This song was done after they were announced the winners. When a man loves a woman is the song that has been requested by Home Fries. Chris and Adam started the group in 2000 in Minnesota. They started with other guys, then found Tim on line who is from Texas, they then found Rob in Minnesota he was a bar tender but was singing in a local a capella group. Austin was found on a cruise ship that Home Free sang on as a featured group, Austin is from Georgia, Then Chance came from another a capella group where he sang bass in May of 2016 to replace Chris when Chris decided to go Solo, Chance is from Alabama but now is in LA.this show also showed the group that they were capable of doing much more. Enjoy this ride and thanks for taking us with you
@@jillsanders6216 OK my mistake in being specific about when it was put into place on the show. The winners were announced before this song was played 🙄
@@Cat-fi4ie Sorry, no. The performances with the judges came first. The announcement of the winner was at the very end of the show. I watched the entire season in 2013 each week as it aired. It’s how I became obsessed with Home Free.
Austin's sister, in the acid manner used by younger sisters, commented that if you wanted to know what he looked like at age 12, you could just watch the Sing Off. She wasn't far wrong.
Love seeing these Sing Off shows as I never saw any of them live. What stands out to me is not only how young the guys look but the humility & support they give each other. No divas in this group. And Adam Rupp's talent already was head & shoulders above a lot of the other beatboxers at that time. Hard to believe he is even better now. It is also fun if you go back & listen to the judges comments. They loved these guys from the start.
I saw this when it originally aired in 2013. I remember watching all the seasons but don't remember anything about any of it but Home Free. I remember saying to myself if these guys don't win I'm never watching this show again. I think it only aired one more season. They had something special from the first note they sang. It happens so rarely that so much talent lands on one group. They are phenomenal and have grown so much, this exposure was so well deserved.
Yes, there were 5 seasons total over 6 years. Nota won Season 1, Committed won Season 2, Pentatonx won Season 3, then there was an off season. Home Free won Season 4, and Season was a disappointment to me as the judges picked the winner instead of everyone in the country getting to vote.
@@jimodell99 Pentatonix won 2011. Home Free and VoicePlay were in December 3013. VoicePlay made it about halfway before dropping out. Street Corner Symphony out of Nashville went to 2nd place in 2010. Their bass singer was Adam Chance.
Loved your reactions. HOWEVER, go watch the version of this play list WITH the Judges Comments. You also get the little pre stories and skits on how and why they chose the song, and how they put them together, before each performance....and hear what the judges said, and funny little clips after each performance. It is worth the watch just on your own. The little pre-story before Pretty Woman is so funny....The Sheriff with a Voice of Gold.....and the one before Colder Weather where the boys go to a barber shop....and Rob's beard scare!
There’s another version of this collection of videos on the ‘inter webs’ somewhere that INCLUDES a pre-performance package.for each episode, the judges comments and a ‘tag-like ending. There’s LOTS of info in those additional segments about their history and beginnings of the group that you’ve been yearning for. The show isn’t on the air any more sadly. They DO choose the songs each week BUT there’s typically a ‘challenge’ -- like “Pretty Woman” was a challenge to do a movie tune. The judges visit their rehearsals and provide tips. I think this was when they got down to three groups and each judges performed with one of the top three….The challenge for that week.
During the portion of the show when two groups were competing against/with each other, one group was eliminated. The judges were so impressed with Home Free and the Filharmonic that both groups were advanced to the next round. They really did a great job. I think everyone watching knew Home Free won the show after Ring of Fire though.
If you watch the competition week by week, you will hear the various genres announced each week and how each song was chosen by the group. One week the judges choose the song for them and the final week, each judge sang with a finalist. It's worth watching the weekly competition (maybe by yourself) to understand the group better. The early years of the band he members changed a bit until Rob joined in 2008, Tim 2010 and Austin joined a few months before the Sing Off in 2012. Chance joined 2016.
In The sing off between them and Philharmonic was awesome. Love the homage to Caddyshack and the gopher, Toooo funny, and how they performed in a way that complimented each other and not against each other. Such awesome sportsmanship, and so much fun!!
Adam Chance was in another group that was on the Sing-Off as well. Although the Sing -Off didn't last for very long, it introduced the world to the reigning trifecta of acapella. Home Free (the country group), Voice Play (the theatrical group), and Pentatonix (the new face of acapella). I'm a Home Fry to the bones, and I love me some Tim Foust, but the basses in these other groups are also amazing. Geoff Castellucci and Avi Kaplan both collaborate with Tim.
