Great video. I am a senior with a 12 year old 4,000 sq ft custom home on 2 acres. I love my home - I picked out everything myself. Emotionally I am struggling to let this home go but I know I must.

Yes, I agree having a video on downsizing after the loss of a spouse would be an awesome video because for me that’s where I’m at and I’m sure there’s tons of other people that are in the same boat! You don’t want to leave but the house is rather large for just one person or children going off to college and now you feel guilty by getting rid of your choosing things, because maybe those things were sentimental to you both a one like that more than the other etc. that’s a huge video. Need any way you could help some of us in this situation

As soon as you think about moving, start sorting and packing. Just in case :)

Is this even possible? The Clutter monster seems moderate now. I got all our daughters stuff moved to her room. Toys are still a big one and laundry. Can you help me feel less overwhelmed by my stuff ,so I can clean with less anxiety. We outgrew our space with 3 grown ups , a child, and a 4 cats. Anything like these videos are very inspiring and helpful for me to cope and clean. Thanks in advance.

I do really think there is peace to be found in the act of letting go and clearing space even on a regular basis (and with kids it's on-going since they outgrown clothing and toys so frequently). AND a big part of this is knowing when you have enough and can turn away the desire to acquire more. Finding that balance is a very personal thing 💗

I like to empty a room and then only move what I love and/or use into it. Dump the rest. Yay!

Throw out old stuff, declutter, donate. Stop buying for a period of time. Xmas gifts should be food, meals, movies, outings, and not stuff…. Same for birthdays.

I've been in a large home for 12 years. Now, I've given myself 60 days to get rid of 80% of the accumulated and move into a retirement place. What a nightmare. The last time I did this brutal downsizing is when I moved from one city to another city. Back then. I only kept what I could get into a 10x10 Storage unit; I had a sale, and I rented a dumpster. My possessions have a bigger hold on me now. It's going to me rough.

This was a great summary of the "big picture" & your tone is very comforting. I'm not moving soon but we've emptied our family's house & it was hard to say "no" to the furniture & sentimental items. Unfortunately, my house is now over filled & some areas I can't reach. Step one is going to be deciding between existing furniture & family furniture, & then arrange for removal. The boxes can be moved to the basement until I have more time to go thru them. Does that sound reasonable? I have ADHD & it's very hard to stay focused & get motivated. Thanks for the advice!

@@MyOver50 I find it unfortunate that the Poster never replied to you. I am currently helping a dear old friend pack out to move in w family and she is so limited in what she can take. I find my self taking on her excess to relieve her anxiety/grief. As such,, I am also " overfilled..." even though some will move on to my daughter who recently moved and has a need for some of these things. All the juggling takes alot of time!!

I would pack up all the things that spark joy for me and are useful, then recycle + donate all that remains

That tends to be the time in our lives we focus more on downsizing, and the more we keep up with regular decluttering the easier downsizing will be in the future...
