with Gummigoo, I interpreted that as, in Ragatha's high state, she's reading it as flirting when it's really more platonic. The last time Pomni saw Gummigoo, bro got Thanos snapped out of existence with no warning and her tripping over her words whenever speaking to Gummigoo felt more general disbelief because Pomni was never sure if she was going to see Gummigoo again and them running into each other at Spudsy's was the best chance to get some closure, even if Gummigoo really doesn't remember who Pomni is and what they've been through together. ...I will admit I do think Ragatha is potentially gay. Her small interactions with the candy princess did read a little gay, but to each their own. 😅
I feel like him remembering is worse though- there are ways it can be copeium and he breaks free. But I feel like what is more in line is that the people they’ve met are trapped in their bodies, on a treadmill getting them from point A to point B, without the ability to say the wrong thing in fear of getting confettied. That is far more tragic than them staying dead imo
I feel like people don't understand that if Gummigoo remembers Pomni then wouldn't the other NPCs remember Pomni? The two lads are aware of Pomni and know that Gummigoo left with Pomni after episode 2. Also the other NPCs don't remember any of the other cast. Even if Gummigoo does secretly remember. Pomni realizes she needs to let go of Gummigoo and let him be happy with his Lads. We probably won't see Gummigoo again. But might still get more merch of him.
I don't exactly ship Pomni and Gummygoo, but I immagine them like being really close friends, you know, like Molly McGee and Scratch, or Anne Boonchuy and Sprig Plantar.
I don't know how this series will end, but given the general tone, I wouldn't be surprised if this series ends on a bittersweet note. I've already seen the theory that the Circus troupe here might not be people per se, but rather digital copies of people's minds that exist without the original person still using the mysterious device. If that's the case, that probably means however this wraps up the characters we're seeing most likely can't leave the Circus, hence the bittersweet aspect. Still, if they do find some peace within the Circus and figure out how to work with Caine without feeling like they're subject to the whims of a mad god who doesn't understand humans, I do wonder if there's an ending where Pomni at least does get to have friends like Gummigoo around to keep her company in addition to her other friends. Maybe NPCs like Gummi, Orbman, and Gloink Queen + kids could fill all those guest rooms that are now empty from abstracted users.
You know what's interesting, Pomni will likely never be able to fully recreate Gummigoo's existential dread, they glitched into a model room, how will that ever happen again

I think Gumigoo has a vague sense of familiarity when Pomni says his name without him telling her. Each time they interact afterwards, he’s got this nervous “pained” look on his face, like he’s worried about something he doesn’t even remember.
Pomni probably picks up on this too, when she finally sees him leaving through the door. This is her last possible chance for the forseeable future to talk to him, to see if he’d remember her and the truth of the world they’re in… but she doesn’t take it.
We’re entirely in the world of speculation right now, but I think Pomni chose to let Gummigoo go because she doesn’t want him to relive that painful trauma of knowing he’s in a fabricated reality all over again. She found a friend in him yes, but Gummigoo lost everything that day. His brothers and “Ma” were just nothing more than fakes to him now, he didn’t “fit in” in his own world anymore. Now that he’s back to his old self, he’s happy with them again and Pomni doesn’t want to take that away from him. On the chance he doesn’t remember her, she’d have traumatized him for nothing.
Pomni might have realized that Gummigoo will just end up poofed by Caine again no matter what, so she lets him go, living life as he should have as an npc. They’re literally from two completely different worlds, so she accepts the painful truth that a deep relationship with him, romantic or platonic, just wasn’t meant to be.

My theory isn't that an NPC has infiltrated the player characters, but that Cane has accidently mistaken a player character for an NPC and eventually we're gonna see a new character in an adventure who's gonna be like "I'm not an NPC. I'm real but I'm hiding from Cane because he's trying to delete me." or something like that. Also, as refreshing as it is for a creator to try to shut down any toxic shipping wars before they happen, this hasn't been the first time a creator has said something definitive before changing their mind or just straight up lied to their audience.
Also, since I'm sharing baseless theories, I'm pretty sure we're gonna find out that the "players" aren't NPCs but aren't really human either. They're computer programs copied from brain scans of the humans they thought they were. That's why some memories of their previous lives are missing, that's why they don't need to eat or breathe or sleep and that's why there's no real way for them to escape the windows 95 desktop toaster PC they've been downloaded into. As far as the human versions of them are concerned! they just put on a VR headset that scanned their brain into a computer program and then they just went on to live their normal lives while a copy of their consciousness lives on in low poly hell. Oh, maybe the real world faced an apocalyptic end and copying people's brains into a computer was the only way they could think of to save the human race in some capacity.

