Yes, your explanation (around 7:00) of your journey. Yes. I never really listened to pop, even as a I kid I was listening to rock, Dokker, Def Leppard, Ozzie, etc. And then rock and alt rock into the 90s and 2000s. A reactor on RUclips, a rock guitarist, reacted to "Piri" by Dreamcatcher, and said, "well, I guess I like K-pop now", and I had to dig in deeper. And now I follow like a dozen groups, but still mostly the ones with that rock focus / foundation. Turns out one of the things about K-pop is how some of these groups so freely mix genres: pop, pop rock, punk rock, hard rock, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, so many things. It's just great to listen to.
As other Somnias have said - "Boca" is mouth in Spanish, this is the "speak no evil" part of the trilogy. The ladies are basically avenging warriors who are leaving hateful commentors to keep their mouths shut... or they'll do it for them. (the saying of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." reflected in the lyrics of "not to open again") The bridge is where the truly heavy body blows are - the line referencing angels dying is both referring to unknown victims of bullying who have taken their own lives, as well as idols who have done the same. Jiu starting the bridge with "why spend your precious time with hate" is definitely aimed at those who mercilessly attack someone online, hidden by anonymity. Loving to see your reactions! Your pauses to collect yourself are so relatable. Been there before too.
Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song?
Thank you for your emotional response. I can understand that though. I heard Dreamcatcher about 4 years ago by chance (YT recommendation) with “Scream”. Afterwards, I was so stunned that I listened to the next recommended song by Dreamcatcher. That was “Piri”. The order can also be different - but: Then both songs in a continuous loop for a few hours. Then pretty much all the songs I could find from Dreamcatcher at the time. Then the albums and the “special clips”. Then “Boca” and “Odd Eye.” From “BECause” pretty much everything with the release date. It became like an addiction. Til today. Dreamcatchers are such an incredible group. All the boring music since the beginning of the 90s was gone and brought a breath of fresh air to my ears. And that was only because I heard K-Pop for the first time - well: it was Dreamcatcher. Your beginning was also “Scream”. Also try “Piri”. Even older than “Scream”, but also a masterpiece. And I don't even want to start talking about the even earlier "Deja Vu"... And "Boca" is another work that cannot be improved upon.
Boca is actually a pretty fitting song since you very recently addressed online negativity to your videos. Boca of course being Spanish for mouth. “Dreamcatcher is going to silence the hateful speech done in anonymity “ ie online comments…
The musicians and songwriters (The Dreamers and others at DCC) have produced some really complex music. The off-beat syncopation in Scream and BOCA is proof of this. Who else does a 16-second continuous Bass note in a song? Dreamcatcher does. This style (Rock) is slowly becoming accepted in Korea, but it's an uphill journey. International fans (Insomnias) saw the genius right off the bat. The crowd here in Toronto went completely nuts. If they keep on giving bangers (They do, just wait and see) I predict induction into the Hall of Fame someday!
I'm glad to see that you continued through the trilogy. Rock has had a troubled history in South Korea. Guitars were outlawed in the dictatorship, and were not allowed on public airwaves until the establishment of the republic in 1987. Then as rock was beginning to come into the Korean music scene two members of a punk band (RUX) got naked on a live television show in 2005, and so the genre was anathema to the conservative majority thereafter. Thus, it was a bold move when Dreamcatcher re-debuted after failing as a pop group called Minx and chose to incorporate elements from rock in 2017. Dreamcatcher opened the doors a bit and several girl groups have followed in the subsequent with some rock elements as well, namely, Pink Fantasy, Purple Kiss and Pixy. There is also a girl rock band, Rolling Quartz, who has covered DC's song Good Night (and whose drummer taught the Chinese member of DC, Han Dong). You may wish to check out those groups as well eventually, but you have many more title tracks from DC to enjoy, and honestly I think you'd enjoy simply going through the title tracks in order since the horror themes of their first series would also seem to resonate with you.
In order from oldest to youngest: JiU is an amazing leader, promoting safe travels after a show. She thanks other fandoms for listening and enjoying their music. She sings the first part of the bridge. Tells dad jokes. Vocalist SuA is one of the loud ones. She is incredibly hyper and is so wild. She has a laugh like no other! She's the one that is held up during the bridge. Vocalist and rapper. Siyeon is the main vocal. She was in a rock band in school and loves the genre. Her voice is described as being like a siren, pulling you in and catching you. She's very silly and my bias. Handong is the funniest member in the group and our Ice Princess. She's such a fun member and her voice is etheral. She's holding this pain.(Deja Vu song meme lol) Vocalist (not in Scream or Boca due to being stuck in China because of Covid-19 restrictions at the time, but present in Odd Eye) Yoohyeon is the problem child LMAO. She's such a goober. Amazing voice and killer personality. Most fluent english speaker. Vocalist Dami knows the beat like no other in the industry. She knows how to adapt and she's the calm one in the group. Softie and main rapper. Gahyeon is the baby(maknae) in the group. She's been called boss baby. When asked 'money or men' she said money and it's been a meme since. Rapper and vocalist. if you'd like to explore more of their personalities alongside their music, Insomniscy here on RUclips is a channel devoted to Dreamcatcher. The 'This is...' series for all the members gives you a good look at each of their traits and how silly they are off stage. Being an idol isn't a job to Dreamcatcher, it's a passion. You can see it from all angles. They love what they do and several of them have had a hand in writing, producing, and creating choreo for their music. Happyface/Dreamcatcher company has faith in them and doesn't put them on diets or force anything on them. The group has been through a lot of hardships and they've just recently gotten their first win with MAISON and their second with BON VOYAGE. Even if the korean public is still iffy towards them, the international fanbase has been exploding for years.
''Hold up, I'm a geek the big paradox!'' is probably Dreamcatcher's most iconic line, and Dami is a such a unique idol with one of the most intriguing stage presence I've ever seen!

You should react to another Girl K-Rock Band called 'Rolling Quartz', they an actual Rock band & all of them play instrument. Their MV director also came from the same company that produce a lot of Dreamcatcher MV.

I definitely think you're gonna really enjoy all their music. I just wanted to give a bit more info on the musical eras and broad rock styles that they dabble in.
Their earlier stuff, the nightmare series, was heavily influenced by jrock which evolved into a more western rock sound as it progressed.
Their Dystopia trilogy does a lot of experimentation with electronic/dance instrumentation.
The Apocalypse trilogy is more experimental/progressive rock
Their Japanese songs tend to lean into metal more with some of the songs being very heavy.
They also have a few stand alone title tracks that do some additional experimentation around other elements.
And like I said on the Scream video, their b-sides are all over the genre spectrum.
Odd Eye is up next and is another banger, enjoy!
