I have been an audiophile for over 40 years and I still enjoyed sitting through this entire video... You are a really good presenter, Michael! Thanks as always. Looking forward to all your vids.
Rotel RB-1562 is a class D 100 watts/2 ch. amplifier., it is a unicorn amp made by Rotel and they are right about it is special. The only way to find out is have your ears discern how studio recordings are made and represent it in your system. The Rotel amps will give you the sound you always wanted short of a concert or live studio recordings. I have the newer class AB Rotel RB MKII series amps but this one blew it away in a Michi class style. Running Audiolab pre-amp, Martin Logan Speakers/KEF and Zu Audio wires.
When I had a friend over to hear what an under 10 watt per channel tube amp could do with a pair of Klipsch RP 600MII's.....he scratched his head and asked to see proof this was a 6 watt per channel amp.....then he wanted to know where the powered subwoofer was hiding....there wasn't one. My friend has been convinced power and fidelity depend on one another...not quite true
Learn from my mistake! I mismatched my speakers and amp by buying way more power than I need, so most of my listening is at the 9 o'clock point on the volume knob or lower. This makes it very hard to make small volume changes from the remote. A delicate press on the volume buttons goes a long way! The details: speakers are 88db, 4 ohm design, 6 ohm average, amplification 100W. The amp puts out 240W at 4 ohms (0.05% THD, RMS, 20 Hz - 20 kHz).
Myth: Class A is always the best fidelity. Truth: several class A may sound bloated with weak bass and/or polite top end. Moral of the story: Class A does not mean it can drive anything, it's topology isn't a magic bullet. Many ae voiced quite gently.
Great video! However my understanding (witch may very well be completly wrong 😂) of the sensitivity number on the spec sheet of a speaker is that it is most often taken from measurement done with a simple sine wave @ 1k hz. If you want to use the speaker for a complex full range signal, such as music, the energy (Watts) needed to reproduce the same spl increaces alot. Have you heard about this?
Most newbies make the mistake when they think that floorstanders are harder to drive! Not so! More speakers in a larger cabinet means easier to drive so less watts are needed!
Plot twist: some speakers have deliberately low efficiency as the tradeoff necessary in order to produce believable bass, like the Dynaudio Evoke 10 - superb speakers with efficiency of 84dB. Yes they require a high watt (and more specifically high current amp such as Rotel), but such a pairing is quite superb.
Got a Schiit 2 watt Rekkr amp powering Kef q150 speakers for a desktop nearfield setup. Sounds great and plenty of volume. I liked the sound from the Rekkr compared to the Fosi ZA3. Not really how much watts, but the quality of watts.
Just did buy my first set of speakers I did go with the Sonetto III from sonus faber LOVE THEM! and then I use the ARCAM SA30 as my intergrated amp I do love the sound!
I have 2 speakers and a subwoofer by AIWA. They were part of a component/shelf system, which I have since discarded, but I kept the speakers. The speakers are 200w. Can I do anything with them?
At this point , there are enough speakers and gear on the market for every individual taste on the planet . Instead of defining speakers and gear with numbers and letters , how about naming them , Bobs speakers joes amplifier betty's cables george's banana plugs etc.
Even if budget constrained and starting small with an integrated amp, getting one that can be built upon is a good idea: a preamp out to add a power amp, sufficient analog ins to attach an external dac and/or phono preamp, a decent headphone output, subwoofer out or second preamp out.
I wouldn’t waste money in this economy, I would go after something decent that sounds good and measures well, it will set a standard in the sound you like.
Hi Andrew. I am managing my speakers with 2x400watts monoblocks from hypex. Even with 10% (stated 0,001%) thd I am still pushing around 360 "pure watts" into speakers Rest is on the source... Nowdays power is cheap...

Thank you Paul that means a lot to me!
I’ll be glad to go 1st. Thanks for the video. Important to match equipment to get the best sound possible.
Agreed and thank you for your support!

Another way to make an informed choice is to check out the reviews for that amp.

Agreed I have a little baby class A amp designed by Nelson Pass, can’t be more than 8 watts, and it drives those Klipsch’s wonderfully

What amp is it?
Parasound HINT (not the HINT 6)
thank u sir
Thank you 🙏

except, the given efficiency example is 89dB@2W because the speakers are 4ohms nominal impedance. for 1W you have to apply 2V instead of 2.83V.

Depends on the floorstander, my Kappa 8s are the most difficult speakers I’ve ever had to power. But yes, there is much truth behind your statement.
So i found the perfect channel for the subject. But something tells me that we need more videos like this one in the future.!!!
Thank you my friend!

@@audioarkitekts ¨Thank you sir, yea its an amazing world to step intro!
Close your eyes and just pick one😂
lol 😂

betty's cables
george's banana plugs etc.
I have 6 ohm speakers, 90 db, recommended power up to 100w. Which receiver under $500?
Being a spec slave will not get you where you want to go

Yamaha makes some excellent inexpensive integrated amps, I’ll add them to the description.
Thanks very informative
You’re welcome
Start at the bottom. Entry level and learn what you’re listening to.
I wouldn’t waste money in this economy, I would go after something decent that sounds good and measures well, it will set a standard in the sound you like.
If you have no experience, you won’t even know what you’re listening to.

Gotta love Hypex. My Class D Purifi build runs my Kappa 8s!
