Photo tip: always ask a young person to take your picture! I've found that older people somehow manage to (for example) put you in the picture but not the waterfall in the background. Most people in their twenties know how to take a good picture because most of them are on instagram!
My first time in a hostel I arrived late and immediately joined the hostel pub crawl! Perfect way to meet all the new friends and break down the barriers
As an American I think you would enjoy traveling the national parks solo. The cities aren't places worth traveling alone (or at all in some cases tbh) but I'm planning on road tripping all the national parks solo, and I think that would be more fun alone than with someone else
im currently doing some of the cities alone and I agree with you. I wish I had someone with me to enjoy them with, however I can still appreciate what I am seeing
Developing countries like the Philippines are far from perfect. It's not organized and lacks certain conveniences that First World citizens are accustomed to. However, it's definitely not as dangerous and chaotic as people from Western media paint it to be. As a solo woman backpacker, thank you for being brave enough to show the other side of the spectrum and proving that it's not always what it seems... Safe travels and more power to your channel... 🤗
Have you met backpackers in a wheelchair?? I'm in a wheelchair and have an completely electric handbike (Batec) with offroad wheel. So my casters (the small front wheels) don't come on the road anymore. So that's amazing. But the problem that I have is transport.. I'm from Europe and here I can use the trains. But I realllyy want to go to Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia; Bali and the Philippines for example haha). I have really no idea how on earth ... How I'm going to do this. I haven't traveled in 19 years (am 28). Because of 250 hospitalizations and now I'm in a wheelchair and have many medical supplies (ostomy). But I definitely don't want this to stop me anymore. I want to travel every country since I was 7 .. But I will start with a 19 country goal (for every year that I missed haha). So... Did you met people in a wheelchair? Also without backpack; but check luggage as well. Just a wheelchair user in general will help me so much. There is almost nothing on YT. Transport is the main question. Hostels will not be the biggest problem. I hope you met someone :) Or know someone that met someone haha. Thanks and ty for the great video!!
I agree with you about the countries that you wouldn't travel solo! Loved this little Q& A. I am super glad you are promoting Australia as a great first-time solo travel destination! Most of us love backpackers, just don't hitchhike!
25:25 I can relate so much! I think as a (female) solo traveller it‘s okay to have some countries in mind that are generally considered safe but you personally just don’t feel good to go alone. For me it’s India, although it’s clearly a backpacking country
I've been off work ill and miserable today, but finding your channel has really cheered me up. I often go solo travelling in Europe, but haven't yet found the courage to go further afield, as much as I'd love to! The only thing I struggle with is eating alone - I find I eat dinner early, like 4 or 5pm, as restaurants are pretty much empty and I don't feel quite as awkward.
wow I REALLY needed this! Going on a 6 month solo trip in June as part of my gap year. I've certainly been experiencing some pre-travel anxiety but have to keep reminding myself that it will be the best (& worst) experience.
I’m watching this video for the 3rd time because I’m craving travel. I last travelled in 2020, i went to costa rica on february and got stuck there due to the pandemic, it was the best thing that happened in 2020😍. I ended up spending 3 months and a half there. Now I’m planning a longer trip to south east asia, I want to leave on november and I’m already binging travel videos
Watched this start to finish! I first found your channel searching for advice for solo travel in Australia and now I’ve booked my flight and I’m going! Your vlogs make me much less nervous about it.
Hi backpacking bananas! I’m totally in love with your Philippine diving vlogs! I live here in the Philippines but I live in the city and never thought of going snorkelling/diving, I’m so obsessed! I’ve been practicing in the pool. Love your videos!
My first solo trip is this coming March and I’m soooo excited. I will be going with a tour to Vienna, Budapest and Prague. I live in the midwestern U.S. currently.
Would like to know more about your solo filming process while you're travelling. Would love to see you do a video showing the behind the scenes. How you manage getting interesting shots on your own, how do you convince the people you meet to put up with or even help you with filming your vlogs. 🙂
