This public program explores the multi-disciplinary artistic practice of Zohra Opoku, whose work questions the complex links between identity and multiple heritages. Her work examines the complex links between identity and multiple heritages, exploring questions of self and returning to one's roots in the context of her Ghanaian origins, and delving deeper into the links with her heritage through textile culture.
In this conversation with the artist, the panelists attempt to unfold a critical conversation on the importance of fabric as an art form to enhance contemporary African identity. To what extent can traditional fabric play a role in reconnecting or reconstructing through a diasporic experience? How can we construct and deconstruct the history of textiles, through the reappropriation of traditional techniques?
