When the park closes at the end of the year, what do you do?
    Look for other work?
Is there anything to work on when it closes?
Today im going to answer this question and more that you didn't even know you had.

As a frequent visitor to Universal Orlando, it is amazing how a park that never closes is able to maintain such consistency in uptime on rides. It must be a relentlessly disciplined system. Rare to see something down for more than an hour here or there.

@@FloriDUH_JBot and most of the time you won’t see the holes because people don’t go daily for months at a time. And those parks have a larger crew dedicated to this process so it’s maximum work over minimum time. Most importantly, the park understands this process has to happen. The worst parks still just think maintenance likes to play a power role by taking rides down???? Doing work just because they are in a power play? So strange for those.

For anyone that has SFGAm as their home park, you can start to notice these refurbishment cycles.
For example, American Eagle actually has three trains per side and they are cycled every year. One year you might see trains 1 and 2, but then the next you might see 2 and 3, and then 1 and 3 the year after that. (train number are first number, so 11, 21, 31, etc)
Same for Raging Bull before it hits 3 train operations, the first two at the ride on opening day are different each year.

@@ryantheridemechanic the amount of force to put a nylock upside down is astounding. I would like to see a video of you trying to do that. How many attempts will it take you or will you throw in the towel? How does thread pitch and diameter impact the difficulty. I now need to know.
I know it varies place to place, but what are the differences between annual commissioning vs first time commissioning. In that regard what would you maybe expect with the commissioning process of TT2 modified trains? Marcus Leshock today dropped a video interview with Tony Clark and he said that in December Zamperla tested the new train and they're expecting the other two trains to be back in early March. It's an interesting case in that the ride is getting new trains so it's like a hybrid between first time and annual commissioning. Unless of course there's no big differences between annual and first time commissioning.
More interested in the nylock answers truthfully 😂

I am 3 weeks away from going to Cedar Point's Winter Chill-Out (I was lucky enough to purchase a ticket to this charity event) and that always includes visiting the various Maintenance shops onsite (and some just offsite) and seeing the coaster trains, and other ride parts, in various stages of being refurbished. The staff is there to explain things and you can ask questions. It is always fascinating. I had not been able to get a ticket for the past 4 years.

I am honestly surprised that x-ray imaging is not used to inspect small parts for cracks and other integrity concerns. A good x-ray image can pickup cracks forming at a molecular level which is why it is used for rappelling and rock climbing equipment.

Employees at Kings Dominion and Carowinds that got recently laid off during the off season are job hunting. I have seen videos at Hershey and the maintenance that they do. They also acknowledge that they make changes that increases safety that manufacturers don’t require. There are several excellent videos on RUclips. Hershey is impressive. How did you handle the tension between having enough inventory to fix what is needed without extended downtime, and the budget constraints that carrying inventory creates? What about the conflict of deferring maintenance that leads to bigger and more expensive problems down the road? Who ultimately makes those decisions within the park management or company?
