✔ Base Requirements:
x86_64 based computer with UEFI boot support.
MBR/Legacy devices may be supported with the MBR patch
✔ CPU Compatibility:
Intel CPUs from starting with Sandy Bridge or later
1st generation Intel Core I series was last supported on ChromeOS 81
Atom, Celeron, and Pentium processors are supported as of Baytrail or later
AMD Stoney Ridge or AMD Ryzen (AMD support is limited)
❌ Unsupported Hardware:
Nvidia GPUs are not supported
Virtual Machines are not supported
ARM CPUs are not supported
Intel Core 2 Duo and older are not supported
Intel
"rammus" is suggested for 1st gen - 9th gen.
"volteer" is suggested for 10th & 11th gen.
11th gen (and some 10th gen) may need kernel 5.10
AMD
"grunt" is suggested for Stoney Ridge & Bristol Ridge.
"Zork" is suggested for Ryzen.

Hey man while performing the command sudo bash chromeos-install.sh, it shows that the ChromeOS disk image has to be installed outside of the WSL VM, please specify a path such as /mnt//...

the good thing I imagine is, that when you find and image that works for you and turn it into the img file, you wont have to repeat most of this again. and you can even install it to a USB instead of using up a huge drive. I liked following this video because its fun to learn something new.

My theory is some computers are more compatible with the chrome OS then others... I've tested the OS and on my Lenovo with a gtx1050ti it crashes... its supposed to be a lighter system... your better off getting GhostSpector OS... a strip down version of windows. It will have less problems run fast and stable. but with a PC that has a dedicated video card it should be freezes and crashing because that makes no sense. Chrome OS is supposed to be a lighter operating system so they obviously made it more compatible with certain devices.@@mannasingh1931

Im pretty sure what my message was is that you need a specific PC for the chrome OS. Not all PCs run properly using that OS. I deployed that OS to a computer with an i7 processor, 16gb RAM and a GTX 1050Ti. This computer would of been more then able to run such a low maintenance operating system and it was the Original Chrome OS and not some copy like Prime OS so I'm not convinced its the best OS to use unless you buy the Computer from the manufacturer. It felt like a waist of time to learn how to deploy this image for the results I go. Now there are i7 computer in the market sold with this operating system but I think the run stable when you buy them from the manufacturer. I haven't seen Chrome OS run stable on just any computer and what I mean by that is that the system crashes. It makes no sense that it would crash on my computer but if it did the reason is, because they make compatible with certain systems only. @@mannasingh1931

Not working for me. I created the recovery media as instructed but unable to open boot menu. went to recovery mode but it says your usb does not contain chrome os. tried another method and it says could not boot from USB. i am using HP Chromebook (loaner).

Hello, I am following your tutorial. I'm on the part about downloading rammus and brunch. I noticed that version 97 for chrome os (also current version of Brunch on github) is not present. On the other hand the 98 version is. Do you know why version 97 of chrome os is not present on the site? And if not can I install a previous version like version 93 (chrome os and brunch) as in the tutorial?
You have to install r97 in order to install the version 98 of ChromeOs :)

I updated WSL and problem persist. I'm usig windows 10 Pro 22H2, version 19045.4291
1. Ensure that virtualization is enabled in your computer's BIOS settings.
2. Enable Hyper-V in Windows features.
3. Restart your PC.
4. Open PowerShell as an Administrator.
5. Run the command: `wsl --set-default-version 2`.
6. Next, convert the existing distribution of Ubuntu. Use the command:
`wsl --set-version Ubuntu 2`. (*Replace "Ubuntu" with the name of your distribution if it's different*.) If you're unsure about the distribution name of Ubuntu that you have installed, use the command:
`wsl --list`, *Here you can see the disrtibution name and then execute the conversion command above (Step - 6)*.
7. To check if your default WSL version is set to WSL 2, run the command:
`wsl --list --verbose`.

Probably because the console is not allowed by the shell to be a controlling terminal.

Very good video. I have been wanting to learn how to do this or a while. It wouldn't open the play store. I'm wondering if it was the version I chose which was the 110. I was happy to get it set up and love the visual look to the OS and how smooth it runs. It's just the playstore hangs and crashes and never loads so I dont know why.

My dear friend i always enjoy your tutorials, i have tried this one but had problem updating the wsl2 since i got newer version of Chrome OS recovery. However in the linux terminal i fail in the last command line in where the brunch tries to turn the recovery into a image. Even the code is correct the recovery .bin file couldn,t be found and i dont know why. (The source and syntax of all commands are correct).(And ther recovery is in .bin format). I apologize for any grammatical error.

It seems that my problem is related to the Processor Virtualization capacity. Even if is enabled it seems too much for my laptop. (Hp 15 Intel Celeron N2840 2.16Ghz 4g ram)

Not working for me. When in Ubuntu partitions P1 to P11 are being created, only 2 got created , the rest produced errors like this:
dd: failed to open 'p8': No such file or directory
ERROR: Can't open : No such file or directory
chromeos-install(.sh): line 335: * 512 : syntax error: operand expected (error token is "* 512 ")

I installed chrome os in my external hard drive with windows 10 which is in nvme, everything is fine chrome os works perfectly. There is no problem till I boot into win10. After booting into win10 the chrome os stuck at chrome logo and then restart. I tried 3 times but same problem. Please help me.

- 11th gen (and some 10th gen) may need kernel 5.10.

If you use WSL 1 you can upgrade an existing WSL 1 installation to WSL 2. To convert an existing WSL 1 distro to WSL 2 run the following in PowerShell,
e..g,: wsl.exe --set-version Ubuntu 2
You should replace ‘Ubuntu’ with the name of whichever distro your WSL 1 install runs.

brunch 93 and volteer 93
Everything till boot was fine

This is probably because the console is not allowed by the shell to be a controlling terminal.
If you can change the command of the shell, try:sh +m instead of sh