Really like your summary of the 3 groups...I think that is why there are many fans who love them all, or tend to favor one over the other based on their music tastes. I enjoy them all...HF are my hearth and home, but I agree about the bass singers...those 3 are gold.
Based on how much you’re liking Home Free (my personal favorites), I think you’d also enjoy VoicePlay, another a capella group. Many of their songs are theatrical vocal performances. One that displays a bit of theatrics but OUTSTANDING vocal work is “Hoist the Colours,” from Pirates of the Caribbean. If you like that, have a go at some of their other stuff (Disney medleys, and “The Oogie Boogie Song” from Nightmare before Christmas). Their bass, Geoff Castellucci, is every bit as good as Tim. He also has a bunch of solo work (well, Geoff singing in harmony with himself). It’s all GOLD!
I second Hoist the Colours, awesome video. Would also definitely recommend 'My Mother Told Me' and 'Oogie Boogie Song'. Voiceplay has so many good ones.
Yes, the other battles were really the 2 groups more aggressively trying to out do the other, like in the movie Pitch Perfect. The judges commented on how fun their battle was! All the judges were famous professional singers, they each sang with one of the 3 final groups. They were so much more polished and professional sounding then the others. It was obvious from the way they tightly blended their voices that they were in control of and knew their voices. They have all been professionally trained, went to college and most have degrees in music as well as play several instruments. They are amazing……it is When a man loves a woman we keep asking for. No other version of Pretty Woman. Thanks so much!! 🤗❤️
Surprisingly they had auditioned for the show three years in a row and weren't selected. Austin convinced the others to try one more time for Season 4 in 2013. The song "Colder Weather" was assigned to them, they got to pick the rest.
I love this rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas " This was during the last show of the season. All the finalists performed with one of the judges or the MC. Home Free had the professionalism to stand back and let her shine!
Just so you know they found Austin on a cruise ship. What a find! You can go back and find clips of him when he was working with Disney Cruise ships. If you think he looks young here I think he was in his early 20's then. But he saw them and was very impressed with them saying if they ever have an opening to let him know. Just glad they found each other. Yes that song with Jewel should have been released . They also make great back up singers. What talent. 🤩
Great reaction to all of the Sing Off Songs with Home Free. Ok here goes...Chris and Adam Ruff formed the band in 2000, there were several members that came and left. (Matt Atwood was the only one to stay until his wife got pregnant and he decided to leave not to be so far away). Then Rob came in 2008, Tim joined in 2012 and Austin joined in full time in Jan. 2013 and when Chris left in May 8 2016 and Chance joined then. They knew when Chris was leaving so they had Chance (2016) in the background until Chris' last time singing with them. Now...in the Sing Off there were three groups left and Jewel sang with Home Free and two other groups sang with Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman. I don't know if the judges drew straws or if they picked who they wanted to sing with. :) Anyway, there you go with a little more info. Thanks again for a great reaction.
The gentleman that stood first, that was Sean ,boys to men. Yes they blew their minds or than once. Thank you for your great reactions Crazy, One Man Band, What we ain't got, How Great Thou Art just a start.
"... 87 people on the stage and you can still hear him!" 😂😂😂 So true! Even in the episode's opening numbers when all the groups sang together, you could still hear Tim and Austin above everyone! 😉 A lot of us Fries were fans of the show first, and then discovered the guys during the season. They were already touring around the Midwest successfully full time before they were on the show, but the show introduced them to the rest of the world. You should take the time to go back (maybe with your family) and watch the entire season 4. It's still out there. There were a lot of good groups that season, and the judges were a riot. You can imagine how much fun they had with the guys. It's too bad you didn't get the videos that had the pre and post performance comments. Most of your questions would have been answered. So you may want to just look for those. At any rate, great reaction!! So much fun!! 😀👍
It made it, at least for now. Great that you’re digging back into their roots. They had other members before the five who won The Sing Off. They had been performing at various venues, but this show got them the exposure they needed to really take off.
By the way, I hope you also watch the vids of each performance individually, the out-takes before the performance and then the judges’ reactions and feedback.
There is a Christmas Song where Jewel sings with HOME FREE...IT IS SPECTACULAR! YOU MUST WATCH IT! YES YOU CAN STILL HEAR TIM!! I HEAR YOU MAN! YOU ARE GREAT..LOVE YA, GUY!
