      They don't ALWAYS come apart that easily - there are always a % that end up as small pieces of firewood!

    I don't know what in sam hill is going on! Every time I see videos like this, they always get the pallet apart with ease. Not one dang time have I had a pallet that came apart as easy. I even bought one of those pallet tools and they still don't come apart that easy. I think it's some kind of foolery going on here!

      I have a confession to make: This was the 4th attempt. The previous 3 pallets ended up with a fair proportion of firewood.

      Excellent.
      This is the truth.
      Things are not so simple.

    A better way of breaking down a pallet without hammering the timber and annoying the neighbours. i find using a bearer inbetween the pallet and using a longer Wrecking Bar (Trojan 750mm Wrecking Bar ) seems to be easier.

    Are those heat treated or kiln dried?, makes it a lot harder to disassemble.

    • @TightwadWorkshop
      @TightwadWorkshop  2 года назад

      I only collect Heat Treated and Kiln Dried pallets, but by the time I get them they've usually spent a couple of weeks outside in the rain anyway. These videos only show the pallet disassemblies that worked well, I have a good number of them that end up as very small pieces of firewood! :-)

    Wear protection! Stab-proof shoes! Gloves! Safety goggles and Hearing protection if you work with powertools - remember if you loose one eye, you will regret it the rest of your life and the same goes with stupid, unnecessary injuries!

      I'm disappointed that you only added this comment to 2 out of my 3 "pallet disassembly" videos. You really should add it to this one as well, it's advocating much more dangerous activities:

      Yeah, it's one of the first videos I made where I was still trying to work out camera angles, dialogue and such. Some of my newer stuff is more interesting, have a look and let me know what you think.

    In the uk the pallets require a tad more effort, I think they want them to last a thousand years half a dozen 5inch annulars in each joint you can wiegh in the nails as scrap theres that many. I,m a retired shipwright and I like your no nonsense approach not like the yanks on here with a million quids worth of tools on show. No training they have watched too much you tube.

      Good morning Peter.
      Here in Australia the return/reuse pallets are made from hardwood, painted, and "built to last" like your UK pallets. We also use a unique "Australian Standard" pallet size for some reason:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_standard_pallet
      I agree about the "garage factory" woodworking style that the majority of channels seem to feature. This channel is intended to show that there's another way, and that you don't NECESSARILY need to spend big money to make things in your shed. I should point out that I'm not anti-power-tool, I still use them where it makes sense to do so.
      So what kind of work does a Shipwright do in the UK? Did you work with wooden vessels, or other materials as well?
