These updates are great! I'm always ready for a newsflash about Iceland or Yellowstone or Mt. Adams or Hawaii. What I like most is that the news comes via a pro who knows science from hype and can be trusted to relay accurate information and phrase things so that everyone knows what is speculation and what is fact. Ph.D. training in science is a real plus.

"Today in Canada, there was an accidental release of Mercaptan, which is an additive used as an odorant in Natural Gas. This chemical has a sulfur-like smell to make natural gas easier to detect. The smell has drifted into parts of Whatcom County, including Bellingham and parts of north and east county. If you are smelling a sulfur-like smell, and you live in these areas, it is likely that this is the culprit.

Although there have been reports of odor in the affected area you mention, the odd odor being discussed here is in the southwest portion of the state and across the Columbia River in northern Oregon. Ironically your video popped up like 2 minutes after I got a notification on my phone from Fox 12 in Portland discussing this very same thing. There was a live interview from a geologist at CVO who basically said the exact same things you were saying about the earthquake activity under Mt Adams. It's clearly not an imminent threat at this point, but is a good justificataion for getting seismometers and tiltmeters out there; Mt Adams definitely needs more than just a single seismometer in the area. Ironically, the Goat Rocks area around Adams and St Helens is the focus of Nick Zentner's next A-Z series and he's currently also a team member on at least one of the two research groups who just won NSF grants to study the area; so if any action begins to increase around Mt Adams we're gonna have some of the best minds in the business on scene to interpret the data.

Of note also is that over the past 5 or 6 days people from Longview to Vancouver have been reporting a strange odor emanating from an unknown source, and naturally one would think first that one of the volcanoes in this area could be a prime suspect, if volcanic gases from the magma chamber feeding St Helens and Adams are making their way to the surface. However, there's no evidence of that being the source of the strange odor. I _live_ in Vancouver and I haven't noticed any strange odors here _yet._ But it would be intriguing to say the least, if CVO or others were able to detect volcanic gases seeping up through the ground surface in the area of either or both volcanoes while some of this action is taking place below Mt Adams.
