I remember watching this live... Mary Jo and Pam Shriver said it right. Serena Williams was the player you didn't want to see in your draw, in 2000-2002 particularly in the 4th Round, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals if you were a Top Player. You never knew which Serena was going to show up... Was it going to be the Now 23-Time Grand Slam Singles Champion or the erratic Serena Williams where she pushed you to 3 sets leaving gassed out for the next match... This was the last time Serena played Hingis edging her to a 8-6 head to head....

Serena was on fire in 2002. This is the last time Serena and Hingis played. Hingis knew the game was changing after this match as Hingis didn't even play that badly and didn't win a game in the second set

Hingis was already on her way out sadly. If you recall just a few months before this she lost the Australian Open even though she had 4 championship points. Had she won that title, maybe her career would have been revitalized. But the power game was too much for her.

2002 if only Serena wasn't a late withdrawal at the Australian Open that year I no doubt believe she would've won that and she would've won the Grand Slam for 02 and held all the Grand slam titles. She was just unbeatable in 2002 and went on to win the French, Wimbledon and the US Open.

She is 6-7 against Serena but "never stood a chance"??
That´s the best h2h of all the top players of that time I could find. Even Venus` is way worse at 12-19. Not to speak of Henin 6-8, Clijsters 2-7, Davenport 4-10, Capriati 7-10, Mauresmo 2-10. Oh, and let´s not forget her all time great rival, Maria Sharapova 2-20 🤣
