- Follow along as I introduce "The Beady Bunch", and unusual family of bears in Katmai National Park. See this group swim across the Brooks River, and play with each other.

They absolutely look like humans in costumes the way they move sometimes!

My mom took me to Katmai National Park in 1983 when I was 23. There were so many bears everywhere! We were there for 3-4 days, and I even got to hike down to the Land of 10,000 Smokes. That trip was the most amazing & exciting experience of my life!!!🥰🥰🥰
you have them circled incorrectly. 909jr was on 910’s right when they swam out in the beginning. 910jr was on the left and lagging behind. 909jr has a longer snout than 910jr and 909jr’s ears are much bigger

You're right but they've already been fishing the lip and with some dominance from 32 chunk..he chased them off today..

Great video- 910jr likes to sit on rocks and then steal fish from her momma (well, they both steal her fish)- but 910jr caught her 1st fish over the weekend, it was great!
Thank you for the wonderful clips of the sweetest family at Katmai! 910 is the best momma and so patient with her niece. Watched her tolerance with 909Jr pirating not one, but 2 salmon from her this morning on the lip!

Here ,as in other incidents ,they seem to like to run when out if the water like a herd of horses.For people new here , # 909 jr was the hit of the season back in 2022.she earned the name Lil Bean because her rump was shaped like a lima bean.Some called her Roxy because shed sit on the shore sorting rocks.
Mama 909 showed her the ropes early and made her keep up..I remember that year..she kept up with mom at the falls and learned to tree herself early..she's smart but her pirating might be too ambitious this year.😅
@@kims.7829 if I remember, 909 had a tough time fishing the 1st month. Some of us commented that she was like a "teen" mom.lil Bean learned good life lessons her coy summer.

910 does seem very vigilant at the moment. Although they're playing a lot too. I guess you're taking this from the bridge and adjacent observation platforms? Could you see anything in particular they were reacting to -- bear, human...?

Why did 909 abandon her cub?
909 emancipated her cub at 2.5 years which is the normal time when 909 went into estrus. 909JR lucked out that her Auntie 910 kept her in the group. He had it reversed with the red circles. 909JR has a narrower face and bigger ears. They are now all huge and a formable bunch. My guess is 909JR and 910JR are emancipated next year and stick together as subadults. They will do well and watch out for each other.

I have not seen or heard of them catching any salmon yet.
