Menards has truly been my saving grace as I recently entered the hobby! It’s not easy spending close to 100 dollars on a single freight car, so Menards is definitely on the right track for making the hobby more affordable! Thanks for sharing and great job as always RJ! Keep it up my friend!!
Menards is definitely the way to go for an entry level hobbyist. Get yourself three Menards cars for the price of one Lionel or MTH premier car. When I started in this hobby over 20 years ago, you could get either a MTH railking car for $30 or the MTH Rugged Rails line of cars for around $20. Lionel O-27 was another way to go for a cheaper alternative. Yeah, rolling stock is quite expensive today. Altas, Lionel, and MTH all going for $60 and up! I'm all into the scale stuff so building my roster of rolling stock way back when it was cheaper sure has helped the wallet some. Today, I rarely buy anything unless it really catches my eye. Thanks RJ for bringing this to light. Menards is making it easier for people to get into this awesome hobby!
All my rolling stock is from menards I also have the Santafe aa locomotive train set and the unionp rtr train set I have almost all the tank cars and box cars and a few military flat cars with loads
I have to concur, the Menards line is great value for the money spent. I have several Menards cars and the only problem I had with some (not all) were weak couplers, they'd pop open when part of a long consist. Not a big deal, I run on closed loops and don't do switching, so I cable-tied the couplers shut. No problems after that. It will be VERY interesting to see what they come up with in the locomotive department considering their experimental release of the Santa Fe diesel. Yeah, I can't bring myself to spend $100 on a freight car either, especially since at the last show I went to I got two conventional Lionel steam engines, one for $120 and one for $100.
@@rj.trains You know, I kinda liked those shiny trucks! To each his own I guess. I MIGHT get one if they add a conventional control option, and definately if they put one out with Jersey Central markings! I watched the RBP Trains review (VERY well done) and think the rapid acceleration and sudden stops could be cured by wiring the motors in series. At any rate, it does look promising.
A nice collection of Menard's rolling stock, RJ. Menard's is just the kind of O gauge supplier that the hobby needs to allow new fans to start collecting without having to spend a lot of money right away. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year's holiday with family and friends!
Hello RJ, I’m a new subscriber and I just wanted to say I’ve been watching some of your videos and they are very nice. you have some amazing work. And I wanted to say I’m starting my very first o scale layout! And I’ve seen some of the prices and stuff from Lionel and MTH. And this video is a lifesaver and I wanted to say thank you! Keep up the great work my friend!
@@rj.trains yea I’ve had HO scale for the longest time. I just have always wanted o scale! And so I’m making my dream come true slowly but surely! But this video came in at the right time and it honestly saved me a bit so I can know that I have somewhere I know I can get some good stuff for cheap! And I know you have a bigger channel then I do but I’m going to give you a shout out when I upload a video inboxing of my car I bought last night! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Years!
Another great Christmas video. I agree with everyone's comments in that Menards has some excellent items. Wish they went into engines. If you look at the hobby as a car dealership, they are selling you a cheap car that will get you to point A to point B. Well as Lionel will sell you with all the bells and whistles. While many of those bells and whistles are great, do you need them? Anyways, happy holidays and play with your trains this Christmas 🎄
Several years ago at the store in Menomonee Falls wisconsin thay used to sell starter G scale sets but not anymore... I still like to go there and check everything out it's amazing what you can get here besides a hobby store.. I'm all G scale But I enjoy videos like this.. Your layout and fleet is Awesome.. Thanks for sharing 👍
I was building a Menards csx tanker train and they stopped carrying them this season. Not sure why, but hopefully they bring them back long enough for me to finish my purchase!
Always interested in updating and improving my o gauge train collection with rolling stock grom other manufacturers I have right now marx and Lionel postwar tr rolling stock looking to upgrade my rolling stock
What Marx did in the postwar era, Menards is doing again in the 21st century. Reasonable quality trains at a reasonable price, and being the friend of the O-gauger on a budget. In all fairness, there are the occasional wonky freight cars, but nothing that can't be set right again at the workbench, and for the price, it's a trifle. Run just fine on my O27 pike and fit in with the rest of the fleet, didn't break the bank, so I'm happy. Looking forward to the F-Unit, the test versions look great and I'm hoping they might do more than the Santa Fe for the final production version. Mopac blue would be nice...
Hi rj I just love your videos! I'm glad they're selling trains so cheep. I saw your polar express video earlier. Can you tell me what the trains speaker said please. From Cory
Is any one else selling similar, I was excited to see real 3 rail track and a great price when I was in the Cheyenne store but unfortunately there are no Manards near me. Great clip by the way.
I bought a small Menard's set and it's OK. The only disappointment was the "rebate" is a Menard's gift card redeemable ONLY in person at Menards, but there is no Menard's close enough to me.
I forgot to ask you if a long island railroad streamlined steam locomotive exists. And request more streamlined steam locomotives especially the Penn railroad torpedo and the Chicago and north western streamlined steam locomotives and the Reading Crusader and the milwalki road Hiawatha f seven streamlined steam locomotive.
I agree that MENARD'S is a positive force in the hobby. Most of what you said is correct. But a few of the MENARD'S freight cars are scale!!! The box car is a near exact scale size PRR X-29 box car. Not a huge number of railroads had X-29 box cars but like you said a deal at $20. The 40ft Gondola is scale size and the older style tank car makes a good scale 8K tanker. The 4 bay hoppers are to narrow but still a good size....just not scale. Menard's '14" flat car' is another great scale freight car even at the $30 they charge of it. You can see the new Menard's locomotive, a EMD FP-7 (or 9) it too is a scale loco. THANKS!!! ruclips.net/video/GEFrGbvwOjs/видео.html
In my opinion menards makes better rolling stock than lionel Take some of their tank cars for example with metal hand rails and metal trucks And high quality metal couples they are sure gonna last you are the line now have plastic trucks and Don't work quite as well
The model train hobby is expensive.I’m new to the hobby I have Lionel starter sets. It seems cheap enough But 259$ 279$ 399$. 3 or 4 Sets. Your at 1000$ Bauchman N’scale. &. Ho starters 120 250$$$ There all nice but pricey Collecting. In the true O’ gauge scale is unbelievable $$$$$ Glad to see some is trying to keep it lower I love the hobby. But. OMG
Rj you did a great job on your layout thanks for sharing

