Very informative video! I was born & raised in Alberta. I moved to Arizona in 1993 at age 40. I mailed the application for my OAS as well as the direct deposit form on 11/16/2023, but as of 2/21/2024 I haven't heard anything back from them. How long does it typically take to get it setup & receive my first check? I have tried to set up a My Services Canada account, but it's very difficult because I've been in the USA for so long, that I don't have the proper paperwork they require. I look forward to hearing from you Chris. Thanks for your time. Keith
Hi Keith, I bet you don't miss the cold Alberta winters? I think you made a good choice with your move! Applying online is much faster but I can see how you may have had some issues with that. Typically a paper application will take about 120 days to process so you shouldn't be too far off at this point. Do you have confirmation that they have definitely received your paper application? With the government you never what they do with things sometimes so I would double check that if you haven't already done so. Hope that helps and if you have any other questions, feel free to fire them off. Cheers, Chris
Good morning Chris, thanks for the quick reply! You're right about the winters, they were the biggest reason for our move! (right now it's 67°C @ 8:45am in February) A couple of things, when I did my research, I was led to believe that I HAD to snail-mail my application when I was living out of the country. I'd still like to find out if there is a way of getting a My Services Account for the future. I have been trying to look up whether they received it or not. Is there a website that I can check to find out the status? I really appreciate your help. Thanks, Keith
Hi Keith, You certainly can't complain about 67 degrees on a February morning. I am sitting looking at snow on the ground so not envious at all! Then again this Scotsman did choose to live here so I can't really complain! Without having the online login you wouldn't be able to see it online. Your best bet is to give them a ring on 1-800-277-9914 between 8.30am - 4.30pm ET... The average wait time over the past week has been 5 minutes so hopefully you won't get stuck waiting on someone for ages. Here is a link to all the contact details, you can also fill out a form and have them contact you if that is easier. www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/corporate/contact/cpp.html Hope that helps. Cheers, Chris

Thanks for the info! Great Video. Two question's, On OAS can you tell them when you get money each month. Because Both OAS and CPP is on the same date!! Love to get OAS, say second week of each month, Plus i get 20% taken out of CPP for my the Tax's can you do the same with OAS? Not sure, that's a video on it own lol! Get tax's taken out and placed in a High Interest account, ready for the Tax Man or get it taken out each Money! Hard one too, thanks for your time Dave From Labrador Canada.
Hi Dave, unfortunately, you can't pick the date you receive OAS, it is fixed for everyone. I assume it would be logistically difficult for them to manage it otherwise. Here is a link to the dates: www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/calendar.html If you sign into your My Service Canada account you can elect to have the taxes taken off like you do with your CPP. I would be more inclined though to put the funds aside in a high-interest savings account like you mentioned and only pay the tax man when you have to. With interest rates where they are, you can actually earn a half-decent amount in interest. The money is better in your pocket instead of gifting the CRA an interest-free loan! Hope that helps, if you have any other questions, just let me know. I have been to Newfoundland but I haven't managed to get out to Labrador yet but I am sure it is beautiful! - Chris
Hi Chris, Am I eligible for CPP as a spouse as my husband passed away before the age of 60. He worked and contributed to the CPP since 2007 till Feb 2023.
Hi @rubina4411 I am sorry to hear about your husband, it must have been a challenging year for you. The short answer to your question is yes you will be eligible to a portion of your husband's CPP. How much you will receive depends on your husband's contribution to CPP and if you have contributed to the plan? I recently put together this video on CPP survivor benefits that you may find useful. ruclips.net/video/3_THX0fWDrc/видео.html Like anything government related, there are a few moving parts and they don't make it simple so if you want to run any questions by me, feel free to reach out to me by email chris.jardine@bellvest.ca and I will be able to point you in the right direction.

Good video. Don’t know why they are complaining about the delivery. Information was clear and to the point 👍
Thanks Trudy, appreciate the kind words.
This is great. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it @BigNormchamp .... are you getting ready to apply?

Music sucks!! 😡
Please redo without the dumb maddening music. Excellent topic! ✅
The people have spoken. The music is being binned for all future videos!
Kill the background music! It’s really distracting and annoying.
