Actually David was quite sick at this time, I believe fighting cancer?, he was booked but unable to make it. Bob weir stepped up to the plate for his friend, arrangements were made and this show was put together rather last minute. I remember the whispers and inside information from very excited people in the know barely able to keep a lid on it while the arrangements were happening. We all have to thank the (former) owner of the Sitzmark and Alyeska Resort (JB) as well as his staff who threw down and made this all happen. It was truly epic, three nights in a row, the venue held 300ppl max. What was truly epic were the "Sound checks" these guys showed up during the day to practice together in what at that time of day was a ski area bar/ restaurant. I received a text Bob & the DNB were doing a sound check, it turned out to be a full on, two-hour jam! They did this all three days, un-announced, people were just coming in from the slopes ordering some lunch and sitting in-front of stage four feet from the band absolutely ripping GD jams & songs! I got quite a few photos of this whole thing as I was the assigned official photographer at the time. The quality of these musicians was fantastic and although they had perhaps not played together ever or in a long time (?idk) their "sound checks" were clearly for them to practice together, non- the less it was a full on concert and I appreciated seeing them get on the same page. So in all, the three days there were about five hours of music a day if you knew when to catch the sound checks! Once in a lifetime to say the least! 300-ppl venue for Bob, When was the last time he played a gig like that lol. THANK YOU JB, Thank you Bob Weir & DNB!
This was the best show of my life. No question. So grateful. Pete Sears put my wife and I on the guest list! He was such a nice guy.
