Wow you make it look so easy i tried my first spin today and it seemed to twist up so tight all the time and break But it was fun not bad for a bloke rough as guts but i feel good bout it
You should be proud! It's perfectly normal to overspin and have breaks. You should have seen the first few things I spun. Now I try for some of those 'designer' techniques and can't ever get them to happen again lol. You have to get your hands and feet to work together, learn how to pedal and pace the wheel and watch your loft ... that's a lot to do all at once! But you'll get it. Keep going, as long as you're enjoying it, and you'll fine tune it as you go! Happy spinning~
I have and Ashford kiwi... But not a 2 Are they noticeably different? Is there some thing with the treadle? I got mine years ago and never really used it. I want to figure it out. I already know I was loading the yarn from back to front so that might have been one of my problems.
Hi there! I think you're talking about the Ashford Kiwi Traditional? (There was a Traveler that folds up, and I believe you may have had the option of single or dual treadle?) If that is the case, yes, you always want to back load a spindle, whether you sit beside the wheel or have it in front of you. If you do have the Traditional, a nice thing about sitting 'beside' the wheel is the ability for loft. Naturally your hands are going to be holding your spinning at an angle, and that can add a lot! (Loft is 'fluffiness' for lack of a better description, it lets air in around the fibers) In general, the basics are all the same for the Kiwi, although when you get into high speeds and machine spinning, some of that can change based on machine and brand. Single treadles do have a different rhythm you have to get into between your hands and feet, but you will eventually catch on to it. I mess myself up, though, when I have to bounce between a single and dual treadle; and sometimes it takes my brain a while to catch up and realize I've switched. this is very helpful. however get to know the parts of the machine. it is a bobbin on a flyer. not a spindle ????

I wish the kiwi still had the style of flyer you have on your model. The Ashford rep told me it's discontinued.

Toying with the idea of getting a Kiwi 2 wheel, I really like the idea of having a double treadle anyway.
