The issue is that if you live in that jursidiction, and you were to be accused of a crime you'd be on trial there, you also could be on jury duty there. That's how it works unfortunately.

And in my state, it would help if they sent jury summons more than a week before they want you to appear in court. They act like citizens don't have anything going on in their lives that might require rescheduling to accommodate jury duty.

If you don't want on a jury, when they ask if you will apply the law, as they give it to you, but it is a law you don't like, just admit you will nullify the jury. Perhaps not in those words. It would be an honest answer. This would often apply to drug cases, perhaps some motor vehicle offenses, and other things that some people don't think should be a crime.

Beyond introducing myself and letting the attorney and prosecutor know that I was once a victim of a crime, I said nothing else but still got picked. At least now I have a better understanding why. Thanks for this video.
I actually enjoyed jury duty when the trial started, but damn I hated the waiting process. It was 5 hours of sitting in a room with a bunch of others and 3 hours for the trial, but I learned a lot about the system.

I don't think I've ever heard "voir dire" pronounced that way!
I suspect that I would be de-selected out of any jury duty (experience), but neither my wife nor I are ever called to begin with. I've been told that it's the "luck of the draw", but statistically, that's beginning to look unlikely (going by the people around me who have been called multiple times). I have voted several times, never been arrested for anything, legally only ever dealt with traffic fines.
I'm wondering if there are any hidden parameters that the State of Maine would know about me that would prevent them from calling me. As I said, I don't think it would ever lead to my selection, but it makes me wonder how many perfectly good jurors they are missing while they beat up on the same few.

The last time I had jury duty, and I’m not sure if I can disclose the case details, even though the judge had said we could after he dismissed us and this was years ago all I’m gonna say is this. We were in the deliberation room for about an hour and a half to two hours. The prosecution did not do a very good job presenting their case at all. We felt like the attorney was not prepared and did not do a good job. So we had reached a verdict of not guilty and we were about two minutes from going back to the court to present our ruling. It is at that time the judge walked in and told us we could all go home the guy made a plea. I was thinking to myself dude, you were two minutes away from being not guilty
That was a bit odd for me
Question I also have is this if you ever get jury duty and you have a medical procedure coming up three days after it was supposed to start and your schedule becomes extremely busy in terms of job the following week what attorneys look at

What about our fourth amendment rights. Why do we have to answer jury selection questions or go to jail for content. Why do we have to surrender our 2nd amendment rights and tell our opinion in the form of a verdict. Why should we be forced to serve if we don’t want to. There are a lot of people willing to why force those that are not. It don’t seam American to me.

You can't be jailed for answering any questions during voir dire. Even if you stated that you were in favor of complete anarchy (I'm not going into detail due to YT restrictions). The honor of serving on a jury goes back to our Nation's founding. There is nothing more American. But, if you want to know how to AVOID jury duty, we actually did a video about that a few years back. ruclips.net/video/n0mM09un5ZQ/видео.html

Most defendants in my very rural area would be well advised to avoid a jury at all costs.
For example, a few years ago, one 28 year old man pled guilty to the statutory rape of his 14 year old girlfriend. The judge, however, had a minimum sentence he could impose. I think that it was two years in prison. The man wanted probation only but the only way he could get that was if the jury sentenced him to that. So they had a trial for the purpose of determining the sentence. He got the maximum.

My partner lives in one of the countries and he pays for me financially while I’m there with him and while we are traveling together for 6 months in India, then when I’m back in my own country for 3 months I stay with and help care for my mom.
I’m not even sure I’ll be able to put my unconventional life and experiences into a framework that will make sense to anyone.

I was summoned for jury duty but was abroad at the time - l always rented my place out whenever l left the country and upon return l often didn't bother to live in my own house either.
There was a warrant for my arrest out too upon my return , plus a fine etc
Anyway, l contacted the authority and explained my absences and provided proof via my passport etc and they noted that l wouldn't be called again as l had a history of living abroad and unlikely to change my lifestyle.
Edit: l was genuinely enthusiastic to be called for Jury duty too so that definitely helped my case for permanent exemption 😅

I have never served as a juror. I showed up once having received a summons. Once there, I saw a table of about eight or so men sitting at a table playing cards. All of them had drinks and snacks expecting to be there for some time and perhaps all day. If anyone went to the restroom his buddies covered in case his name was called. It was obvious these dudes knew the system and were a small club of guys that knew how things worked. I was never called and neither were any of them. But this stuck with me. Were these guys deeply interested in justice? Were these guys who always wanted to get a day off of work? Were they somehow activists having an agenda that I might agree or disagree with?

I disagree with your assessment of what Voir Dire is intended to accomplish. It is the process whereby those who are capable of rational thinking are identified and stricken from jury duty. Both sides in the case will attempt to present a slanted, misleading argument that deliberately leaves out information needed to reach a fair and impartial judgement. If you can think, you will be able to see through all the legal maneuvering and still arrive at a proper verdict. One side or the other cannot have that happen, so you get de-selected.
