@@oscarknowsnothing5498 Nah mate, it does not. Either they should be in their full orc armor, or they should be in only their tattered shirts by that point in the film
Interesting how they have prototypes of Frodo/Sam’s Orc disguise helmets, but they didn’t actually commit to the idea. Kind of a shame they are instead direct reprints from Rivendell.
@@vincereviews1090if true, that will be a nice touch. I still think it would look silly to have them in their hobbit tunics with just an orc helmet. Should have been a full outfit. I guess you could take some of the included orcs apart to accomplish that.
Yeah you’re right it would have been nice to have at least some dirty printing and armor for them specifically. Hopefully they release a full wave in the coming years. They left a lot of scenes untapped and if it’s anything like the Harry Potter line they can just redo everything they did before with updated elements!
You can see the helmets are included if you zoom in on the back of the box of the new official images. They are wearing them in one of the images so they are definitely included as accessories.
Doesnt seem like it but hopefully ostgiliath not sure how well minas tirith will look mostly at 500 because its so big. But with ostgiliath u can make a 300 dollar set around the river area so it gives insentive to get two differnt sets to get both ends with maybe some alternative builds.
It is amazing and I bought it day 1, however my biggest complaint about it, that I see no one talking about for some reason, is why does the eye, the main focal point supported by a black bar? Did they not consider using trans clear pieces to give it a better illusion of it floating? I feel like that would have been the obvious thing to do considering your focus goes striaght to the eye. I guess it probably had something to do with it moving and possibly technic pieces . Would have been better @ $399 and frodo and sam should have had their full armor on.
Love the set. Looks great. Minifigure mains i like but the orcs less so. What i am sad about is that the GWP just makes a lot of people buy it sooner than they might find comfortable.
This is the first exclusive set from lego i've been excited to purchase at full price that i have in any memory, its been so long. Knowing how i match up with mainstream lego consumers though, it will probably flop because its a really evil and forboding looking set. Im going to avoid any more spoilers for this and enjoy it to full.
0:42 “Rivendell was already out when we started.” Well, that’s a lie. We got the prelim image for Barad-dûr from that big survey leak in February 2023, a month before Rivendell came out, and that design looks fairly close to the finished model. Not really sure why they would lie about something like that, but there you have it
I think the wood legs are just too tall. A single plate taller in either the torso and/or legs would be plenty for a height difference on both characters.
I'm just not feeling this set. Basically it's only half a tower, as soon as you rotate it even just a little bit, you see the flat back. Did we really need an interior? The movies show one scene which is likely inside the Barad-Dur dungeons, and that's Gollum being tortured... yet I don't see a way to recreate that here? Also, if they included Sauron to represent the 2nd age, then why not go all the way and include Elrond, Isildur, Elendil and Gil-Galad? That would have been way more interesting than generic orcs. And why could we not get correct outfits for Frodo and Sam? It's just not as well thought out like Rivendell was.
@@mrBluesky1986exactly. I don’t understand why Lego would hint at Sauron and Isildur in the image in Rivendell and not even consider creating Isildur for Barad Dur. Doesn’t seem like a great line up of figures for $500
I’ve heard enough of this half tower nonsense, I very much prefer a set with an interior, you have a place for the minifigs to be put, and half the tower also means it will cost less. So picture this an 800$ set with no interior, no minifigs. Sounds lame to me I’d choose the one we got.
Not to be that guy but in very early 2023 there were leaked preliminary images of the completed Rivendell set (which didn’t come out till mid 2023 and images of a barad-dur were part of that leak and they look almost identical to the final product- so they are lowkey lying… to say that they didn’t start on the set till “after” Rivendell was released
Why weren’t these designers held to account in this interview for the poor quality of the Frodo and Sam minifigures, besides the helmets? They’re clearly not suitable versions for this set…
It'd be respectful to give credit to all the Barad Dur Ideas submissions. That's where the real work started to bring the LOTR theme back! Can't wait to get this set!
I have to say these two were pretty boring. Maybe after working on this project for so long they got bored seeing it and talking about the set. You’d think they’d be a bit more energetic!?
It's a pretty poor representation of what barad dur is suppose to be, it's the largest fortress in 3rd age Middle Earth, dwarfing Minas Tirith, this looks more like a mid sized iron trunk mostly there for the eye, which shouldn't really be there to begin with Compared to Rivendell I'm pretty disappointed by this, tho tbf imo Rivendell is the best set Lego ever made I hope people enjoy it tho, it is an iconic movie set and I could do with saving 450eur haha
I agree, they messed up the proportions, gave it way too much brown and light grey and made Sauron as tall as a human instead of giving him the avatar body size. Frodo and Sam being exactly the same as in Rivendell is kind of cheap of them too. It's $460 and we're still going to have to buy more pieces to make it look right👎
I am disappointed with this set. It just does not look appealing to me overal; don't get me wrong, it has some things I like about it, but the general vibe and look of it just isn't for me. If you compare the two, Rivendell is on a completely different level and it blows this one out of the water.

Such an immersive looking set. I'm glad they got in a fair amount of color and lots of playability.

LEGO lies a lot. Especially in the Star Wars realm. Sad to see it here in LOTR now too.
If Lego went full LOTR, I think I would ditch Lego Star Wars 😂 but seriously we need LOTR battle packs that don’t cost $35!!!!
35 beats the 175 Dollars for the smallest of second hand lotr sets
I wish lego would use the "woody" length figures more often. Sauron should be a woody figure, as should Chewbacca...
Definitely not. The proportions would be way off especially chewbacca.
Yep. Huge miss that they didnt make the legs longer. It has been disgussed online for moooonths aswell
