4:45 Three Different Roles Within Vulnerability Management:
- Vulnerability Scanner Operator (semi tech)
Run scans and make sure it runs successfully
- Security Analyst - review the vulnerabilities and provide recommendations
- Compliance Analyst- least tech of them all. Make sure scans were ran on time and make sure vulnerabilities were addressed within the company’s policy (completed within certain days)
great notes, I came back to the video to re-watch and take my own notes.
@LUNGELO PHINDA Sithole FREE! I am currently doing Compliance Analyst training. I am a note-taker so it takes me a while to finish. There will be some quizzes you have to take during the training and you have to make a 75% to pass, but they are not hard if you take notes.

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. I think it is a bit of a misconception that compliance/risk analysis doesn’t require technical skills. You may not be managing systems but you must understand the technical aspects of the enterprise. You are likely going to have to conduct internal audits - almost to Pentesting level. You need to understand what is happening against prescriptive standards like ISO 27002 or PCI/DSS.

The main reason for the vulnerability scanner phase in Penetration Testing or Red Teaming is to know the target weaknesses in the system and address these weaknesses ASAP. And the target is usually your client. However, suppose you use only the basic tools with untrained staff who don't understand the computer and Network architecture and the basics of cyber security operations. You will lose any future contract with the client, and you are putting other people's data at risk of cyber attacks.
Yesss! I totally agree with your comment. I am a security analyst and vulnerability and compliance analyst are mostly managerial roles or someone who has lots of experience. This guy has everyone fooled.
So then what should we do as people trying to get into this field?

As soon as he said "No technical skills required," I immediately thought of the Equifax breach when a person with a Masters in music was made the Chief Security Officer.
Anyone who takes this advice and thinks they'll be put in charge of vulnerability scanning by simply having a certification that, according to this video, only takes a week or even 24 hours, and no technical skills, is absolutely delusional. 11 out of 10 times they'll be stuck in the application phase, companies will always go for someone with a technical background and experience.
As a matter of fact, it's been nine months since this video was posted. How many people should've gotten their certifications and hired by now, the vulnerability management market must be flooded with candidates at this point.

