- Yesterday on stream, the Great One Fallow showed up on my Te Awaroa map after only 548 kills, 9 Diamonds, 5 Trolls & 2 Rares! And it was my absolute favourite rack - The Irish Elk Rack and it had the Painted Fur Type - absolutely STUNNING! I was so excited, I started to tear up! BUT, things did not go according to plan. The shot did not register. Whether it was me or the game, the end result was a GOLD and I'm back shooting fallow to try and spawn another with a very heavy heart! What do you think happened? That was FUN! Such a beauty. My first thought was when you asked (polled) which gun to use was .243 hand gun, then I remembered it's been a little high inside of 150, at least for me. Then when you lined it up, I was saying to the screen, NO you're too far forward. I love your winning attitude, "I can do it again."

It was heart breaking to watch this on stream, I think we all experienced some sort of shock when we realized there was no vital blood splatter, so sorry for you Lady, this must have hurt even more it being the wrack you wanted I hope you get another one in half the amount of kills, We all know you truly deserve it, the way you pulled through that, that is a true Legend, i can truly say not everyone would have handled the situation in the same manner and probably would have backed out in a heart beat. Just want to encourage you here. I've only started playing since beginning of April. Learned so much from your videos. Hit level 60 super fast and have a ton of diamonds and rares and the fallow grind is the first one I'm seriously doing. I've got a ton of diamonds and know a GO is on the way. Your content made all of that a ton easier. I'm really bummed that this turned out the way it did, but I know you'll get another soon. Thanks for all you do to help players get the most out of the game, and it's still a great trophy!

hey Lady! i absolutely love watching your videos, the Irish Elk rack is probably my most wanted rack out of them all! So sorry to see that it didn't turn out well, but knowing you I have no doubt you'll keep up the hard work and get another chance! I shor my first great one ever yesterday and it was a Fabled Hooded Paddle rack! Definitely gonna go for a Painted Irish Elk rack next! so beautiful!

Literally had the exact same thing happen with a level 5 rocky mountain elk last night, absolutely perfect shot, but I was using the 7mm and somehow the bullet went up into it's spine..
Luckily I was able to change the time and get him to come back before he died.

That's a huge heart breaker @LadyLegendXO defiantly feeling your pain.... I must admit watching the shot placement back a few times. I used to make the exact same shot placement but after having a few similar results I have stopped aiming this high permanently. I would also say that using a pistol as well they do generally have less penetration compared to the 243 rifle so yeah defiantly got robbed with that one :( . I am sure there is another one in your future coming up

I think it was the angle, since you fired from a prone position, and he was higher in the ground than you. The bullet must have taken an upward/diagonal path.
Did you not see the slowmo footage? It was because it did the headshake just as she took the shot.

Hi LadyLegend, i'm so sorry of how that said it was a spine shot it should have been a lung shot i cryed when you pick it up and it showed that you will get another great one on your map soon i started shooting fallow i'm around 84 kills into it i got a melanistic and a diamond so far and another lvl 5 on my map right now

I was playing COTW in New Zealand and saw a guaranteed diamond fallow but somehow messed the shot up so it made gold 😢😭. So something horrible both happened to us

When I'm laying down and shoot, my shot seems to hit higher plus the 243 handgun with my experience shoots high. It might have been the combination that got you. If you would have took that same shot with the 308 I truly believe you hit top of the lungs, so not a bad shot but the combination of what I said. Please keep your head up. i just got a Fabled painted fallow today after playing te awaroa map for the first time, i hunted on the map for 3hrs and only killing 15 fallows, although i ended up getting a spine shot which i was very sad about, hopefully i could get lucky again to take a perfect shot on one.

Hello where is the setting that enables you to see someones markers, i saw that you got it in the guided hunts, but when i tried to find it and i even google it and i couldnt find it. Maybe you can help? btw I feel so sad about your Great one , it was so beautiful
At the same time you fired the shot he shook vigorously. Its possible you hit his antler and deflected into the spine. It doesn't take much to deflect a bullet in this game. 7 meters is not enough to change where the bullet hit, you could of zeroed for 100 and still hit the same spot.

I think I might have an explanation for why this happened. If I recall correctly, the rifles in COTW are zero'd for 100 meter shots. 30-some is well under half of what it is zero'ed for. Bullets from a rifle don't fire exactly straight. They fall downward because of gravity. Thus, firing from less than 1/2 the zero'ed distance, it is going to be a high shot -- approximately one dot higher than centered.
i messed up dimond roo an still mounted it,i tried shoot it while walking an wont do it again lol , even tho that took you a while to grind i still think you got an awsome trophy, keep your head up an keep on huntin

To be completely honest, i think that because the fur on the great ones is puffed up a little more than the normal ones it made the shot look good although it wasn't. The exact same thing happened to me on my first GO red deer.