They did win. Story - (Once upon a time) Tim came into the group when their bass at the time was leaving the group. Tim had started his solo career and had released an album already. He had past acapella experience so Chris saw some of his stuff and reached out to him through the internet and Tim was ok with coming in on a "temporary" basis. He decided to stay. Austin was doing musical theatre on a cruise ship and Home Free came on the ship as guest entertainers, Austin loved their performance and wanted to be in the group. They met in the bar after and talked and got along with each other really well. Rob told Austin that he might get called soon for an audition because he thought their tenor Matt was leaving the group soon he had a family and was going to Help run his family's business, so a few mos later Austin was called and he had been in their group for just 6 mos to a year before the Sing-Off. (The end)
You should re-watch the sing-off by weeks 1, 2, ect.... that way you get to see the bantering between the guys and the judges respond and so on. It is wonderful.
At the time of the Sing-Off recording Austin has only been with the group for about 6-7 months or so, it aired a few months after it was recorded. Yes, you were right, Woohooo, Home Free started in 2000. Rob joined in 2008, Tim joined full-time in 2009/2010 and Austin at the end of 2012-early 2013, the show was recorded on the summer of 2013, and aired in November/December that year. For your enjoyment there's a whole Christmas-concert from the church where they first started that is a really good watch. Hosanna something. The last episode hadn't aired yet, it aired the following day I think, but the church was full and it was live streamed because so many were interested. Cool stuff. They were amazing back then, although I didn't discover them until August the following year (the Sing-Off didn't air in Europe), and they are becoming more and more amazing as time goes on. Thanks for the reaction! Do yourself a favour and watch the single videos that include the introduction of the episode and the judges comments as they will give you a great sense of who the guys are, or at least were back then, and also will give you some good laughers. Thanks for the reaction! 🥰🙏
I still regret that I didn't know these guys sooner. I would have liked to watch the Sing Off, even if only from a distance. HF put in an incredible top performance and absolutely deserved to win, although I don't want to belittle the performance of the other groups. But these guys are phenomenal.
You ABSOLUTELY have to check out the video (from someone's cell phone) online of Austin forgetting the words to Colder Weather when all of them lost it.
He was way more than 10 years younger! I have been watching them since before "THE SING OFF". THEY TOURED COUNTRY FAIRS, AND I WAS THERE FOR SOME! THEY WERE GREAT FROM THE GET GO!!! TIM is my favorite...but it takes them ALL! LOVE YOUR REACTIONS, YOU ARE FANTASTIC! THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY GUYS!
Do you mean the 14+ minute long MHH & WWTWWS? The one that begins with a special appearance by Satcho? Oh, this one is PRICELESS!!! I can't re-watch it enough. While Austin's solo turn of this song recorded in his home is beautiful, that long sustained note bringing me to tears every time, this stage video will always have a special place in my heart. You just have to watch the whole thing, the song and the routine that follows.
This brings back great memories. I was so excited to see a group from my state that after hearing them wanted them to win because of how awesome they were. I miss the show. Ring of Fire is so much better on this than their video, just because of that Bass drop. Robs gopher was hilarious!
I have been hooked on them since the "Sing-Off". I really enjoy watching your reactions. I would suggest that you watch each episode of the Sing-Off on RUclips. You missed a lot of background info and Judges comments on Home Free. I think you would enjoy them.
When you have time, search 'home free sing off all performances w judges' and settle in for a great watch. It's a playlist. Their personalities come through in their comments before and after each performance (serious and comedic). IMO their music and talents won the competition, but seeing who they are won hearts, just so genuine and so darned much fun. When I need a lift I go back and watch it, usually about once a month. Love your reactions!
This was December 2013! Each of the top three groups perform with a different judge! You really need to watch all the Sing Off performances with judges comments he learned so much more about the band!! They’ve been together as a group for a long time! Many other bandmembers have come and gone over the years!! Nice reaction!!
Their previous High Tenor, Matt Attwood, needed to give up the group to take over his family's real estate business. Luckily, they had met Austin previously on a cruise ship and he had expressed interest in joining then. Funny thing is when Attwood was in the group, they didn't do primarily country music. Not sure when that idea came about but they asked Austin to no longer hide his Georgia accent. Lol. Not that long afterwards, they did the Sing Off. From what I understand from interviews, Tim had been bouncing around from group to group (Blue Jupiter and Ball in the House) He filled in on a few shows for Home Free when their previous bass was gone. So when it came time to find a new bass permanently, they asked him. And yes, Adam Chance was bass in a group called Street Corner Symphony and Tim was friends with him so when Chris started talking about leaving, they asked Adam if he would be interested. There are recordings on RUclips of the old Home Free stuff (no video) though there is one video I found of them performing before Austin joined. It's about 10 years old so the video quality is bad but its Chris, Adam, Rob, Tim and Matt Attwood. The sound is good but video is...well it's old. Maybe not react quality but you may be interested. I have a link if you want it.
