As a local citizen, I view this Business District as a beacon of gradual progress meeting the demand of the times .. or as a "Blueprint" for ongoing and future urban developments across the country ... The rest of the other ghastly-looking, poverty-ridden cities with poor old infrastructure are areas still left untouched by Gentrification / Redevelopment, but places we wish to see improved next ... BGC, therefore, is not "FAKE" or a mere "Facade" but a "STANDING MODEL", a "GUIDING VISION" for Future Philippine Cities as the nation heads in the direction of a better economy.

I was born in Manila, grow up in Makati in one of the enlisted men district, and Ayala Business District was already there, the only difference was it had more trees and greener before. BGC is just a recent development, Makati of 80s and 90s was already modern.

That place isn't the business district of the Philippines but a commercial districts where people go for roaming around, mall tourings, bar hoppings and many things for leisure things. Some of the high stories building here are Condominium apartments. Makati City is the Philippines Business Center, where offices of big business Companies are located.🤓
Last i checked, this is located in the Phils. Duh. Just like any other drug-infested and homelessness areas in any western cities and contrast that with business districts in that western city. Philippines is the same.

This is a very very very small part of the country or even in Metro Manila. This is far from reality from what the country really is. Philippines has so many squatters living in poor and dirty places but it's nice to pretend sometimes that they don't exist and BGC gives you that thought.
That question, " Is This the Real Philippines " is at best, ignorant. This blogger is American and should know that America, before its liberation from Great Britain 246 years ago was in desperate condition. Before America's industrialization, America was an agricultural society. People ate supper at around 3: 00 or 4:00 pm because there was no electricity. Remember that America was once a third world country with only 1 per cent of its population that were educated.
I can imagine the British asking the same question 200 years ago: IS THIS the REAL AMERICA ?

Every country has always a downside of poverty. This video represents the Philippines high end side of her face though, if you go to some district of Metro Manila there are ghetto areas too like in developed countries.
I wouldn't call this fake since its true that there are certainly good portion of people doing well in the Philippines however this place does not represent the quality of life for the vast majority of pilipinos.

BGC is nice because it was developed and being maintained by a private company. It wouldn't be this nice and "secured" if it's publicly maintained.
What foreigners will not see is the "petty" crimes going on in that pretty little paradise because criminals mostly prey on those middle income earners working in that area who commute and go to areas less visited by foreigners and vistiors with their own cars. I know at least 2 victims separately. They were influenced by the big corp to keep their mouths shut to maintain the "pristine" reputation of the area.
Watch for next ten years there tens of same like BGC other place or provinces in the phillipines

Correct, it is not the real Philippines. Because the majority of the people doesn't live in this kind of bubble. I lived in the US for 33 years and when I go home to the Philippines. I can see poverty outside of this place. Go to Pasay just few kilometers from this place. A lot of people have a hard life!!!! Then when you go home to the provinces a lot of people also live on a hard existence.

BGC represents the achievement of our 1% economic elite from the labors of 100M struggling workers/consumers. We are a split-level society sharing the same space.
so what is your answer? communisim? so the ruling government gets to live like kings while the rest of us slum it out? There isn't a perfect system. In the end one better trust their family and friends and government not so much.
On other perspective. 1% worked their ass off to be on top of the social ladder. 20% struggle overseas to help their lazy families back home in the Philippines. While the remaining 79% hoping for a miracle that will never come.

If we all wonder and question and do it non-stop as to why developing countries have this ultra modern spots, then that's almost saying the country doesn't have that potential. Having had this spot already shows it has that capability. The Ayalas are Filipinos. Their great grandparents were born in the Philippines. Their Spanish look doesn't matter. The Sys of the SMs are Filipinos. Their father is from China, but he's also a Filipino. Let's not forget we all our Malay settlers from outside the Philippines long ago. The real Filipinos are the black aetas. This is to establish and stress the point that what we all see, the modern developments are all Filipino-owned. Even the progress of the US is the product of European settlers who call themselves Americans because they really are. The native ones are the indigenous Indians. It's normal to be shocked at something unusual as exemplified by the shocks of the vloggers when they see BGC. But yes, BGC is the Philippines. Though it will take sooo many years to have all the cities in the country looking modern. But we have started. We also owe a big part of this to multinationals, most of them Americans, Europeans, Japanese, and locating their corporations in our country. That's what made China as we see mind-boggling Chinese developments today. They became rich, not completely on their own but a huge part of it was the multinationals' ( the foreign businesses) contributions. In the meantime, the sprouting modern tiny cities we see like BGC is the Philippines.
