I do not have 160 capabilities at the moment. I am excited to report that the two books you talked about a couple videos ago should be in my library next week. I'm looking forward to them arriving.
Stan, When I tell people that chasing DX on 160 is my passion they look at me funny. Last winter was one of the best 160 seasons I can remember going back over 40 years. Managed to work D68CCC, Comoros Is., VP8PJ, South Orkney Is., HL5IVL, S. Korea, 9J2LA, Zambia and a host of others on 160 CW with a very modest 500 watt station. Solar minimum can be a good thing. The band is alive and well and I cant wait for this winter. Good DX my friend. 73, N9MB
My new screwdriver antenna covers 160m, and I was able to make some contacts on 160M a few weeks ago from a park in Michigan. 100w and a mobile antenna got me 14 callers in a half hour or so of operating. I'm far from an expert, but it worked for me! 73 de w8tam
stan, i have 300` of #12 2 dog bone insulators and 1 center connector (direct wire) not pl259. what kind of 160 meter can i make? oh and i have 25` of height. and lots of yard space. i have rg8x coax 50` no ladder line.
Stan, Of recent, the high noise level has rendered 160 useless to me. Most of this from lightning (night-time is awful) or local powerline noise. From the way I understand it, Lower A and K index is better where higher solar flux numbers are better 160 affected less than other bands but likes low flux and A/K geomagnetic/magnetosphere field. Again, a moot point if lightning storms are numerous. People just give up on it. Listening to all that static just downright painful. It would surely drive me crazy if I weren't already there. 73' de K4WRF