Home Free was founded 13 years before their Sing Off performances. Before their appearance, they were mainly a touring group playing small to medium venues and actually have some recordings from back then. After the Sing Off win, they began recording more but continued to tour. The pandemic created a situation where they were forced to record only. They went for it and have a plethora of music to enjoy (as you have discovered) but I still think they are best in a live setting. I've seen a bunch online but get to see a concert in December that I am excited about.
This is a stitched together compilation of all their performances on the Sing Off. So each song was performed on a different day and someone put them all together here.
They had been playing county fairs and carnivals and stuff for several years prior to this, but this put them on another level! If you watch the full show with judges comments and backstories, you'll have your questions answered. They started in 2000, I think.
Adam Chanes was in that competion too!!! In streat cornersymphoni! Pentatonic won the yearr before Home Free also. Tjhis was the last songs of the competion I think...The judges was singing with the outher groupes in the final. The group began in 2000 as a hobby for the singers, but they gradually gained in experience and popularity. By 2007 they had enough of a following to pursue music full-time. During this period, the Rupp brothers and Mat Atwood formed the core of the group, with Atwood singing lead tenor. Other members of the group came and went. They competed in an A capella TV competition "Sing Off" 4th season and won big !!! They won the TV competition the year after Pentatonix !! Then Chris Rupp was also there instead of Chance. Adam and Chris started the group in high school. Chris is now making his own career and started another band called 7th Ave whit his sister Tristin Rupp (sister of Chris and Adam) and 2 others. Here are the current members of Home Free: Adam Rupp :beatboxer that’s leaving everyone in complete disbelief as to how he could imitate an entire sound system by only using his voice and is the best in the entire US and soon in the world as he continues to develop it. He started only because they needed one. He also has his own solos in the shows. It is only then that most people understand that it is his mouth sounds from drums, harmonica and lots of other things. He also has a clear tenor voice that is used a little now and then. Adams fellow band members affectionately referred to him as a “freak of nature.” because of how he transforms from a singer and vocal percussionist into a human musical instrument. Born on April 23, 1982 Mankato, Minnesota. Graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2004 with a music performance degree in trumpet. Tim Foust: is not only bass but instead read 1 Oct lower than other men as the lowest tones are vibrations but the total range of his voice is a full 5 octaves !!!!! That is, from the lowest base to the highest tenors. He has also collaborated with a guy named Peter Hollens in songs like Misty mounten and Sound of silence. Born on July 19, 1981 from Lubbock,Texas but was raised in Nederland, a city in Jefferson County, Texas. In his early years, he attended Lamar University as a pre-dental major until the day he could no longer fight the music itch. Recently, the Nederland native was also inducted into the Museum of the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame due to his influence, talent and vocal range. He joined the likes of Janis Joplin, Tracy Byrd. First sang with them as a guest on their 2010 tour. A Texas native, Foust was then pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter of country music and had recently released a solo album, but was not ready to sign on full-time. Matthew Tuey sang with the group in the interim of 2011, until Foust joined them full-time in January 2012. Rob Lungquist: lead tenor with Swedish descended who has an angel's voice with a beard like a lumberjack! His second talent is to whistle tunes! He can also beatbox a bit. Born on June 2, 1983 and comes from Minnesota. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He joined Home Free after his graduating in 2008. He moved to Minneapolis, where he worked at the Guthrie Theater as a bartender, and he used to sing for a fellow Minnesota-based group called Four Shadow. Austin Brown: High tenor with a unique voice that is finished with country stucco on. Absolutely incredible man. Born 22 maj 1986 and comes from Tifton, Georgia. Attended Oklahoma City University, majoring in Music Theater. In 2012, Austin was working on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship as a featured singer in their production shows. When Home Free joined the cruise as a guest performing group, they met and became close and he let Home Free know that he would be interested in joining the group if they ever had an opening. At the end of 2012 lead singer Matt Atwood retire and Home Free then invited Brown to join as lead tenor. Adam Chance (called only Chance): baritone but also bass when Tim sings lead. We're just starting to understand his voice ability and wow what a voice. On March 18, 2016 it was announced that, after sixteen years performing with the group, co-founder Chris Rupp would be leaving to pursue a solo career. He would be replaced after May 8th by Adam Chance, formerly of Street Corner Symphony. Born May 24, 1984 Chance is a native of Baldwin County, right across the