This is the best video I could ask for! I'm 16 next month and my parents are open to me traveling for a year asking as I can convince them it's safe. You've made my job SO MUCH EASIER! I'm going to go to Ireland (from Wales) for my first solo trip because it's super close! I've never been away from home alone for more than a week so this is an adventure I am so looking forward to 😄💕
Am obviously not meeting as many people through ageism but no matter just did not hardly drink alcohol and kept my wits about me more .nothing bad occurred .. am used to going for it now ... surprisingly a girl in a hostel tried to latch onto me for money but soon got that vibe !! Took a couple of tours in India too but found better solo although saw many places ... loved the theill of making my own way and more contact with locals ..
Your video talking about hostels came up in my recommendations and after that I've been binge-watching your 7th month trip! You've got a great channel and I love your style and your outgoingness and openness to travel and doing random things on your trips!! Totally can't wait for your next videos!!
This video is just what I needed to help plan my first solo trip to Australia in Sept-October! Definitely using your backpacking Australia top tips video too. Thanks Love!
My first time alone was more than a year a go to live in the usa for an internship. I think I started watching you around that time. My first time in a hostel was when my aunt was visiting close by. The second time was in my last period in the USA. I went on a vacation to california I hostel hopped I was doubting a bit you gave me more confidence. Its was a wonderful time not always easy but I am more than happy I did that. I met great people too.
Hi Christianne! I've been following you for lots of years now, you're one of my top 3 favorite youtubers and I just wanted to let you know that you inspired me taking my first solo trip back in December: best decision ever. Thank you for sharing so much useful and enjoyable content! Love from Italy
To add something to alone on the beach i always have one of these siplockbags and put my phone and keys and my money in there and than just put it in a little hole in the sand but the sand over itand than also put my towel over it and by now it always worked😌
I am a loner so when ttavelling i dont want to make friends but i do like conversation.so my tip is benches.look for someone to sit next to then ask a question such as is that a boat out thete where is it going blah blah.or in restaurants have you been here before etc.talking to locals in shops.like i say i am a loner but if you want friends you can take it a step further but the key is is starting with a question.
Thank you so much for this!! Sitting in Honolulu airport right now waiting for a flight to Sydney (country #2 on a 4.5 month solo RTW trip) and it is helpful AND entertaining haha.
I'm leaving for nz in less than a month and at first I was going alone the 5 weeks, but my mom is going to be there as well for less than 3 weeks. I don't think I would be going there if it wasn't for you and showing me how nice it is to actually travel alone and be on your own 😌
You're very inspiring, I actually went solo traveling in Wales after watching your vlogs! I think you grew up so much lately, cause it looks like you're starting to be less afraid about many things, am I correct? Your traveling are getting more off the beaten track and you're thinking about doing things that probably you would not have taken in consideration before.. For example the hitchhiking part, I really appriciate your open possibility of doing it! GIRRRRL You're freaking AMAZING!! An hour of content! PLEASE GET YOUR ASS BACK TO THE UK SOOOOOOON so we can finally meet up!! Sending you loads and loads of loveeeee
you’re the best. really inspiring me to solo travel more. and i may have missed it, but what’s your story/what made you want to solo travel/how do you afford it/what are your career plans? happy you’re traveling so much, there’s nothing better than that in life💫💫 it’s so important
We're starting to travel full time with our toddler, and document it all on our RUclips channel. I'm actually super excited to find likeminded families to connect with throughout our journey! :) Thanks for making this video!!
Great information, thanks so much. You made me laugh how you ended the video with you continuing to talk and talk in the background while the music kicked in- so funny and appropriate for the video!
This is a great video for me :). You are a true inspiration for someone (me) lol who wants to learn about documenting their travels . I started following you a little over a year ago when I was planning a trip to NZ and your videos were the first to come up. You were a great help to me learning and finding places to go explore. Thank you for that! :) Cheeers
I always love your Q & A. Your are the expert in backpacking for sure. And, you are level headed and use common sense in your advice (I do disagree with you regarding hitchhiking though... .) Can't wait to see the rest of the PI vlog.
