On just a few XTC tracks, I love how Andy Partridge's Wiltshire accent becomes prominent....'as in : All the birds call your name as they land on my kitchen roof'.....!
They had hit records, appeared on mainstream TV, had regular radio airplay. major record company backing and a career of about twenty five years. I'd say they did well, about right for the quality of what they produced.
My trifecta, although of an entirely different genre, was Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Goose Creek Symphony, and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Magical doesn't begin to describe it.
Just saw EXTC tonight with Terry Chambers drumming at Daryl’s House in Pawling- great show. They performed this song. Awesome seeing XTC songs live and the band was spot on. Terry was very kind and chatted with us for a while after the show- class act.
A previous contributor did provide lyrics, although they did contain a few errors: I'm stupidly happy Everything's fine I'm stupidly happy My heart pumping wine I'm stupidly happy With idiot grin I'm stupidly happy It's surely a sin All the birds of the air call your name As they land on my kitchen roof All the fish in the lake do the same Should you need extra proof I'm stupidly happy My vision is skewed I'm stupidly happy I'm coming unscrewed [And if the Devil walks up Dressed in any disguise I'd take him by the collars Look him in the eyes] I'm stupidly happy Now you're my defence I'm stupidly happy This world's making sense I'm stupidly happy I roll like a train I'm stupidly happy With you in my brain All the lights of the cars in the town Form the strings of a big guitar I'm a giant to play you a tune For wherever you are I'm stupidly happy Like the words to that song I'm stupidly happy No nothing's not wrong [And should the Devil drive up With his business card out I'd tear it to confetti With a grin and shout] Stupidly happy All of the time I'm stupidly happy Now you're mine
Isn't that a great documentary. I always liked XTC, but watching that doc rekindled my interest in their music. Been listening to Skylarking for the past month. Next up....Nonesuch. Such a wealth of amazing music.
(yet another) of my favourite XTC numbers - the first few bars (where the guitar leads you into what you think is the beat and then the drums kick in) always gets me out of the doldrums. Hats off to Andy, Colin and Dave but especially to Terry (Chambers).
The way the group builds it up is ”simple” put genuis. The handclaps and the little guitar marker at off beat between 3 and 4 makes the song roll like a freakin train...
Depression can be incurable, but this is almost guaranteed to work if looped for a while. I need to hear the bass via good headphones straight from a hard copy. But it's all excellent! I'm surprised this wasn't a single. Maybe it was?
Andy Partridge hates Spotify because they pay stupidly low royalty rates. Since the Apple Venus albums were released independently, Andy has the rights to do what he wants with them. All their other stuff is owned by their old label, Virgin Records, so Andy has no control over what they do with it.

I'd choose XTC over any other band/musician if I could only listen to one for eternity

....at 3mins in the chord goes higher.....genius.
One day, when I finally find her, this will be our wedding song.
I love this comment
Yeah, it’s a good call.
Yeah man
You too???? Nice one
Good luck son.
This is a favourite of mine so just play it to her loud and if she don't like it...
...find another.
It’s been compared to Third Eye Blind’s “Never Let Go” which was released a year earlier. I admire this song a whole lot more.
The greatest single that never was.........Awesome song.
This song is built!
So true!
XTC has created the most diverse songs of any rock / pop group in my ( ok I'm 58 ) generation ... I can't think of one I really don't like
For these people the word UNDERRATED was invented...
They had hit records, appeared on mainstream TV, had regular radio airplay. major record company backing and a career of about twenty five years. I'd say they did well, about right for the quality of what they produced.
Herald Events and Films ok
@@heraldeventsandfilms5970 I've seen few comments on youtube more wrong than this
@@hayden6700 It is a cliché to say XTC were 'underrated'. They were very successful, as I said and their influence continues.
The fact that they stopped performing live from the mid 80s, made them not reach their full commercial potential.
A song built around a simple riff, but really catchy, brilliant.
These guys were so good. Saw them in concert back in the early 80's with Oingo Boingo and the Police. It was great!
Best concert ever - UC Santa Barbara Events Center - 2nd row.
Wow. Incredible. My envy knows no bounds. 🙂
That would’ve been off the charts great!
Holy cats! One of the best lineups ever ya gotta think.

I'm stupidly happy
Everything's fine
I'm stupidly happy
My heart pumping wine
I'm stupidly happy
With idiot grin
I'm stupidly happy
It's surely a sin
All the birds of the air call your name
As they land on my kitchen roof
All the fish in the lake do the same
Should you need extra proof
I'm stupidly happy
My vision is skewed
I'm stupidly happy
I'm coming unscrewed
[And if the Devil walks up
Dressed in any disguise
I'd take him by the collars
Look him in the eyes]
I'm stupidly happy
Now you're my defence
I'm stupidly happy
This world's making sense
I'm stupidly happy
I roll like a train
I'm stupidly happy
With you in my brain
All the lights of the cars in the town
Form the strings of a big guitar
I'm a giant to play you a tune
For wherever you are
I'm stupidly happy
Like the words to that song
I'm stupidly happy
No nothing's not wrong
[And should the Devil drive up
With his business card out
I'd tear it to confetti
With a grin and shout]
Stupidly happy
All of the time
I'm stupidly happy
Now you're mine
I love xtc fans! So insightful, yet seeking outward:)
Brilliant XTC POP as it should be!Musicians with Imaginación and so much skill vocally, lyrically and musically!!!💚
I fucking love this song!
Simply flipping marvellous. As is much of their oeuvre!!!!!!
This song should have been covered by a dozen artists by now. Along with the song "Don't wanna be here"
Happy Birthday, Michelle.
Just saw the documentary, "This is Pop". Only gets more amazing.

Dave and Terry were not in the band for this one (alas . . .)
yeah, this is Prairie Prince on drums
After the Beatles, the greatest group ever.
Agree
No doubt about it ... the two BEST bands that Great Britain gave the world!
Exactly what I have always said!
I agree, they were the Eighties Beatles.
I'd put them up there before the Beatles, much as I love the Beatles.
Absolutely brilliant !!! Great rendition of a fantastic song; thanks a bunch :-) Beautifully re-mastered.
My bf played this song to me I love it had never heard it before
The way the group builds it up is ”simple” put genuis. The handclaps and the little guitar marker at off beat between 3 and 4 makes the song roll like a freakin train...
It's genius-simple, the way simple that only highly proficient composer can work
This is a one chord song, brilliantly so.
Love this track forevermore
Mr. Stiopid here.
Happy.
Anddddd...this is how I feel at this exact moment in time. Thanks for describing my mood to the T, Andy.
awesome sound cheers
Thanks Peter ;)

Epic! The band The Beatles could have turned into. I love this band!
ELO is the 70's Beatles, XTC is the 80's Beatles, and Blur is the 90's Beatles
@@Danimal1577Bur were the 90s XTC . They even admitted XTC were they're fave band as youngsters ! House in The Country, Parklife, are so XTC.
wish i could download this in ultra high quality, sounds amazing
loveeee XTC
Happy birthday Andy!

Prairie Prince on drums :)
Da Tubes! Another similar, very creative group.
One of the hardest working drummers in the business.

Why can’t I find this track on I tunes?
Don't know!
It’s not on there or Spotify
Anyone from the Skins?
You remastered an album by remastering already mastered audio files instead of using original mixes? What? Why?
To make you question its existence?
