A big factor that caused the closure of trade with other countries is China's antagonistic foreign policy that involves the South China, specifically, the ridiculous territorial claims by China with their 9 dash liline. This resulted in even moderate countries ended up rethinking their economic and political relationship with China. Thus now, China is considered the big bad bully by most democratic countries that China had been heavily trading with.
Xi really blew it when he started pursuing the 9 dash line claim, because, most countries now can use it as leverage against him and the CCP in future economic and political negotiations, especially with countries negatively affected by the 9 dash line.
In a few years it'll be the 4,000 dash line, a few years after that they'll be famine throughout China. 😮

For a country so dependent on imported materials and energy paid for by selling manufactured goods to threaten war on its biggest customers is madness. And a similar madness is the assumption that China is entitled to steal technology, and that it can acquire high end chips and use them militarily against the very countries whose constant investment and freedom of inquiry has developed them. We do not need to worry about China developing chip technology as good as our own, let alone better. They are too corrupt, so all they can do is copy and attempt to steal. For decades, China relied and basked in "Made in China" exports which were cheap and made with low labor cost. They neglected innovation, the bottomline of which is research and development. Instead of making their own brand, they focused on stealing copyright and IP theft. Instead of investing in high-technology, they settled with reverse-engineering and the like. Now their short-sightedness is showing. That lady should give this lecture to those "patriotic" Chinese who thinks that dogma can feed people.

The U.S. along with its allies have urged China to open up its market, level the playing field in trade and investment, be more transparent in business and allowing outside observers, curb IP theft, enforce IP protection, eliminate forced IP transfers, stop forced slave labor, stop shipping illegal opiates and precursor substances, so on. China is not willing to accept none of that. The CCP is not willing to give in an inch as it would loosen their total control as well as given up on its ongoing gains. The West is also becoming more aware of China's unrestricted warfare and infiltration. China is no longer competive in labor along with its waning demograghic dividend and the enormous debt incured. Foreign businesses and investments are moving elsewhere. Xi Jin Ping knew China's best days are behind years ago, but refused any concessions and turning more inward. The economic decline would be less severe if the conditions were more favorable for the trading nations and their businesses and investors.

Never forget self interest. BRI was always about mutual deception. The CCP pretended it was not just about extending their interests, wealth and power and the poor countries pretended they would pay back the loans instead of treating the BRI as free money. CCP knew the loans would mostly not be paid back and that they would claim assets in lieu of repayment and increase their economic control on loan default. The winning country was always going to be the side whose unstated objective was closest to be achieved in the end. The true winners were the corrupt rulers and officials in the poor country who won either way. This was why the whole BRI was so popular and widely accepted.

Once the factory would be set in Vietnam/India and mexico, it would stay there only if the situation stays the same. Low wages, low operation cost, stable political situation. If not it would go somewhere else and if there is no point of having a factory far away to export to product, its obvious that they would save the transportation cost and made everything in north america/europe/japan/korea since this is the stable consumer base.
One thing I didn’t hear mentioned was the individual people of the US. Many, many of us US citizens are doing our best to avoid products made in China. Many of us try to find other options that are made elsewhere as much as possible. We hold the CCP responsible for the pandemic, as well as have very hard feelings toward the CCP, for the threats to the US, the spy balloons, the turmoil in the South China Sea, and the support they are giving Russia. The CCP thinks they can take and do whatever they want, and the US citizens don’t feel our government is doing enough about it. Therefore we each do what little we can to reduce our own contribution to the finances of the CCP. As individuals, we don’t have an effect, but when a great percentage of us follow the same plan, the effect grows immensely. Our companies are not going to order merchandise that isn’t selling.

I have also consulted with companies that outsourced either components or whole products to China. When I am brought in it is because they have a problem with the Chinese production. Some of the smaller ones went out of business. One even offered to sell me the company, he was so desperate.

At one time the label "Made in Japan" was a synonym for "cheap or low tech." The Japanese fixed that problem over many years and became a powerhouse of manufacturing and processing. Japan developed its own high quality, cost effective, business and manufacturing culture and the world beat a path to its markets. Outside investors in China have also invested a lot in market research, IR&D, etc. They really do not like learning that their contract manufacturers have stolen that intellectual property (IP) with the aid of the Chinese government and courts, and used it to subsidize goods that compete with their own products, from golf clubs to microchips. To top that off, the CCP has targeted universities and companies outside of its borders for technologies useful for military purposes. Eventually, the risks to China's customers was not worth access to a cheap supply chain.

We have Chinese stores in America. They are running out of products. This does not just hurt you you know. We are in American getting hurt by this. Makes me want to leave America. Many cities in guangdong were vibrant before covid 19. Cities like guangzhou, shenzhen, foshan, jiangmen, and many other cities thrived from exporting to the rest of the world. Their current bitter leader spoiled all that.

July 2023 is the first month that US import from Mexico surpass china. Import from both country are around 15% but china is downward from 20% and Mexico is rise from 10%. it seem that factory are relocate to Mexico and the trend is not stopping and Mexico will rise to 20% when China will down to less than 10%.
Business is a living, constant changing organism. It develops in the right place and will continue to develop in the place that suits best at that moment. So it will move. nationally and internationally. In my country we had a large textile industry, leather factories, shipbuilding and cigar factories. There is almost nothing left of it, but our industry still has a major shortage of personnel. Now we have a high-tech manufacturing and development industry. It will always be like this, and China will continue to develop and change. I've been there a few times and I think it's a beautiful country with very friendly people. I love that country.
its not because of military only though... mainly some of the big players moved out because of what happened during the recent events as well... where they killed off 90% of production and exports in china all of a sudden.... the big players immediately tried to find other countries to diversify their production plants locations for the coming years in case this happens again.... the military and the US's government public stance only accelerated the eventuality of this happening much faster to the point that it all happened and ended in 3 years instead of slowly moving production out of china in 5-10 years time..... and instead of reducing the prominence of using china's production capacity in that time frame of 5-10 years, now all of them have pulled out of using china's production capacity within these 3 years instead...
