Thunderbolt 3 external SSDs are so much cheaper than what Apple charges, that there's literally no reason to pay Apple for larger storage. *Especially* on a desktop machine that won't be going with you on your plane trips anywhere. I can see paying for it in a laptop -- carrying external drives around with a laptop can be a total pain. But a desktop? Nope. Pay for the extra RAM, and leave it at the base storage amount. While I do largely agree with you that lack of upgradeable storage sucks, there is probably solid reasoning behind it. Part of what makes their unified memory work so well is that it is so tightly connected to the storage with an ultra-low-latency storage controller that enables really fast memory swap to and from the storage drive since they’re integrated in the same chip. Having external (upgradable) storage could drastically reduce the speed and increase latency of it, hindering overall performance and memory management.

Here is a little story (and the reason why I buy Apple products) I purchased Mac Mini Intel 2020 on September 16 this year. Was aware that Apple silicone Macs were coming, did not expect Mac Mini to be one of the first. You could understand my disappointment when it was announced. The 14 days returning window had long passed. We were in a lockdown in UK, so I could not go to Apple Store (they had picked up service only) on the 4th of December I booked shopping with specialist and spoke to the Apple stuff if there would be a remote possibility of swaping the over 2 months old Mac Mini with the recent M1. He said he needed to speak to a manager. 5 minutes later he came, apologizing for "keeping me waiting" and said YES, we will swap it for you. Just go home and bring with the box and power plug. I did, 30 min later was back at Apple store. Swap it right away, and.... wait for it.... they gave me £90 back to level the difference on price (I purchased the Intel one with student discount, and the same the M1) Now this is an experience that I do believe you do not get with any other company, truly impressed. EDIT: I came back here to say that I am apsolutely loving the speed and performance of the M1 Mini.
Never gave any thought to the Mac Mini before the M1. Now I’m loving it. Thanks for the great videos!

Can you still use a 27 in Cinema Display with this computer?
I think now, with the Mac transitionning and how the result is actually, a good setup that cost not so much is
Mac Mini for having the best of performance for good price
Macbook Air for having something powerful and really silent
iPhone SE/12 Mini for low/mid budget iPhone
iPad 8th gen for a great iPad experience (the iPad Mini 5 is great too, i have it it's so great and not so big for those who like little things)
Yeah I totally agree, they've got a fantastic set of gear you can buy and not go totally broke over it.
You could get an external NVME adapter.
Please test, is it consume alot of electric supplay ? Because MBA had battrey life better i assume M1 consume little electricity supplay..
