@JaxonCooper-tk3ei its a mod; i was confused too, because in the past i didn't think it was possible to not have to REPLACE other characters. But apparently you can add new slots google the ssbu roster menu, including dlc. Sonic.exe and Mario.exe and in between Sonic and Olimar. In the OFFICIAL game, the only character between them is King Dedede. Somehow they added them separately
Or it could be that this dude went into the files and changed the texture of Mario and Sonic bc they both have the same moves as the original sonic and Mario
