I use a down-filled sleeping-bag (Rab Ascent 700) in my campervan where it is dry, and has a shelf where it can be stored uncompressed, and it is phenomenal. When in comes to backpacking (in the Scottish Highlands and West Coast) then my synthetic bag wins hands down every time. My synthetic bag (Snugpak) lives a MUCH tougher life and gets knocked around/washed a lot, but my down bag is cosseted and treated like a princess!
In cold dry climates with low humidity, down bags are in a league of their own. But in wet, damp environments like the UK, and places where the temperature drops significantly after sunset, I think synthetic bags are usually a better bet.
This was very well done....at the moment we use Big Agnes Daisy Mae and the (men’s version) forgot the name ...and I have a liner to use on cold nights...so far it works...but will be winter camping this year and will need to upgrade...thx
I threw it out to a few Facebook groups, Backpacking Gear Reviews & FAQs, Backpacking & Hiking Enthusiasts, and Hiking, Camping & Backpacking Gear Talk. Thanks for watching!
The issue I have found with down bags i have used, with lateral baffles, is that the down or down/feather mix slips down the sides leaving the area above your body with very little insulation. Sometimes i have woken up cold in down bags because of this.
Havein down is like havein a high maintenance wife...I'll stick with my extra lb. and cheaper price tag with easy care that gits me through them cold nights in the woods :) lol
@@THEBLACKANARCHIST It's tough to say I like down better. I actually find myself using my synthetic quite a bit still. I think for cold weather situation (below freezing) I would prefer to have down because it packs down better and in cold weather I typically have more gear. But in warmer temperatures especially when its humid I'll bring my synthetic with me.

Great info! Gonna refer to your vids for all my backpacking/ hiking questions!
Sara Lott go for it! I’ll have to hit you up about some places to go in New York. I want to go check out the Adirondack Mountains.
Look at all those sleeping bags! Dope video!
Thanks bud! My gear shelves are filling fast.....

Hey thanks for checking it out! Do you feel the liner has helped? I've never tried one and have always been curious about them.
Wool is very good too. It insulates even when wet up there with the best synthetics
Great info for sure - Did you share this on FB? What groups? I'd like to share it from there. Be well.

I’ve heard of this being an issue as well. I have yet to experience it but I’ve read about down clumping and leaving voids in sleeping bags.

Down ⬇️ is not worth it 😜
Price is definitely high with Down. I had two sleeping bags before I ended up getting my first down bag, they aren't cheap!
