Hi! I love this channel and your reactions. Citypop is beautiful, it always goes a little further. 3 recommendations - Futari no natsu monogatari. Kiyotaka Sugiyama - Rosy in blue. Rejie - Carnival. Taeko Ohnuki
We love that you’re going through your list. It’d be cool if you grouped 2-3 songs by the same artist and reacted to them in the same video!! Meiko nakahara is city pops song writing music composing genius! I suggest nemuri hime and futari no rainy day. She’s so badass!
OMG! My comment! 😆😱😄 Your pronunciation is perfect. Thank you for reacting to EPO! The rest of the songs are going to be incredible too. If you can react to an EPO song next time, I recommend "Saturday Night Paradise" 土曜の夜はパラダイス. It's the best happy song. 😊😊 P.S. “JOEPO DOWNTOWN “ This is the album version of the song and it has the feel of a song that would be played on a radio program.
A channel that covers exclusively city pop songs is just what I needed! ❤️ Love this stuff, and your reactions are great, love how you feel the music… that’s how it should be. I have some recommendations as well! Love Space and Daydream, both by Tatsuro Yamashita. They have killer basslines, you may have heard them already though. Music Train is another pretty unknown Tatsuro song, but the full version isn’t even on RUclips, only Apple music, so not sure if that’d be possible, but I think it’s my favorite of his. Cupid, Aitsu wa Brown Shoes, and Ai Wa Energy all by Miki Matsubara are really good and underrated. The chorus in Cupid makes me ascend every time Sweet Love by Junko Ohashi feels like the musical equivalent of melting. It’s amazing. BRING ME TO THE DANCENIGHT and STAY BY ME by Anri are just beautiful. DANCENIGHT is super groovy and STAY BY ME is just so emotional. I think you’ll like them if you like Anri’s other stuff. Older Girl by 1986 Omega Tribe has a really cool retro feel, more so than other city pop songs, and it’s really cool to listen to. If you see this, I really love your stuff, keep it up. Hope you’ll at least listen to one of these in the future!
Appreciate the feedback and the suggestions. I won't lie Tatsuro Yamashita is the reason I got into City Pop so I've pretty much gone through his whole discography at this point 😅 I'll defo make note of the other suggestions. I'm currently mid changing jobs so that's why I haven't posted in a bit but back soon!
EPO was a beast!! She was THE voice in the 80s city pop. All the background vocals are by her as well as the vocal arrangements, a skill she had perfected while doing a lot of jingles for radio shows and TV ads ever since she was a teenager. She's provided background vocals to so many songs by so many artists. She's also a gifted songwriter who's written so many bangers. She was definitely a Tatsuro Yamashita / Taeko Ohnuki diciple, and she has worked with both. She was a big fan of Yamashita and Ohnuki's old band SUGAR BABE, and this is one of the three covers she's done of their tunes, the other two being "Parade" and "Konuka Ame", both of which are great if not better than their original versions. I highly recommend her albums "GOODIES" and "HARMONY", both of them no-skip masterpieces.
"DOWN TOWN" (Lyrics: Ginji Ito, Music Composed and Arranged by Tatsuro Yamashita.) The original song from ”Sugar Babe's” first album "SONGS" Released on April 25, 1975.
