Thank you, Comrade. I love this session. You brought back old memories. You are an encyclopedia, Comrade. I wonder how you remember the coach names, the scores, the year, and the host nations. We are talking over 60 years of history. You covered every important stage of our football history. USA 1994 was the most painful part of our history. We had a great team. We had a golden chance to really go far in the tournament, but disunity among the boys really affected us. The Bulgaria that we trashed in the first game reached the semi-final. The Italy that struggled to beat us in the round of 16 extra time reached the final. That showed how good the team was. Some people say Keshi started the mafia against Rashidi Yekini. He also confirmed in one of his interviews many years ago that it seemed some players were not happy with Yekini in the tournament. He said Yekini knelt down in one of their meetings in the USA to beg his team members that they should forgive him if he offended any of them. It was obvious against Italy cos our forward players, especially Amokachi were not passing to Yekini. The game could have been 2 nil before Italy got the equalizer. Also, in the first game against Bulgaria, many of them didn't celebrate with him after he scored our first world cup goal ever. I don't want to believe that Keshi was part of the mafia because he did more good for the Super Eagles.
Comrade Dan is spot on. My late uncle "Martins Eyo" was part of the Green Eagles 1980 squad and he received a Car, a house in FESTAC and MON honours. Kudos to this intelligent history connoisseur.
I don't even watch European football but this man makes me want to go watch the local league. Very interesting listening to him. Comrade's stories brings back the glory
I also remembered the painful loss of "Balu Balu n tafin" of 1984. We were in secondary school then even uptill now the loss is still been felt by us and for the IICC and Mathematical Odegbami.
Babangida took over power from Buhari in 1985. He could not have been head of state when that match was played against IICC in 1984. If you say he came to watch the ball, he must have come either in his official capacity as COAS or in his private capacity as sports enthusiast
Comrade Dam is an asset to this country. Stationery Stores when the founder The Late Chief Adebajo was alive was the best managed privately owned club in Nigeria. Their players were then residing in Apapa in one of his houses. After his death fans were then funding the club as the company Stationery Stores is now managed by his brother but shares owned by the children who were not ready to spend as their late father. They were then sourcing players from the secondary schools hence fans of other clubs thus make jest of the club by calling them " Poku ni owo e"
Comrade Dan. You're very articulate, intelligent, accuracy. Respect Comrade.