Can you please answer this one question? How often do you change reserves or how often should we change. Is there anything I should know thanks.
If you stay off a map for a long time, a lot of the zones will disappear. So it's not a bad idea to go onto every map once in a while

What do you use to keep count of your kills?
thats why i dont do crazy things i havnt gotten a great one but when i find diamonds i just shoot right away to get my trophy and get out of there

I've found that if you're on the ground and haven't fully crested hills/terrain or had an unobstructed shot, it affects the penetration. I'm always hesitant to shoot anything important in the prone position.
I’ve noticed after starting again that even rifle shots from 200 metres are off. I use the the new 7mm for hunting Bison to stack cash and some of my shots look perfect but don’t hit where I aim. Your shot looked good to me, if anything it may have hit the shoulder blade but definitely not where the game said you hit it, no way! Bad luck but congrats also.

I had something similar happen with a kangaroo. I shot through it's torso and hit its leg on the other side, looked like it went straight through the lungs on the x-ray but it didn't count for some reason.

I truly think that the 243 handgun shoots high. I’ve messed up both a diamond raccoon dog and a diamond lynx within the last couple of months despite being at the exact zeroing range.

When you see the vitals remaiming the same like that and not coming down fast turn the PC or playstation off straight away and it will still be where it is on the map. Such a shame!! I know this is only a game but some of these animals are absolutely mind-blowingly beautiful especially after putting all the hours of work in. So sorry. Still an absolute amazing find. Well done! X

I was there for this I'm so sorry lady 😭 we all have bad luck sometimes and I know this was the one you wanted as well. You'll get another one soon. But if I'm being honest next time I wouldn't recommend going in too close because the zeroing gets weird when you're up close like that. Try a rifle next time like the 308 or 270

I was there for this, and I deeply, deeply empathize with your anguish after this happened.
A few months ago, I was looking for a diamond mulie on SRP and found an initial spawn HUGE max weight diamond bighorn sheep. I have had terrible luck with bighorn sheep and I was over the moon with finding him. I placed my shot and it landed in almost the exact position that yours did on your GO. At first I was sure I had it, but as soon as I saw initial blood as not vital... I still remember that feeling like a heavy stone in my chest, the twist in my gut, and the flush of frustration, sadness and anger.
Yes. It's a game. But it's also hours of hard work, dedication, perseverance in the face of exhaustive repetition. Then comes editing, processing, reliving the moment. It's creating community with like-minded people who share in special moments. What some people said afterward truly lacked empathy. I am so glad so many rallied around you. Count me among them.
You're one of the people who inspired me to create content. I wish you the very best luck and a swift grind for your next GO.

On top of trying to put out a video everyday, I have been staying up til 1 am shooting fallow to try and get this guy to spawn. I'm lucky it was a pretty fast grind but it hurt all the same. I think it had to do with the scope, how close you were and the zeroing, since likely the big zoom with little zeroing would be very precise than a 150 zeroing that 10 meters is nothing 50 meter zeroing only 10 meters closer can make a big change together with having aimed a bit too high
edit: the closer you are the more likely it is to make a mistake because there is less room for error moved a little to much and it pass from a perfect lungshot to a shoulder or skin shot, but I bet the second great one will go a lot better

Truthfully after looking at the harvest screen and the shot placement, I think you did just aim a bit too high and forward. The shot is within at most a couple inches of where the sights were. To me it looks almost exactly dead on.
That's literally the same Great one Jaxybeard messed up too. Is that exact Great one fallow harder to hunt than the others?

i would probably rest as soon as I saw the nonvital blood.
The 243 pistol definetly overshoots every time in less than 100m shots. Doesnt matter the zeroing. More than once between 40-60m I aimed at the lowest part of the lung on roe deer on cuatro this last week and usually it goes up into their spine. Dont know if its a new bug or something since i never used it before but in the last 30 ish our of gameplay thats what I noticed. 100-200m its nearly on spot every time. Under 75m and it overshoots.
That is heartbreaking. I'm actually going to test it and send my findings in to EW cause that's a serious RIP! Thank you so much for sharing!

Although, I've shot several animals, different maps, and sometimes the bullet just dont register or something.
Like,the animal just doesnt react ,idk if its a hit box issue or what but it happens to me all the time.

34-46 meters was the estimate on the distance between you and that Fallow Deer. You had you zeroing set at 50 meters and you also were aiming high, and that’s what resulted in a spine shot.
