I agree w Evan's assessment of what's been holding us back, especially after reading his article.
He touches on the bullpen issues as well, which can't be ignored.
Cleveland moved Civale last year when they were in a similar position, and I think it was the right move. An Eflin has to be made.
I was all ears on his move w MIL until he brought up the shoulder issue. Now I'm not sold.
How about something bigger, like Randy and Mead, to SEA in a deal surrounding C Harry Ford? They have a need at 3B and in the OF and already have C Cal Raleigh.
A smaller 1 for 1 deal, how about Eflin to ATL for C Drake Baldwin?
2 things that got overlooked in the CLE comparison. After a study, they strategically removed sections of their stadium to improve the stadiums' HR airflow trajectory.
We can't do that. Also, we have a far stronger division to compete w year in and year out w loads of big spenders. So, in theory, our road to the playoffs is historically harder.

The Cleveland Guardians comparison is interesting. It is as though these two teams, who played each other in the 2022 wild card series have completely reversed fortunes over the last two seasons. Both franchises I would describe as pitching-centric. However, the difference has been in their offenses. Last year, the Rays got very good production from quite a few of their players, while the Guardians suffered through an anemic offensive season. This year, the exact opposite seems to be the case. The Rays have sputtered offensively, while the Guardians have gotten great offensive production.
I would go Eflin for Baldwin and Wall from the Braves
It seems like the Rays had an advantage in the past, and now the other teams have caught up to their tactics. Plus, they spend a whole lot more $ for players.
What advantage? And doesn't them losing their franchise player play a big factor? Take that away from any team and it hurts especially the ones that are low spending
Are you talking about an advantage in trades or are you talking about an advantage in the way the Rays do certain things (like assembling a bullpen to get lots of different pitching approaches, converting relievers into starters, creating the opener option)?

@@MyGrandfathersGranddaughter all the things you are saying' plus they used analytics early on and the defensive shift, which they took away. Just all the little things that add up and make a difference. Now everyone is doing those things and the big money contracts the big teams put up makes it too hard to compete now. Orioles are a team that is interesting.

Too Evans point aren't the Rays kind of being forced to make some big moves with Randy n BLowe? So does not already make a roster turn around more than Cleveland? I get what he's saying about sellers or buyers at the trade deadline but I'm saying in the off-season there will be some of the biggest names and producers in years past to their success we'll be leaving changing this team dramatically? Albeit unlikely, I'd like to see a final disposition of the Franco case. How will the contract be settled? The current roster will surely have considerable turnover anyway.
