  • VIVID Dutch Bloom Combo ~ Acrylic Pour
    This technique features a unique homemade pouring medium that consists of 1 ounce of polycrylic, 3 ounces of thickened floetrol, and a squirts of GAC and liquitex pouring medium. . There is no house paint in the base. This pouring medium is used for the base AND the pour-over colors. The base paint is Monte Mart white.
    I get better results by thickening up the PM a bit. You don't have to do this, but you will get structurally better cells. The cells/lacing are not as fragile by doing this. I used my thickened floetrol, which is easily achieved by leaving it out in a flat tupperware container for a few days. I stir it at least once a day. And then when it has thickened enough to my liking, I strain it. The white base and the pour-over colors are made from this PM.
    The base, unlike the typical house paint in blooms, offers a more refined foundation, allowing for intricate details and a softer finish. The inclusion of a cell activator, akin to the bloom technique, introduces a world of possibilities for creating delicate cells.
    The cells in this technique possess a unique fragility, resulting in softer edges and less defined structures compared to traditional blooms. This characteristic imparts a dreamlike quality to the final piece, especially when a white cell activator is employed. The painting dries beautifully, and I prefer this PM over my bloom PM. You will see a transparency that you cannot get with a traditional bloom. You can see the texture of the canvas through the paint when it is dry.
    I have used both Minwax polycrylic and water based Varathane polyurethane, and they both work equally well.
    ****Cell Activator - Amsterdam black and water. I add the ink for a richer color, but it is not necessary.* I mix by adding the amsterdam to a cup. I then add approx 2 droppers full of black ink. I have used the Artist's Loft watercolor ink with good results. And then I add the water to consistency.

    Question, what is your. Mixing ratio with your colors? Is it 2 to 1 ?
    Two parts pm to 1 part color.
    I’ve pour out floetrol in an open container to “cure” another day or two it should be good. Can’t wait to try your pouring method. Your art is just so beautiful. Thanks!!

      Hi Tracy! thank you for your kind comment! I am excited that you are trying it. As far as the ratio, I haven't been measuring. I add the PM to the cup and then add the paint until the saturation looks good. It's probably more like 1:4 or 1:3 PM to paint.

      @@WhiteDogGalleryByAmyJohnson thank you for your quick response!! Wow!! Do you add any water to your colors? I guess what I’m asking is what is the consistency? Thick or thinner? I have only been doing this for about a year, and I appreciate so much for any tips on how to get the results you have achieved.

      @@tracyjenkins975 I don’t usually add water. Especially if I am using liquid paints. But if you would use a heavy body paint, you might need to add some water so it matches the others. I would describe the consistency as leaving a small mound. It’s thinner than a bloom but probably thicker then a Dutch pour.

    What is GAC ?

    • @WhiteDogGalleryByAmyJohnson
      @WhiteDogGalleryByAmyJohnson  3 месяца назад

      It’s a pouring medium by Golden Brand. Its biggest claim to fame is that it prevents cracking. But honestly, I’m not sure this PM needs the GAC or the Liquitex PM. The next time I mix, I am going to leave out both of them. Would be more cost effective.

    Which Amsterdam black? They have 2 or 3. And how much do you use for CA if you are using the regular Amsterdam Oxide Black in the tube?
