Y’all should react to the O’Keefe Music Foundation cover of this song. They crush it. And they are all kids. So it’s rather impressive how well they play this polyrhythmic gem. After 13 years they finally came back and were immaculate! I cried so hard when the whole venue felt the same chills coming over at the start of Aenima and The Pot! And we got a live version of Invincible, which turned some heads as it is so different from earlier work. But man.... that was the best concert experience ever: Tool coming back style. And then at the end of the concert, Danny Carey's daughter came on stage, waving us goodbye and we all had goosebumps again #adorable

    100% correct on the writing. Danny Carey comes up with most of the musical arrangements, the songs are written, recorded, and mixed, and only then does Maynard hear any part of the music for the first time. It's one of the reasons they have so much time between albums. Most vocalist's will work on an album during the same time period as the music, so it's all completed roughly at the same time. Tool basically has to take twice as much time to write.

    • @BrainWasherAttendent
      @BrainWasherAttendent 10 месяцев назад +8

      Maynard is very fast with his writing and recording. It’s mainly the band that take their time composing the music.

    • @tonysoto8949
      @tonysoto8949 9 месяцев назад +3

      Actually TOOL was like most bands and worked on the music and lyrics simultaneously. It wasn’t until after this album that Maynard started coming up with the lyrics after the music was basically done. From the mid 90s to the 2000’s TOOL got caught up in several law suits both from their issues with the record label and others suing them. So Maynard started a new band with the guitar tech who worked with Adam Jones. Maynard thought well we can’t make anything with TOOL until law suits are settled so I’ll concentrate on a new band. So he was touring with A Perfect Circle when they got the OK for TOOL to work on their next album so the band worked on the music and would send samples of it so Maynard could work on lyrics and that is when this adding the lyrics after the music was done started. Also the reason some TOOL fans hate A Perfect Circle which is an awesome band.

      I've never met a TOOL fan that didn't like APC as well but then again I can totally imgaine that roughneck hickerbilly TOOL crowd not liking APC....
      I was just about to step in and comment that they didn't start this formula of handing the music over to Maynard until after it was written up to the time of Lateralus, but someone else took care of that. Although I do remember Keenan saying that not all of the music are necessarily completed but that a lot are. He will sometimes when needed pickup a guitar and rearrange the song when he is firm on lyrics he wants to include.

    Went to a "clinic" that Tool (minus Maynard) put on in 2017 in Columbus, basically an instrumental only mini-show (practice for their festival shows), and they talked about their writing process. They were right in the middle of recording the last album at the time. You're exactly right, Maynard gets the finished music arrangements to put words to based obviously on the overall tone of each song, which is incredible to me when you listen to Wings off 10K Days. Personally I like to hear a song first, and if it's interesting then look at the lyrics.

    Another great Tool reaction, can't wait for the next one. Descending, Invincible, Pneuma, Lateralus, list goes on for interesting songs to check out.

    Honestly, the video screw up is totally fine because it gives off total 90s home video vibes.

    Jud is absolutely right, my favourite music (and tool most certainly is that) layers different but simple lines to make a whole that is complex without being muddy or confuzed. Interwoven. Hows about some Devin Townsend Project?: Kingdom or Deadhead

    During aenima maynard was more involved during the writing process but yeah, since lateralus it’s been much more separate where he won’t write until the songs are composed fully or at least not going to drastically change.

    Every single time I've had tickets to see Tool something goes really wrong & I've missed them like 5 times.
    Did some major psychonaught trips to this back in the day