(Rough English translation of Japanese lyrics) The sun was setting, and the sky is twilight that changes to seven colors. The wind feels somehow to begin cooler Saturday night city is bustling The streets on Saturday nights are always full of people. Still, this cheerful city is alive and fashionable It looks like always to be fun Even my gloomy feeling When I look at the city, I feel completely better Just as excited as everyone else. ※ Down town he Kuri Daso! Let's go to Down town Let's go to Down town Let's go to Down town It will disappear somewhere like a soap bubble before you know it. Tonight's one-off love is also fun. Cause the night has just begun. Even my gloomy feeling When I look at the city,I feel completely better. Just as excited as everyone else. ※ Down town he Kuri Daso! Let's go to Down town Let's go to Down town Let's go to Down town
I thought someone else might have written about this, but I looked back through the comments and it seems like no one has written about it, so I'll write about it 😌 This song, "DOWN TOWN," is a cover, and the original was a song by Sugar Babe, which included Tatsuro Yamashita and Taeko Onuki. The singles were released on April 25, 1975 and April 21, 1982, respectively. The lyrics were written by Sugar Babe member Ginji Ito, and the music was composed by Tatsuro Yamashita. The song was produced by Shigeki Miyata, and the main arrangers were Tetsuji Hayashi, composer of "Stay with Me - Miki Matsubara," Kiyotaka Sugiyama & Omega Tribe, and Nobuyuki Shimizu. The chorus includes Tatsuro Yamashita and Taeko Onuki, who were members of Sugar Babe at the time and were on the same record company, as well as Mariya Takeuchi. This song is included in EPO's debut album "DOWN TOWN". At the time of his debut, EPO described his music as "yellow pop", and this album was produced with the aim of creating a unique music that was neither rock nor pop. The majority of the songs on the album reflect EPO's own experiences in lyrics and songs he had written since high school. EPO, who was a first-year student at a sports university at the time of the release, recalled his feelings after the release of this album, saying, "As a debut album, it was highly praised musically. I felt a little uncomfortable in the entertainment industry. I wondered every day if I could make it." As such, the recording was not smooth sailing, and there were differences of opinion with the producer, but he said that going back and forth between the extremes of his daytime university life and then staying in the studio until the morning to write songs was a fun, stimulating, and exciting day. She also says that for her, the most important thing in recording is not technique but the atmosphere, and he places importance on the attitude and personalities of the musicians involved when they approach their performance, saying that recording would be boring without the chance happenings that arise from the relationships between people at the time. Please also listen to her songs "Ongaku No Youna Kaze / A Wind Like Music" and "Taiyou Ni Pump!Pump! / Pump! Pump! in the Sun."🤗 And please also listen to "Mevius Story" by Reimi, a female singer-songwriter who has a similar feel to her from the same period.✨😄
Great reaction and great to see you're back with the uploads! EPO is sooo good, definitely one of my top artists too! If you don't mind, I'll throw a few suggestions in here, if and whenever you wanna check any of them out 🙂 Junko Yagami - 夜空のイヤリング (Night Sky Earrings) Yoshimi Iwasaki - What's Love? Piper - Summer Breeze Akiko Kosaka - Ocean Floor Kazuhito Murata - September Lady Kojima Michiru - 遥かなる楽園 (Harukanaru Rakuen) EPO - Escape Mari Iijima セシールの雨傘(Version II) (Cecile no Amagasa Version II) Sorry for the long list, but hope you like these! Take care! 😊
Hey! I've been checking out a few of your reactions and so far, I'm loving your enthusiasm and passion for this wonderful genre. Another great song by EPO you might consider checking out is Alley Cats [アレイ・キャッツ] (1986)
I will introduce the evergreen "Chuo Freeway" released in 1976 by Yumi Matsutoya (known as Yumi Arai at the time), who has been at the top of the Japanese City Pop scene for 50 years, from the dawn of the city pop era to the present day. This song is included in Yumi Arai's fourth studio album, "14th Moon." The title comes from the Central Expressway, which runs west from the center of Tokyo and was built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The song describes the scenery of the area around Fuchu City, Tokyo, including the US military base in Japan (fully returned in 1974), the Suntory Musashino Brewery, and Tokyo Racecourse, which can be seen when heading from Chofu to Hachioji on the Chuo Expressway. This song is based on the memories of Yumi Arai's future husband, producer Masataka Matsutoya, when he used to drive her to Hachioji on his way home from work. It was also selected as a theme song for the Studio Ghibli film "Kiki's Delivery Service" released in 1989, but was not selected because it contained specific place names in Tokyo and did not fit with the film, which was set in Europe. Another song by Yumi Arai, "Rouge no Dengon / Rouge's Message," was used instead. Yumi Arai's "Hikouki-gumo / Contrail" is also used as the theme song for another Miyazaki Hayao work, "The Wind Rises" 😌 YOASOBI also covered this song on the compilation album "Cheers!!Yuming," released last year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Yumi Matsutoya's debut.
One of the best EPO song, pure City Pop ❤❤❤ A short carrier, in the end of her 80's she has changed hert style compared to City Pop, very interesting, more in adequacy as her lifestyle. An underrated artist, but her short discography is gogeous ❤❤❤❤
Man, I love city pop already and now I'm hooked to your reaction vids haha. Check out Sotsugyou by Momoko Kikuchi, it's chill af and has spaceship vibes 🌌
I read after that Tatsuro Yamashita wrote this song. Why am I not surprised
なつかしい、ひょうきん族のEDだったね。
It brings back good memories of my high school days, it was the ED of comedy show "Oretachi Hyoukinzoku".
Oh man !! That harmony on this !!! Absolutely trippy and lovely ! What a bassline too. Splendid choice !