I was a firm believer that Gummi didn’t remember and was just trying to be polite and not say he was creeped out by, from his perspective, an overly obsessive person who’s also an employee he’s never met before. But after hearing that he might be intentionally not revealing anything in order to protect Pomni’s feelings, that does resonate with me also.
I really love seeing Gummigoo again in the latest episode, it's just a shame that he doesn't remember Pomni now because of Caine. But hey, at least their limited screentime together is pretty sweet despite being awkward. I ship Pomni x Ragatha, but I really love Pomni x Gummigoo as well. Also this thumbnail is cute too.🥺☺️🃏🐊

From an in-universe sense I don’t trust the word of someone who’s pretty much high off their rocker, so on one level I don’t take Ragatha calling what Pomni was doing “flirting”, but from an “I am watching a show” perspective I see that a line like that is meant to put an idea into a viewer’s head. But my person take is that it’s not necessarily an attempt to flirt.

If this has a connection to Angel Beats like I think it does, I have an AU for the ending. Hear me out. Pomni becomes the new head of the circus. They dismantle Cain, but they realize that the circus is there for a reason and someone has to take his place. Pomni does just that, probably due to her empathy that the world and all the NPCs would disappear as she's grown fond of them all. Also, if people are still gonna come to the circus, she'll probably want to play a better role in helping them with whatever reason they're there. However, just like Cain had Bubble, Pomni needs a sidekick. Who better than Gummigoo?

SO TRUE!!! I am not gonna have any romance in my story either. It's not gonna be that type of story. The only thing closest to that is how women obsess over the main character, Little Tiny Weiner, but that's more like lust. At maximum age, he's 14. Shipping him with anyone but his female friend, who also has autism as him, should put you on a watch list. Also, he's aroace, so he's not gonna have feelings for girls romantically. Women's obsession over him is a side plot. Important, but not the main focus.

My big question is why ragetha and gangle remember things outside the circus, but pomni doesn't.
9:59 I find this shot interesting because he glances over at his buddies for a sec. Now, this could still make perfect sense if he doesn't remember what happened, but if he DOES, it could indicate that he felt he needed to choose between them and Pomni in that moment. Maybe he wasn't pretending out of self-preservation, but to protect the lads.
That could also be why Pomni looks back at Ragatha directly after. It might be a way to show how they're each making the choice to stick to the respective groups they feel they belong to
Now this is highly speculative, but imagine if you will the following scenario: After going poof in episode 2, Gummigoo's memories up til then were saved to his "file". So after that, he's just put right back with the lads for a fast food trip DIRECTLY AFTER THAT from his perspective. So he needs to play it cool around them, making sure not to let them catch on to what he's been through. And that means acting like he doesn't know Pomni.
ALSO I JUST NOTICED THE SHOT AT 8:25 MAKES IT LOOK LIKE HE REALLY WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING TO HER.
If he was really reset to factory defaults, you'd think he'd be more confused about Pomni knowing his name and saying "It's not like this is real" right in front of him. I wasn't convinced before, but now I'm pretty sure that he does remember what happened somehow.
Does Gummigoo remember? Hard to say because it can be left to interpretation. Honestly, I see two possibilities.
1. We’re dealing with something akin to Robocop rules. Caine (OCP) can do their best to scrub the memories of their subject, but slight flickers will still remain. Perhaps Gummigoo did forget but could be reminded of what happened. Like how someone can regain a repressed memory by experiencing a similar situation. Everyone is paying attention to Gummigoo’s expression that I think people miss the BIG HINT in the DIALOGUE. Gummigoo doesn’t react until after Pomni says, “it’s not like any of this is real.” If Gangle didn’t cut him off he might have been on the verge of re-unlocking his mental breakdown.
2. There might have been something to Caine’s apparent PTSD for not being able to tell the difference between an NPC and a player/user. Even if it is really slim, it is possible that Gummigoo might have been a real person at some point. Perhaps everyone that previously abstracts gets merged with the game code or something. Which is why they seem to have such distinct personalities. To the point of some NPC’s like Gummigoo having vestiges of humanity left over. It would also explain why the player becomes a shadowy eyeball monster, it’s whatever bits that get leftover the program doesn’t need.
3. (Just thought of this one now.) It could also be something resembling Tron rules. Where NPC’s or programs can have such detailed personalities because they are in some part, built off of certain elements of their creator’s character. Like how Tron reflects certain aspects of his programmer, Alan Bradley, and is basically his more heroic alter ego.
Of course there is also the scenario where people like me are vastly overthinking this, and the whole thing with Gummigoo was just to add to the existential horror of the show. In other words, it was never meant to be a plot that got followed through on. I suppose that could be the case, but why give a side character the lion’s share of screen time in episode 2 if nothing was going to be done with them?
That is my only real critique of the show so far. There is a bit of a problem with character focus. Despite being the center of attention in this episode, it feels like Gangle only gets about 40% of the total runtime. With the rest going to a disgruntled Jax, Ragatha who has no alcohol tolerance, and Pomni trying to reignite her friendship. Why is Gangle so scared about leaving the job she clearly doesn’t care about? Did the real life equivalent of Spudsy’s burn down due to her irresponsibility or something? I feel like there is something deeper to explore there, but the show never gets the chance because it is constantly jumping between characters. Odd because Kinger didn’t really have this issue in the previous episode.
(Why do I get the feeling that the odd numbered episodes are going to be the standouts?)

