The unbranded knives from Temu are pretty good, but the real bargain comes from the branded knives. I just bought a Cold Steel Master Hunter CPM 3V from temu for $22. They are seconds from the manufacture. They have a blemish on the handle or some other tiny defect. I usually buy Gerber or Schrade knives and by far this knife from Cold Steel is the best knife I have including my BK 18 from Becker Kabar. They come in the original box from Cold steel . Current price on other sites $150. Thanks for the review.

the auger you have is a Scotch Eye Auger. the taper on the eye is not to clamp onto the cross bar, it is designed to cut the tenon end for a mortice and tenon, using the auger end to bore the mortice. the issue you will run into, and is common on cheaper Scotch Eyes is that the inside diameter of the eye is greater than the outside diameter of the auger. so the tenon will not fit in the hole the auger generates. much like a primary field knife, Scotch Eyes are not an area you want to cheap out. a good quality one will make a tenon that friction fits very snugly in the hole it bores, will be very securely welded, or cast, so it will not break, and will last you through hundreds of joints, building shelters, furniture, or other purposes in camp. I used to have a full set ( 3/8", 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1-1/2" and 2") Scotch eyes, and a small set of gimlets (1/4" 3/16" and 1/8") for the smaller holes I need. that kit was stolen, but I did a video on alternatives, because I could not afford to replace the Scotch eyes.
@@BrianSmith-ql5nj since the end is still part of the rail, it is a tenon, not a dowel. round mortis and tenons have been used for centuries in a wide range of applications
@@BrianSmith-ql5nj I have been a journeyman carpenter in the past when I was healthy enough, as well as a furniture maker, and you are wrong. I would not be so blunt, but the tone of your "schooling " me annoyed me. there is no such restriction on a tenon being rectangular. a tenon is an integral part of a stile, or rail that is reduced to pass through a mortise ( ALSO not limited to rectangle) round tenons are centuries old. and every bit as viable as rectangle or square tenons. a dowel is a separate piece inserted into holes in both pieces of material being joined. dowels and tenons may serve very similar functions, but are not the same thing. historically, round tenons were carved, and round mortices were cut with a drill. just because you have not experienced this, does not invalidate it. historically round mortice and tenons were used in furniture construction, as well as small shelters, intended to be broken down and transported. in the future, please research a topic before you try to "educate: someone who has decades of experience with that topic.