bay from Mobile. He stayed in Baldwin County until his early 20s. His mom still lives there until today. He is a former journalism and music student at the University of Alabama. All five of Home Free's singers have formal musical training. Lundquist and the Rupp brothers all have bachelor's degrees in music. Adam Rupp's primary instrument is trumpet. Home Free's styling as a country group is relatively recent. Before Tim Foust joined the group, Home Free was an all-purpose a cappella group, singing in a wide variety of styles, of which country was only a minor one. With the additions of Foust and Brown, the group moved more in the direction of country and found that audiences responded well to it. Home Free had auditioned three times for The Sing-Off (without Foust and Brown) and not been accepted. When auditioning for the fourth season, they made a conscious decision to style themselves as a country group. In an interview Brown said this identity is what grabbed the attention of The Sing-Off’s casting director, who said, “You guys really fit something we don’t have.” This band can not even been describe properly so ignore what title they are under… for them they are the only one in their category in the whole world !!!! Home Free converts songs to country a capella everything from Avicii - Wake Me Up to Johnny Cash "Ring of fire" etc. To understand what these are, you should check out their live recorded shows… because you do not understand them before there. Their own song videos are absolutely wonderful. You can laugh yourself to death and you can cry from recognizing heartbreaking ballads. They have released 14 records from the startof Home Free and Home Free's 2014 album “Full of Cheer” was released as “Full Of (Even More) Cheer” in November 2016 and debuted at number two on Top Country Albums with 13,000 sold, the band's best performance on the chart at the time. But the album "Timeless" came in 2nd place on the country Billebord list the first week !!!! Everyone placed high on Billebord country lists at the record release. Then you should know that the fans are significantly fewer than, for example, Blake Shelton or Kenny Rodgers. Kenny and The Oak Ridge Boyes contacted them and have collaborated on several songs Their shows are so much fun and you get involved when you go to their concerts. Be prepared for lots of laughter. Albums: From the Top (Released: July 17, 2007), Kickin It Old School (Released: March 30, 2009), Christmas Vol 1 (Released January 18, 2010), Christmas Vol 2 (Released: March 30, 2010), Live from the Road (Released: July 17, 2012), Crazy Life (Released: January 13, 2014), Full of Cheer (Released: October 27, 2014), Country Evolution (Released: September 18, 2015), Full of (Even More) Cheer (Released: November 11, 2016), Timeless (Released: September 22, 2017), Dive Bar Saints (Released: September 6, 2019), Warmest Winter (Released: November 6, 2020), Land of the free (Released: June 25 2021). They do everything they can for their fans and the fans do everything they can to for the band. The fans are called “Home Fries” and there kid fans are called “Small Fries”. There are many examples of how good and cordial it is between the fans and the band. The latest came up due to Hurricane Harvey. It hit where Tim Foust comes from and he has his family and friends there. They did not get much help. So Home Free started a “Youcaring” account where they deposited $ 20,000 and asked the fans to match… it took just under 4 hours and the fans asked them to raise the limit. They raised it to 100,000 dollars and of them we fans have reached this and find out via Facebook and pictures of how they where used. They also made a song with pictures from the fans about this. Everything from that song goes directly to the collection. They work with people they know on the spot so they know that all the money that comes in goes straight there. They were surprised at how much the fans line up and helps with which they should not be at this point as we have proven that we help when it is most needed. Another little story between the band and the fans happened during an outdoor show where they had to cancel after 3 songs due to thunder and rain storm. The fans gathered in a large pavilion to wait and see if they can play more. Then they see the band coming walking in thunder and rain up to them… stand on a camping table and say that they unfortunately can not continue the show but that they would occasionally sing an unplugged song that was incredible even before. This time it was accompanied by thunder and rain. Hehehe... You so funny...😂😂😂. Loved the sarcasm! You should watch the judges reactions and critiques, you'll appreciate how they are just as gobsmacked as you.
Awwww... I'm glad you did the series, but I hope you go back and watch the versions with the prep before the performance and the judges comments. I know you didn't know, so this is just an FYI. You will appreciate some of the background!
I've been with them since they started their journey. I am a true Home Fry I will listen to them till the day I die my most talented five men in the world right there. Watch both of these groups especially when the beatboxers come up look at the guys in the back all their movements they are doing it is absolutely awesome.. and that beautiful lady standing right there that is Jewel..
I was lucky enough to watch this competition and fell in love with this group. I've been a Home Fry ever since. ps-Jewel was my brother's favorite too.
