Wish I had known him. From what I’ve read . Bruce thought a lot of him. I’ve heard of a book he produced. Kid from darkness to light. Would love to know if it’s available. Rest In Peace Howard. You are much admired.
Wish I was able to meet Howard. I heard much about him from Sifu Tommy Carruthers and others. Howard Williams Jesse Glover, James yim Lee, Ted Wong are a few of the Pioneers of the art of true art of fighting .. Thank you Shanda for sharing this video
I had the privilege to meet Howard Williams at The Tracking the Dragon event in Birmingam. I rang Chris 2 days later to thank him and Howard was in the car so he asked to speak to me. Not only did he remember our conversation he kept me on the phone for 45 minutes talking all things Bruce and JKD.. Something I will never forget. An amazing man. Thank you Howard x
@robertcraig8590 I wanted to ask you about the difference between him and other original JKD instructor.. but because maybe you just trained with Williams, you can't tell, rigth? It seems Williams completed the training of Tommy Carruthers.. who trained under Ted Wong Do you know if there is an instructor of Howard?
Yes you are correct...I only trained under Howard....he said as I recall that he was trained by James Lee mostly ....that was during the green hornet days.....I wish I could've met James Lee but that was before my time....
Thanks for sharing. I had the privilege and good fortune to train with Sifu Williams both in NYC and Virginia. He was a down to earth nice guy. Sadly he was taken too soon.
thanks for the upload man. This is a true jkd treasure. A great man to listen to and respect to him for speaking the truth and understanding what jkd really is.
Shanda thank you so much, this must be as close as one can get to the truth, may his students be blessed. I hope one day my son will take a good look at this In fact, the world needs to know who he was the one who knew the Art.
Biggest blessing outside of hes own talent, that happen to bruce, was the scene and the time period he found himself, when moved to US. Those guys like james lee, edmund parker etc, where the cream of their time, who tried to take a new and an scientific aproach to martial arts, it is quite evident that bruce applied this observation and approahment from those circles.
Hey 👋 this is Larry Milam from Indpls, Ind! Wud u happen to have any training/teaching footage available for those that wud like 2 understand ur Grandfather's JKD Interpretation ?? Heard alot of things of how Sifu Howard really understood JKD like n other words He Really Got It 🤔! It would very Kool if u have footage...Thanx , Larry!
This guy knows how many times bruce fought , I did see a documentary that was named : bruce lee and his friends he was in it . Bruce lee fought so many times outside the ring because he got challenged many time . I wonder why the documantary got lost from you tube ..
The respect that have for this man is utmost!!! Obviously skillful, knowledgable and generous with sharing his experience with both Bruce and James Lee. But on the subject of power i strongly disagree!! There are more than many who have demonstrated tremendous power and speed behind their skill. And if you ask 20 different students what JKD means, you will get 20 different answers. He said so himself that he was from at least one era of Bruce's art. Here is only one side of the story regarding Bruce and JKD. An interesting video to watch nonetheless. Thanks for sharing!!👍👍👍
But yet everyone that had experience BL had basically said the same-his speed and power. And for them to be alive to witness sports like boxing, ufc, etc and still say this. And I'm pretty sure the likes of him, Dan Inosanto, etc not only watch sport but attends martial art event and will compare that to BL and still saying what they're saying. For example, theres a video of BL in a hidden video in Hong Kong where he side kicked a dude with a pad and literally canon that dude like 6-8 feet away. I've googled Scott adkins, or any sidekick from martial art here in youtube and nothing come close.
TO ME ADDING STYLES IS A WRONG WAY OF GOING ABOUT IT. THE BODY HAS TWO ARMS AND TWO LEGS AND IN FRONT OF THE BODY THERE ALREADY EXIST BODY FIGHTING POSITIONS, FIGHTING POSITION SUCH AS STAND, KNEELING AND GROUND FIGHTING. HERE WHERE THE ADDING COMES IN. IS NOT SO MUCH ABOUT ADDING FROM OTHER STYLES BUT ADDING THE ESSENCE OF THE TECHNIQUE.
Bruce good actor. he lost against Jack man wong and closed his San Francisco school as the loser of challenge match must do and started looking outside of wingchun for answers... if Bruce had less pride he might have been able to really learn from Jack man wong who was a northern shaolin master...,
@@axelstone3131 Bruce closed his school and left town and started looking for answers outside of wing Chun that is the truth take it from there good luck
@@joanstone6740 I agree with this information: Bruce wanted answers as it took so long to finish the fight. But he won the fight. Imagine if he had lost and said he had won, Jack Man would have challenged him again to prove that Bruce was lying or went after Bruce and beat him up!! That's how it works in the world of men! Especially men who deal with violence! Cheap is not! Jack Man only came up with the story that he had won after Bruce died!

Tommy Carruthers speaks highly of Howard.
Yes he does
I had the honor and privilege to train under Howard...oakland ca...amazing experience........RIP sifu.....
You just trained under him?
I certainly did...in the late 90's

This was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this. A true JKD gem!

@aquiredskill Have u found the documentary?
I totally agree .
Man the interviewer ( at the beginnings of the interview ), asks a lot of vague, clumsy questions...
Is there anyone that is teaching and promoting James Lee lineage or did Mr Williams also teach and have students??

Okay besides being smug, who exactly did he fight?
He didn’t compete so you are asking the wrong questions.
He was one of Bruce's original Oakland students, but he definitely has no lack of love for himself.
He beat Master Wong
@johncarroll772 lol I bet he could have done it easily