I am in a technology audit department at a large bank. I started to laugh once you got to the third role and emphasized how non-technical compliance/risk/audit roles are (laughs)! It is true in comparison to any engineering oriented role, but just so folks are aware, you still have to be somewhat technical (at least understanding conceptually, how computers, networks, interfaces etc. work), have a formal education in some related field of study (information management systems, accounting, etc.) and work your way up from junior to at least senior or manager level before you can command a 6 figure salary (in most cases.. on the other hand, if you work for a cash rich tech firm in a major city in the US, you might be making close to 6 figures with an entry level job, but obviously these roles are competitive and typically targetted towards young professionals fresh out of university). Just some perspective from someone in this field. BUT I have audited Qualys before and had no idea they offered free certifications! I am definitely going to do that. Thanks for the tip @Boyd!
Hi! Can I message you for a referral if you don't mind? I'm currently exploring new opportunities :)
Cyber Security Engineer and analyst speaking with 6+ years of SOC experience, 14 years IT experience. Speaking for myself and others in my field it's quite common for non-college graduates to command 6 figure salaries. Degrees help but certifications and experience usually determine your salary. @@ThomasIzen interesting, do you live in the U.S.? I’m a decade into my career, have worked for Big 4 firms, in house tech risk management for tech firms and IA at banks-mostly in the US but a bit in Europe. I’ve never met someone doing this work, that I know of, without a college degree. Certifications are certainly critical but not cheap and I’d imagine not easy to pass without also some work experience but who knows, I’m sure people have founds ways. This is a great opportunity for entry into the field and a gold nugget. I appreciate the opportunity to learn more with my subscriptions and more of your instruction in this field. Thank you Boyd!!!
I did a cybersecurity course last year, but I can't remember more of it.
Thank you for helping me to find how I can refresh my knowledge 🙏
Same here lol. I don't remember much. Hopefully we can get better with all these info
I m just joining the IT industry now, doing my first basic certification, your content is a real eye opener, makes look simple and straightforward. Thanks for the information
This is right on time! I just earned my Security+ a few days ago and I was told to go for a help desk job. Thank you for the great information!
How did you study for it?
Hi I’m Angelina. I’m completely new to the entire cybersecurity field. I am very interested in computers and technology. I’ve been looking into this field a lot recently. Thank you for this video. It was very informative :)
Thank you Mr. Clewis! Stay blessed 🙏
Appreciate all the information provided in such a simple way. Really grateful! I hope all of this is still valid, going to start this training this week
Loved this information. I've been working in IT for awhile and have been thinking of how to move over to Cyber. You have just giving me the information I needed.
Newborn at home looking for something remote.. your channel made a way for me.. for that I am truly grateful may Yah pour his blessings upon u and ur family 🙏🏾
Just saw the video to the end....I will do the training u recommended. You're the man!!! Thanks!
😢😢 Man you change my life and I got my cybersecurity certification from the University of Phoenix last year in December. This is the real deal. 🎉
Did you get a degree, or is a industry specific certification?
Thank you!!! You did an amazing job with breaking everything down… I have no experience and found this super helpful!
woman in tech are the best
By far … one of the best videos I have seen for people like myself just curious and need clarity..
Let's grow! Comment below after you become a Certified QualysGuard Specialist!
Hi Boyd, I pass the Qualys VMDR Exam 2.0. I failed it 3 times and passed the 4th time..
@@samueloyeniran6297 way to persevere!
@@BoydClewis Thanks, bro. Starting the VM course.
@@samueloyeniran6297 Please, to tell about it. I am interested.
@@akinoye What would you like to know please.
Thank you so much. I'm brand new into Cyber Security and I've been very skeptical about how to get started. I've seen your videos for years and I truly believe this one has changed the game. I appreciate you
Thank you for sharing, I am working on transitioning from accounting to cybersecurity, have a CISA 2019 book, lots of reading required, but this presentation was a short cut to me👍🏾
I'm grateful to be able to find a video that i could follow. It's been a long process after being medically separated from USMC. As a veteran i can not give up on my vow to protect my country. In the cyber security i do not need to pass a physical evaluation. I have taken many evaluations of the career scope tests and at the end protector is in my blood. Being apart of the Cybersecurity world will definitely put me in the right direction. This video help me realize Cybersecurity world has many inderlining positions that are available. I'll continue my vow as i continue the process of a career in Cybersecurity.
As a vet, let me give you some advice, been in IT 36 years, this is a scam.
Thank you Boyd. 😊 God is literally rolling out the red carpet and answering my very specific prayer.
Let at God! 🙌🏾
I was going to say the same, Praise the Lord and thank you thank you for this

Hi I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦 I want to do cyber Security, I have no background of IT. Thank you for giving me hope.
I was familiar with the compliance officer and security analyst’s overall role (not the details) but did not know about the vulnerability scanner role. This is useful info. I’m going to get started with the Qualysguard.
Thank you!!
how's things going
Great job on giving us this free gem I’m looking forward from transferring jobs as a manger at McDonald’s to a landing a job in cybersecurity
Excellent information. I used to run a qualys scanner about 10 years ago. I loved that product. I rarely ever endorse security platforms but Qualsys was far ahead of the other scanners out there back then. So if you can get a cert for it I am going to do the training to get a cert especially if it's free and I wish other product manufactures would do the same.
I knew nothing of these roles! I’m starting the training on Friday for Qualys
Always great content! I'm really becoming a fan of your work on this channel. I'm serious about making my transition into cybersecurity and your channel is the legit. I'll start the qualys course this week as I finish the Google Fundamentals of IT course ( I know it may not help much in the job search but I wanted a good foundation to work from). Massive gratitude and keep up the good work. You're really helping to change lives!
hey Dexter, how is the Qualys training going for you?
I appreciate the kind words.
I don’t know if it’s going over my head but when signing up for Qualys training do you put the company you want to work for name or your own company name? I currently don’t work in IT.
I was aware of these positions in that those jobs have to be done, but there was one person who essentially did all those things when I was working in IT years ago.
Thank you for making this video. I am trying to transition out of education and worked in IT back in the 90s, so I thank you for your positive attitude and words of encouragement.
I'm trying to transition out of education aswell, how is it working out for you so far? I am yet to start anything so I'm going through videos to get an idea of how I can transition
Bro thank youuuuuu im 35 when i was 20 i was good with tech i took a different route after wife, kids and life. I need a steady income and remote. I think this training came in the right time i did quit my job, i will find a career in the cyber security soon.
Man, I'm stuck doing courses everywhere, literary. But am gonna give this one a shot!
As a self taught upstart with no certs, this is refreshing to hear.
