    Came because The Tripping Authority sounds like a rad LSD channel. Stayed because I want to have an informed opinion on my first canoe paddle. Would recommend

    Thanks for a great video. Is there any difference in sizing for solo pack canoes, since you're sitting low in the boat. I'll probably be using a kayak paddle most of the time, but I want to have a canoe paddle too for tight spaces where it's hard to swing a kayak paddle.

    How can I check to see what length my paddle is? is it from tip to tip or just the bar?

    • @TheTrippingAuthority
      @TheTrippingAuthority  4 года назад +1

      To check the overall paddle length you'd want to measure it from the top of the grip to the tip of the blade. But when sizing a paddle it really comes down to your torso length and the length of the paddle shaft. For instance my whitewater paddle (Werner Bandit Carbon) has a total paddle length of 56 inches, whereas my flat-water tripping paddle (Grey Owl Guide Cherry) has a total length of 60 inches. But the paddle shafts of both paddles are more or less the same length; the difference between the two has more to do with length and shape of the blade. So in turn both paddles will fit me well despite being different lengths. (A good example of this is at 5:56 in the video)

      Essentially, if you can hold your paddle above your head with one hand at the throat (just above the blade) and the other at the base of the grip with 90 degree angles in your arms, then that paddle should serve you well no matter the blade shape or length.

      The Tripping Authority well it’s weird because I checked and it’s a 240 I thought it was smaller because I felt it was a little short when I was at the lake over the weekend. It’s for a kayak so it has blades on both ends

      Sizing a kayak paddle is a bit different, often depending on the width of the kayak and the height of the user. If you have a boat over 32" wide than a 240 would be suitable for you, depending on your height.

    Not for OC-1 or OC-6 outrigger paddling

      Agreed, thanks for the input. This video is not for an outrigger canoe. It was made for paddlers looking to choose a paddle for a standard canoe in both tandem and solo settings, whether it be for wilderness canoe tripping, whitewater or for recreation.