I’m cheap when it comes to rolling stock. I will be going to Menards to expand my O scale. Now they need to make passenger coaches

Merry Christmas and yea that analogy is spot on James
They got engine s now
The auto industry needs a Mr. Menards to manufacture an affordable vehicle that isn't insanely expensive to service.
I agree menards needs to make Santafe passenger coaches with lights and up passenger train coaches with fighting
Nice video bro! I need more of those jeep cars!
You and me both!
Love it!! Great video!! Love Menards stuff. I have a bunch as well! I hope to get one of the Santa Fe's on the 3rd go round.

Great analysis and awsome video
I got at least 15 pieces golf rolling stock, Arbys, and the double shed. Top quality.
I love Menards they look good they run pretty good
The Menard's cars also have unique road numbers for each car, which is great if you buy several of the same car!
Thanks again RJ
You bet
Great video 🚂❤️👍Awsum job
Thank you very much!

Make sure to check the website, they just did a new run of tank cars

I am hoping for a Chick Fil A!
@@rj.trains LMBO!!!!!!!
U woud like to see passenger coaches from menards with lights I would buy every one of them for my up or Santafe train sets

My Menards covered hopper cars all keep uncoupling on their own. You get what you pay for. I'll probably glue them closed to prevent a collision.
O love menards 0gauge trains I have 4 buildings 40 rolling stock and 3 locomotives
Bob Weaver would make toy trains in Pennsylvania cheaper than MTH for a Lionel would charge for car made in China.

I agree the flatcars are close to scale as well. Some other stuff is more O27 but either way still great value
@@rj.trains The MENARD'S 10 inch flat cars are very narrow......but the 14 inch flats look like clones of WEAVER scale cars. Thanks!

How do you like ur piggly wiggly
It is good value, expect a couple of broken parts out of the box
They look expensive to me.
Well the engines are Lionel, everything else is Menards
If you like cheap junk, then Menard's is for you.