Came back to enjoy this again. All but the first song, followed a theme. The first song was a free choice, to introduce themselves to the Judges and audience. Second song was "Party Anthem" Third Song was "My Generation" Forth Song was "Movie" Fifth Song (Colder Weather) was Judges choice, and they gave HF a ballad. The Sixth song again was free choice, but four remaining groups were told to "Go for it." Also with Filharmonic, it was Sing Off where one of the groups would be eliminated. Home Free had avoided any Sing Offs, and were always safe. But, came the time in the show, when ALL the remaining groups HAD to be in a Sing Off. Both Home Free and Filharmonic were safe and two other groups went home.
Love this reaction and yes you can hear Tim through all that is going on. Looking at this I think you should react to Ring of fire with Avi Kaplan, Colder Weather memory lapse, and just for fun My church.. either live or the video :) oh and Wagon wheel/song of the south live is great too. And Woman Amen/Female :)
VoicePlay was in the the Sing-Off during this same season. I read somewhere that Tim was giving tips to Geoff about singing lower, but I'm not sure. I know that Austin said, sometime during the competition, that Tim was singing lower than the other competitors. I like VoicePlay but I think that sometimes Geoff hits low notes because he can, not because the song calls for it. In any case, they are still a GREAT group. My personal hierarchy is Home Free, VoicePlay, Pentatonix. Each of these groups specializes in a different genre/style/preference of music, I think. Home Free does country mostly, but adds some rock & roll and some rhythm & blues; VoicePlay seems to specialize in movie/game stuff, and Pentatonix sounds like rock & roll and pop. I could be wrong, but that's how I hear it.
I think you hit the mark with your assessment, but I would add that Home Free can do anything, anything! Their hallmark is excellence in everything they do.
Each group did a song with one of the judges. You need to go back and look at Tim's face...he looks like he could jump straight out of his pants!!! lol
Home Free collaborating rather than competing in their Ultimate Sing-Off, yes, that's absolutely a very HF thing to do. In general, though, one of the things they've talked about the Sing-Off was about how there was a very positive atmosphere between the contestants, they were all very supportive of each other, and formed friendships that have lasted well beyond the competition. If you're looking for an introduction to VoicePlay, who I know has been mentioned quite a bit in the comments, a good place to start would be their version of Just Sing, which came out last year in the early lockdowns - it's a collaboration of many of the singers who worked with them, including quite a few from season 4 of the Sing-Off. Make sure you watch it with the captions on, as they tell you who people are.
I remember watching the show and loving it. I was sad it ended because many of the groups were phenomenal. A cappella just doesn’t get enough recognition for the talent
I only discovered them in the past year, along with Pentatonix, who by the way were the winners of season 3 of the Sing Off. You can watch their season too.
That Is Jewel. She is a part of the Kitchner family. It is a show about living in Alaska which is where she's was raised. She is on some of the shows with her family. Her and her son.
I didn’t join the Home Fries until early 2021. I was looking for the Oak Ridge Boys and Elvira, and came across the collab between The Oak Ridge Boys and Home Free. Started dabbling in their stuff, and was hooked within a week.
Adam and Chris founded Home Free about 12 years before this. Adam Chance competed on season 2 of the Sing Off with his former group Street Corner Symphony. I’m glad he joined HF so we can hear him share lead vocal duties. Sadly, I didn’t become a Home Fry until 2020, because I realized my favorite band members (Adam and Chris) were not highlighted well, in my opinion. During the tv airings the judges never mentioned Chris.😔
I have loved Home Free since one of my friends told me check then out since she and her sister know Tim. I have been to 2 concerts and when Tim hits those low notes you can feel it in your butt. First show I was in close to the stage the 2nd time I was in the balcony and still felt the bass.
I've been shotgunning your reaction vids yesterday today, and I have to say I'm loving it. You bring this genuine appreciation that I really dig. Subscribed! I noticed you were going to check out other a capella groups too, and I'm deep in all those rabbit holes so I'm here for it. My opinion, you cannot go wrong with anything Home Free, Pentatonix or VoicePlay do. They've all got very different vibes, but talent for days.
I see that you figured out that the female judge is Jewel, but did you know that one of the male judges is Sean Stockman from Boys to Men. Each of the judges was assigned to sing a Christmas song with the finalists. Jewel got Home Free. I don't know if they got to pick who they sang with, but I think, she was partial to Home Free from the very beginning. And, yes, I did watch the show when it was on the tv and have followed Home Free since.
