As a convert, I find that I revert back to songs of my childhood when driving. “Jesus Loves Me,” “Jesus Loves The Little Children,” are a couple that come to mind. I also pray the Rosary and Divive Mercy chapter out loud when driving.

I feel bad for my parish, Father. Less and less people are singing at mass… it feels anemic! I’m among the small few who grab a book and sing along with the choir. Oh, if only people knew how much the Lord yearns for us to sing! It’s why it’s part of the mass!

I always enjoy singing the diving mercy chaplet. I also like to sing some of the old hymns such as Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. But what really helps me focus on the Lord is Gregorian chant. Gregorian chant brings me to a right mind to receive the Lord's presence.

Singing is also a way of expressing one's supplications to God. Like Paul and Silas in prison, we can also sing in difficulty or distress (Acts 16. 25; Job 35. 10). We can even express our suffering through song, and God listens! Thus, David expresses to God his great distress at the death of Jonathan and Saul in a song he composes, “the song of the Bow” (2 Samuel 1. 18).

There is a wonderful article by Fr. Joseph Fessio about Vatican II. A big part of it discusses the history of the Psalms and how ALL were meant to be sung using what we know as Gregorian Chant. Absolutely beautiful!
We must sing we really really must. I’m older was in charismatic movement and also love to sing the songs but sadly the churches off and put out songs I don’t even know and the print is too small to read and unfortunately it’s not like it used to be. Sometimes they play the old songs. But we must sing. There’s a whole different atmosphere when we sing. Sometimes I go on the Hallow app and play music from that. But it’s nice to sing in the church with everybody. Thank you father.

Get out the older Glory & Praise books! Carey Landry, The Saint Louis Jesuits and The Dameans songs were so beautiful to sing to God and so filled with scripture! Time for the priests and Nuns to play the guitar and shake the tambourines again! I'm not kidding here....let's do it. Too many churches have slipped into somber. Yes! I remember the great stuff the Holy Spirit was doing in the church especially in the 70s and 80s and then what happened? It seems to have died. But oh how those days in the church brought me so close to Jesus. I still sing joyfully and prayerfully to Jesus my Savior and Lord. I enjoy the mass from the Catholic Charismatic Center on you tube from Texas. I wish there were more like it!

I totally agree with singing - I enjoy it. In the old days, all the parishes had the home-grown choirs who sang. Normal! Now, Unfortunately, at our church, they brought in a paid so-called musician from 30 miles (and about 5 parishes ) away. He plays the piano and sets the microphone on loud so we only hear him singing. He adds notes (that are not scripted) so that his voice will be heard. At the 2nd or 3rd verse, he starts in immediately without the customary lead-in chord, or 2 or 3 notes, again to make himself heard. He's got all the tricks. At communion, he parades himself up to the center of the communion railing, and has refused communion from our robed Eucharistic ministers who have offered communion to him. He's full of pride and happy with the $$$ he's getting. I have greatly reduced my weekly contributions to the parish because of that. Singing does bring people to church, but I know people here who don't bother to come because they really don't/can't participate.

Back in the 70’s we were involved in the “Renewal” and the “Charismatic Movement”. We were involved in music ministries in a big way, but family came alone and public/spare time became scare. As a new convert this is one thing that protestants, esp. evangelicals do far better - sing! Esp. congregational singing that seems to be not so much a "thing" in the catholic church. We have a very reverent NO church, so not criticisms there but singing is not a priority.

That noise proves NOTHING but that some people are more interested in having a good time at Church, that adoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Clear the smoke from your eyes father.

As a convert, I find that I revert back to songs of my childhood when driving. “Jesus Loves Me,” “Jesus Loves The Little Children,” are a couple that come to mind. I also pray the Rosary and Divive Mercy chapter out loud when driving.

I always enjoy singing the diving mercy chaplet. I also like to sing some of the old hymns such as Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. But what really helps me focus on the Lord is Gregorian chant. Gregorian chant brings me to a right mind to receive the Lord's presence.

I’m older was in charismatic movement and also love to sing the songs but sadly the churches off and put out songs I don’t even know and the print is too small to read and unfortunately it’s not like it used to be. Sometimes they play the old songs. But we must sing. There’s a whole different atmosphere when we sing. Sometimes I go on the Hallow app and play music from that. But it’s nice to sing in the church with everybody. Thank you father.

Get out the older Glory & Praise books! Carey Landry, The Saint Louis Jesuits and The Dameans songs were so beautiful to sing to God and so filled with scripture! Time for the priests and Nuns to play the guitar and shake the tambourines again! I'm not kidding here....let's do it. Too many churches have slipped into somber. Yes! I remember the great stuff the Holy Spirit was doing in the church especially in the 70s and 80s and then what happened? It seems to have died. But oh how those days in the church brought me so close to Jesus. I still sing joyfully and prayerfully to Jesus my Savior and Lord. I enjoy the mass from the Catholic Charismatic Center on you tube from Texas. I wish there were more like it!

I totally agree with singing - I enjoy it. In the old days, all the parishes had the home-grown choirs who sang. Normal!
Now, Unfortunately, at our church, they brought in a paid so-called musician from 30 miles (and about 5 parishes ) away. He plays the piano and sets the microphone on loud so we only hear him singing. He adds notes (that are not scripted) so that his voice will be heard. At the 2nd or 3rd verse, he starts in immediately without the customary lead-in chord, or 2 or 3 notes, again to make himself heard. He's got all the tricks. At communion, he parades himself up to the center of the communion railing, and has refused communion from our robed Eucharistic ministers who have offered communion to him. He's full of pride and happy with the $$$ he's getting. I have greatly reduced my weekly contributions to the parish because of that.
Singing does bring people to church, but I know people here who don't bother to come because they really don't/can't participate.
Thank you Jesus for our beautiful priests who like you lay down their lives and have sacrificed so much for us. Thank you for their online ministries whose wirds resonate in our hearts and bring your truth and light. May they be richly blessed and thank you.

Back in the 70’s we were involved in the “Renewal” and the “Charismatic Movement”. We were involved in music ministries in a big way, but family came alone and public/spare time became scare.