I go to Australia in Jan 2020 and have watched quite a few of your videos now, thanks for all the advice/inspo as I'm hoping to document stuff along the way. Thanks again, Cal :)
So true about the media! I felt more safe walking alone at night in a quiet street in Sapa than I do in my own hometown in Australia Also, awesome video! so many good tips, can't wait to go solo travelling again :)
You should climb a mountain in the Alps like the ortles or Mt Blanc do not attempt the matterhorn as it is more dangerous than Everest and more people die on it
I've been on several trips within my country (the US) and outside of it (Italy, France, and England, but like 2019 was the first year i traveled to these countries) with my family. I think I'm due for a solo traveling trip next year (hopefully Norway when they open their border's up to US citizens!) once quarantine's up. Thank you for all the advice!
I love your videos and you Blogs so much. Your tips and experiences just make me even more exited going somewhere alone, making new friends, going out my comfort zone and just grow as a person. I really want to travel the world but unfortunately I am 17 years old and my mom does not let me go somewhere alone😭😣. Now I think I just have to wait until next summer or this winter to go somewhere. This makes me kind of sad but I know that I will do solo travelling when I am 18 and nobody can stop me😁😂. Now I told my mom that I want to visit my aunt by bicycle, who lives 80km from here, stay in a hostel the other day and then come back home. She is even so worried about me going out 2-3 days. ☹️
Ah thank you so much for this video ! Ive been debating doing a three month trip to Asia by myself in around 6 months, I'll only be 19 and it's very hard not to listen to everyone telling you how you about how dangerous it is or just saying it's not a good idea (even though most of these people have never been solo travelling!), but this really helped ! Aslo I have a question about south east asia I'm currently in the process of getting my driver's license do you think i should really try to get it before the trip for renting motorcycles etc? 💕🌏
I'm also guessing these people have never actually been to Asia! Because if they have I guarantee you, they wouldn't be advising you against it! It would be cool if you had your driver's license but honestly don't stress about it. There are loads of backpackers who don't ride a scooter at all and are completely fine 😊
Absolutely loved every second of this video!! I'm currently studying abroad and hope to visit nearby places / work on meeting other people and this helped a lot with giving me tips to do so! Thank you so much! (:
Great video! I have arrived here just a couple of weeks ago and have been watching some of your vlogs as I am planning a long trip through southeast Asia for 2022. I am 43 years old and will be solo travelling. Have you met older backpackers during your travels?
Absolutely! Are you going to Colombia anytime soon? I'm currently planning a solo trip to Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena. I want to hit all 3 cities during my trip to Colombia. I'm concerned about having enough spending money though, so I haven't booked it yet.
I would love to go Colombia but no current plans yet! Do lots of research into prices and you should be able to find some answers and make a decision 😊
Photo tip: always ask a young person to take your picture! I've found that older people somehow manage to (for example) put you in the picture but not the waterfall in the background. Most people in their twenties know how to take a good picture because most of them are on instagram!
Haha this is very true! Great tip!
yesss, when i solo travelled in the past, i made sure to seek out young people for this😃
Globelink Travel Insurance or a tripod
This rule doesn't apply to older obvious photography hobbyists.
I have harder time to speak or ask to people my age, Btw I'm 18
My first time in a hostel I arrived late and immediately joined the hostel pub crawl! Perfect way to meet all the new friends and break down the barriers
No better way to make new friends than over a few bevvies stumbling between bars 😅😅
OMG 48 MINUTES You really worked hard on that one haha ! Always loving your content !
I really did! 😅😅 Took me like 3 days to edit haha
Notices that too, lol, I'm on minute 1.
My Travel Project quality content
How old is the lady who makes these videos?
I just turned 18 and leave for my first ever backpacking trip (solo!) in 26 days. So excited!!!
Woooop 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Yaas Isabel 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤩
I’m 18 too and solo traveling now for 4 months already. You’re gonna have a great time ❤️💃🏽
What places are you traveling?
@@kiwimix9763 which places did you travel to?
Isabel L this will be me in a few months when I turn 18... WAITING FOR INDEPENDENCE