I'm loving this Home Free journey with you because you can just see it on your face that you love them as much as we all do. I would love to see your reaction to When a Man Loves a Woman
Home Free was formed in 2000. The only “original” member still in the group is Adam Rupp. In the group that competed on the Sing-off, Rob came in, then some years later Tim came in, then some years later Austin came in. Austin was in the group for a year (?) before they competed on the Sing-Off. Chris Rupp left the group a couple of years after the Sing-off win, and Chance came in. They have been in this lineup since late 2016, I think
I got to see Jewel in concert at a nice small venue. she's AMAZING live. We got lucky that her brother had come to see here for that show and he actually played a couple songs while she took a break. one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
I have been a fan since the Sing Off show... Right after they won, I lost track of them for a couple months, then found their video of Do You Hear What I Hear on YT, and I've been with them since.. My kids laugh at how FanGirl I am.. LOL.. You have to check out Do You Hear What I Hear.. It is phenomenal... Another of my favorites is In The Blood.. I love watching your expressions while you watch HF... I have a whole collection of their concerts that people have put on YT... There have been many nights that I have watched concerts all night...
there is a version of this that's about an hour long that includes the judges comments also. it is hoot to watch. loads of funny stuff. highly recommend it!!!
That was my first-time hearing Jewel sing and I was blown away. I have been a Home Free fan since Tim joined the group I am not a country fan so I am still surprised how much I like them my first Home Free show was a county fair.
Thanks saucy, great 👍 reaction to the live show. These guys are so humble, even when they first started, and nothing has changed. If you've followed them from the beginning then its easy to understand their appeal. I'm so happy 😊 you're enjoying the journey. Be safe, be happy my friend 👍💕👍
Some fans have uploaded full live shows on RUclips for Home Free. As far as Sing off they did a song with Shawn too but I forgot what it was. Ben may have been in that too. Towards the end of the season the judges sang with the last groups standing
When the competition gets down to 3 final groups, each judge chooses a song & which group to sing with. Jewel had her dibs on Home Free from day 1. She adores the guys & their massive talents. Their sing off performances with the judges comments are way better than this one. I highly recommend you see those too. 😉🥰
If you want the full effect there are other copies on RUclips that have the way the songs were picked, how they prepared for them, and then the judge's comments.
I watched them BEFORE they appeared on this show. Someone had steered to me to them YEARS ago, bc they know I love acapella. Adam's beatboxing was a benefit, that to me, put them over the top! I watched all the episodes of this show. I was yelling good obscenities when they won! They haven't looked back since! Side note: The Fhilharmonic, names so c they are from the Philippines, where I live, did well after this show also. They make regular appearances on The Late Show, and other shows as well!
That judge is Sean from the group Boyz II Men...they're really good friends now.. so needless to say Sean was beside himself when they did End of the Road.. I wish I could remember where he was talking about Home Free doing their song..
Love the Sing off videos, yes you can see how much they've grown. The sing off version of Ring of Fire is my personal favorite version of that song. I love the look between Rob and Austin right before Tim drops that big old heavy note. You are correct in that the sing off battle was typically a battle to show the strength of each group, Home Free and Philharmonic did it their way There's a video out there where Rob says that they appeared on the Sing off about two or three months after Austin joined them...amazing huh
Thanks for taking us on a trip down memory lane. It was so nice to hear their songs by themselves. Hearing the judges responses is neat too. It gives us all that giddy feeling. I would love to sit next to you at a show, cuz you would probably slide right out of your chair like melted butter. Then when Tim's voice gets low, you better be prepared to take care of Mrs Saucey when you get home. Cuz the whole building is feeling it from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet and like a wave ZOOM!!! I am so looking forward to seeing them in Redding, CA July 30th
Enjoy this ride and thanks for taking us with you
Actually the song was done before they were announced as winners. Each of the 3 judges performed a Christmas song with one of the top 3 contestants.
@@jillsanders6216 well oh forgive me for having that one point in my content wrong.. oops I'm bad . I'm not perfect
Austin's sister, in the acid manner used by younger sisters, commented that if you wanted to know what he looked like at age 12, you could just watch the Sing Off. She wasn't far wrong.
I had the same thing going on when I was 27 (about the same as Austin in this). Now I’m 58 and I pretty much look 58, lol.
Oh most definitely should hear the judges comments. To me, Home Free had it bagged from the get go, & seems with the too.
I really wanted to hear a beatbox battle between Adam and Layne from VoicePlay
Their bit with the Philharmonic had Home Free written all over it.
THIS!!! Always watch with before and after commentary, it's SOOO much better!!!
Chance was the bass for Street Corner Symphony who competed on season 2 of the Sing Off
Really like your summary of the 3 groups...I think that is why there are many fans who love them all, or tend to favor one over the other based on their music tastes. I enjoy them all...HF are my hearth and home, but I agree about the bass singers...those 3 are gold.
I saw them on the show and knew from the start they were the ones to watch and listen to.
I agree!
