i honestly feel like a specific anime art style doesn’t really exist, obviously there’s things that come back in lots of anime but i personality think it really depends on the original artist and the animation studio, they’re all unique
Especially if you look at animes from different generations. Because old animes, just like the disney movies, had barely any shading, for the exact same reason
No, not really. "JoJo's bizarre adventure" is a REALLY OLD shonen jump anime and manga series in which Hirohiko Araki (creator/artist) went in depth of the characters detail and tried to make everything perfectly defined shading and all. In which succeeded. Especially for his time, his art, when corroborated to modern styles is still more detailed on even the littlest things with no execption of shading.

I liked to see the difference in style in hair: how with the Disney style, just 2 lines can convey volume, while the realism style conveyed it with various grey levels, sam style with highlights, and anime with shapes..very nice to show that!

what I think is unique about Sam's channel is that he manages to teach us creatively (through roasting videos, and reacting to TikTok tips..) This really makes his channel stand out from other art channels. You help us see art as a creative journey! thank you, Sam!
Out of all of Sam's videos I've watched, I think this is the one that was the most illuminating regarding the coloring and stylization techniques; having the narration of the decision making during the process is so incredibly useful. I would love to see more comparisons (such as a similar exercise in a different lighting or posing scenario). Also, when he was begging the lineart to land... I felt that on a visceral level, lol.
Thank you for tackling this and letting us know that line art is not something you are very proficient or comfortable with. I think a lot of times beginner artists find that they aren't good at an aspect of their work and take it to mean that it's all bad and they won't improve. We all have our strengths and where we hone our skills is part of how our style is developed.
7:26 I don't know about other artists that do lineart, but when I do art like this I don't go in the order of sketch -> color -> lineart. I usuallly go sketch -> lineart (on different layer) -> color (s on different layers below it) It's easier to color in than outline after for me
I have an interesting challenge that you maybe could do with someone else: take a picture of anything you want, then put it into photoshop. Then erase a random large part of the picture, ex: a rough diagonal line from top left to bottom right, and then complete the rest of the picture different from what it was before and in your own style. Have fun if u do this 🙂
I don't like drawing that much, but seeing you draw makes me want to. I've honestly never been this inspired to make art, thank you for your fantastic content :)
Something interesting about early Disney style is that the line art for their characters was rarely just black: it's usually close to the color it's containing. I first noticed that in Sleeping Beauty in Aurora's forest dress. Pretty nifty.
I feel like doing the top two styles and the bottom two styles, half and half for there own illustrations would be really fun; plus give a lot of good comparison too, lol.💗
Something I would point out is that disney often used coloured lineart in their 2d animated work, not just black. The picture of Ariel that you referenced wasn't a very good example of this, since the Little Mermaid wasn't big on using them, and the end result is really good regardless. Though if you're curious, Cinderella uses a lot of coloured lines, and has examples of what the animators did with characters that had a lighter colour palette (like Cinderella herself).
Love your personal art style the best! It is the perfect blend of realistic and dreamy! You channel is so inspiring and so is your art! Your channel inspires me to keep working on my art channel!!!
As someone who does line art it is way easier to do on paper in my personal opinion. Something I like a about it is that it gives the drawing more of a defined texture. Instead of the way you do it which is more of a let the color give it shape. I prefer drawing on paper because I like the feeling of the pencil on the paper. Instead of drawing on a flat surface with little to no texture. I respect both drawing on appear and drawing on a device as they both come to the same conclusion! Some the vid and the art! Great Job!!

It's really cool seeing this cuz even though he's using the same proportions and general style throughout the 4 squares, they still look so different when you just color, lineart, and simplify/ complicate the details
I've seen a lot of people's styles, but I still like yours the most hahaha. It seems simple but not simple. The works of art are rich in content. It's like writing Chinese characters. The fewer strokes, the harder it is to write beautifully. I think Painting is the same
a small tip to get the flowy disney style lines is to hold your pencil like a small piece of charcoal and try to make lines as smooth as possible in a single stroke, its kinda hard on digital.
Wow! This was really interesting to watch, and a great end result! It's cool to see how the same character can look so vastly different based on their sylization.