32:42 omg exactly what i was thinking, i love pretending to be super cool and extroverted when travelling solo ahha meanwhile this is not normal me

I'm going to ask someone 'is that a boat out there?' next time I'm on a bench, no matter where it is 😅😅 I'm chuckling at that
Its because my eyesight is so bad!!!!in hindsight not the best question.
50 Minutes of backpacking bananas? SCOREEEEE
YEH IT IS 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😅
My plan is to go for a working holiday year to Australia after I graduate in a year and your videos are pretty much my guide.
Yay! 🤩 Haha I do have many vids on that!

Yess Christianne thank you!! I'm 18 and heading off to Europe for a solo interrail trip this June. Your videos have inspired me to travel x
Yaaas Fiona 🙌🏼🙌🏼😍 Hope you have the best time! Weather will be AMAZING in Europe in June 😃
I'm also going on an interrail Europe trip this June for the first time, maybe we can meet up!xx
Hello Meisha I’d love that!! I won’t be at my first destination until June 23rd but we can chat on instagram if you’d like?
You're very inspiring, I actually went solo traveling in Wales after watching your vlogs! I think you grew up so much lately, cause it looks like you're starting to be less afraid about many things, am I correct? You are such a motivation for me for years now! I wish to meet you one day in a dorm room somewhere and go for an adventure! ❤️
That would be fun! 😅😅 My fave way of meeting people haha
Christianne?! I'm supposed to work on my thesis and then you make a 48 minute video!!! Bye bye thesis for now! Thanks for answering my question 😃
😂😂 the thesis can wait! 😜
Fav travel vlogger! You inspired me to go to Milan and Lake Como solo next month!
Best thing I ever did for myself was get a travel tripod and a remote for photos!

It's definitely not easy! Especially at first but everyone starts like that
you’re the best. really inspiring me to solo travel more. and i may have missed it, but what’s your story/what made you want to solo travel/how do you afford it/what are your career plans? happy you’re traveling so much, there’s nothing better than that in life💫💫 it’s so important
Very inspirational! I am setting of for a 10 month solo trip in a few weeks, lots of great advice!
Ahhh so soon!! 😍😍 How exciting!
Hehe literally watched so hard for my question and it was there in the safety category❤️❤️❤️
We're starting to travel full time with our toddler, and document it all on our RUclips channel. I'm actually super excited to find likeminded families to connect with throughout our journey! :) Thanks for making this video!!
That's awesome! I hope when I have children that I can travel with them too 🤩
This is one of the best video I’ve seen on solo traveling!

My pleasure! ❤️ I have a video coming soon about starting a travel vlog as well! 😃 Hopefully in the next month, it will be live
@@BackpackingBananas I will be looking forward to watching it. 💯
Very helpful video! Thank you. Most of the time when travellers on yt answer these kinds of questions they just give a short vague answer.
hey thank you so much for this!! I’m gonna be traveling solo for the first time this summer in the Philippines, so this helped me so much ahah
Your hair is so beautiful here 😻
I always love your Q & A. Your are the expert in backpacking for sure. And, you are level headed and use common sense in your advice (I do disagree with you regarding hitchhiking though... .) Can't wait to see the rest of the PI vlog.
Starting my solo travel in Aug! Thanks so much for the helpful content

Haha thanks Joel 😅
Joel u a cutie poo.

Great video! I have arrived here just a couple of weeks ago and have been watching some of your vlogs as I am planning a long trip through southeast Asia for 2022. I am 43 years old and will be solo travelling. Have you met older backpackers during your travels?
It’s working !!!!!! 😊😊😊😊
YAY! I started uploading it to my Facebook page just in case haha, but I'm so glad it has started working now!
Great comprehensive video.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks 😊❤️
Some really great advice 👍