Seconding Hoist the Colours! Also VoicePlay's "Queen in 5 Minutes" or "Panic! In 4 Minutes (Part 1 & Part 2)" are just amazing.
Same season home free beat them
You might also like the Sing Off with the judges comments. It is entertaining!
Jewel sang beautifully!! They did so good winning The Sing Off! I love Home Free😊
That man that stood up when Tim went SubWoofer, was one of the guys from BOYS TO MEN!
As part of the show's holiday show - I think they released it on the Sing Off CD sets, have to double check
Thank you for your great reactions
Crazy, One Man Band, What we ain't got, How Great Thou Art just a start.
Home free and Filharmonic got a lot of positive comments from the judges about their routine - making the best of both groups.
So, if you're feeling blue and need to just cry it out. All you have to do is listen to Home Free sing Go Rest High. Works every time.
I still regret that I didn't know these guys sooner. I would have liked to watch the Sing Off, even if only from a distance. HF put in an incredible top performance and absolutely deserved to win, although I don't want to belittle the performance of the other groups. But these guys are phenomenal.
If you want to have a laugh with the guys, check Colder memory lapse... Hilarious. And shows again that they can laugh at themselves 😁
One of my favs! 😂
Oh, that one's the best!
After Life is a Highway: "I love when Tim gets that low."
I laughed out loud! What perfect timing!
Jewel is currently on the Masked Singer as The Queen of Hearts. Most people know it's her. Her voice is undeniable.
No one is better than my guys Home Free😍
Austin does an awesome solo live of Bring Him home from les miserables with the rest of guys backing him. It’s beautiful
The song with Jewell? It's that time of the year. Boy, are you gonna have fun with Home Free's Christmas music. 😄
This always gives a new perspective on the goodness of HF. They can sing anything.
So if you want to hear some of THE SMOOOOOOTHEST vocals they do, check out "Die A Happy Man"...and swoon away.
That 2nd performance, Tim melted your face for a second. Lol
I wish you had done this with the comments. You could have learned so much more.
That beautiful lady Judge is none other than JEWEL*
In a minute Austin performed magic with that look and vocals.
That is JEWEL if you didn't know....SOUNDS GREAT, RIGHT!
Here are the current members of Home Free:
Adam Rupp :beatboxer that’s leaving everyone in complete disbelief as to how he could imitate an entire sound system by only using his voice and is the best in the entire US and soon in the world as he continues to develop it.
In an interview Brown said this identity is what grabbed the attention of The Sing-Off’s casting director, who said, “You guys really fit something we don’t have.”
This band can not even been describe properly so ignore what title they are under… for them they are the only one in their category in the whole world !!!!
Kenny and The Oak Ridge Boyes contacted them and have collaborated on several songs
Their shows are so much fun and you get involved when you go to their concerts. Be prepared for lots of laughter.

This was the final night. Only 3 groups were left and each judge sang with one of the groups.
Both Home Free and Filharmonic were safe and two other groups went home.
no that's the Home Free way Sharing the talent and the love ! Way Awesome.
You need to go back and look at Tim's face...he looks like he could jump straight out of his pants!!! lol
Each show had a “challenge”, this type, this era, etc
Jewel made Tim and Austin blush a lot. She could tell what specific notes they were hitting. Some of their comments were hilarious 😂
You have to listen to Pentatonix!
You’ll really love the individual performances because the judges’ reactions are great. Thanks for this reaction!
There is a Sing-Off Christmas album with all groups, and some are collabs with each judge.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe this first aired about 10 years ago on the ABC network. I should know. I made a playlist
out of it.
You would’ve loved the judges comments after each song…..it was Great 🥰‼️🥰🔥
I'm loving this Home Free journey with you because you can just see it on your face that you love them as much as we all do. I would love to see your reaction to When a Man Loves a Woman
When you talked about Jewel influencing your childhood, i was like...she's not that old... and then i went...oh wait...I am 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A stunning set of performances
Can't wait to see you dive into Pentatonix!
Some fans have uploaded full live shows on RUclips for Home Free. As far as Sing off they did a song with Shawn too but I forgot what it was. Ben may have been in that too. Towards the end of the season the judges sang with the last groups standing
The whole group came together about 5 years before they were on "THE SING OFF".
They gave it their all with I Want Crazy!
Jewel did a Christmas song and asked home free to accompany her. Because of her and their country back ground.
You are correct in that the sing off battle was typically a battle to show the strength of each group, Home Free and Philharmonic did it their way
There's a video out there where Rob says that they appeared on the Sing off about two or three months after Austin joined them...amazing huh
Always enjoy rewatching this!