I, too, was definitely seeing the shipping potential in this episode with Pomni acting like a schoolgirl with a crush upon seeing Gummigoo again after seeing them platonically the first time. It was so cute and added to the tragedy of Gummigoo forgetting her. It reminds me of the “Things Change” episode from Teen Titans.
What I find interesting is how people take whether he remembers or not as a completely binery question. I’m personally of the opinion that he finds her familiar but can’t remember exactly, that’s why he’s reaching towards her when she says his name instead of just backing away or saying something.
To me it makes her decision to let him go more impactful as it’s sparing him from his existential crisis and letting him keep the facade.

My way of bypassing this problem is making an AU where Gummigoo is actually human. It's just an AU but it helps make things easier to ship without guilt.

I've never read Pomni and Gummigoo's relationship as romantic. Hell, when Ragatha said Pomni is flirting with Gummigoo, I interpreted that as, in Ragatha's high state, she's reading it as flirting when it's really more platonic. The last time Pomni saw Gummigoo, bro got Thanos snapped out of existence with no warning and her tripping over her words whenever speaking to Gummigoo felt more general disbelief because Pomni was never sure if she was going to see Gummigoo again and them running into each other at Spudsy's was the best chance to get some closure, even if Gummigoo really doesn't remember who Pomni is and what they've been through together.
...I will admit I do think Ragatha is potentially gay. Her small interactions with the candy princess did read a little gay, but to each their own. 😅
I feel like him remembering is worse though- there are ways it can be copeium and he breaks free. But I feel like what is more in line is that the people they’ve met are trapped in their bodies, on a treadmill getting them from point A to point B, without the ability to say the wrong thing in fear of getting confettied.

I feel like people don't understand that if Gummigoo remembers Pomni then wouldn't the other NPCs remember Pomni? The two lads are aware of Pomni and know that Gummigoo left with Pomni after episode 2. Also the other NPCs don't remember any of the other cast. Even if Gummigoo does secretly remember. Pomni realizes she needs to let go of Gummigoo and let him be happy with his Lads. We probably won't see Gummigoo again. But might still get more merch of him.

I don't exactly ship Pomni and Gummygoo, but I immagine them like being really close friends, you know, like Molly McGee and Scratch, or Anne Boonchuy and Sprig Plantar.
I don't know how this series will end, but given the general tone, I wouldn't be surprised if this series ends on a bittersweet note. I've already seen the theory that the Circus troupe here might not be people per se, but rather digital copies of people's minds that exist without the original person still using the mysterious device. If that's the case, that probably means however this wraps up the characters we're seeing most likely can't leave the Circus, hence the bittersweet aspect. Still, if they do find some peace within the Circus and figure out how to work with Caine without feeling like they're subject to the whims of a mad god who doesn't understand humans, I do wonder if there's an ending where Pomni at least does get to have friends like Gummigoo around to keep her company in addition to her other friends. Maybe NPCs like Gummi, Orbman, and Gloink Queen + kids could fill all those guest rooms that are now empty from abstracted users.
