My JRPG brain woulve never thought mage or priest into Warrior was a viable strat😂. But it makes sense now thanks. Its my first dragon quest so maybe thats why.
Almost none of the other Dragon Quest games are like this. Most of the time your party has a preset job. I like this way better but it’s disliked by a lot of people
Something I always loved about the game, right from the original was the ability to experiment with these different class combos. Of course back then we didn't have the net to make things easy, so we had to do some math to figure out some of the better choices. DQ3 is my fav because it introduced this kind of thing and made the game so versatile! That and the similarity to the real world map + the lore of it all. This game is AAA+++ :D Have fun everyone!
Dragon Quest I-III was the first RPG game I got for the Switch when I finally got one last year. I loved all 3 games but III was my favorite so I am hyped as heck for this remake. Because I admittedly love level grinding I am going to class change my 3 other party members twice just so that I can have the best of all 9 classes with my party! I looked at the skill guides, and i have to hit level 38 before each class change so I better order this from PlayAsia on Black Friday so that I can get started.
This video is godsend. You really know this game really well, you even called out the mage nerfed. I will be using this as a guide in my class switching! I hope you make more videos on dq3 hd 2d
Now we need a video which explains what skills/spells are learned - and at what level they're learned - for every vocation. Also heard somewhere that Gadabout gets access to Hustle Dance, but need verification on that lol Btw, I am going to be doing an Outside the Box thought process for my current playthrough's party, since I'm doing a thematic setup. Theme: Dragon Quest XI - Erdwin's party Final plans will be the following: Erdwin - Hero (Current Class: Duh~) Personality: Paragon (Because fitting) Serenica - Sage (Current Class: Mage) Personality: Vamp (because it's just too good for a female) Morcant - Mage (Current Class: Monster Wrangler) Personality: Genius (because fitting, except for when he [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS] in DQXI) Drustan - Warrior (Current class: Merchant) Personality: Lucky Devil (since fitting in its own way) I'm a ways away from getting to Alltrades Abbey (Current goal is to fight Robin 'ood for the first time), but I look forward to seeing how things manage from there. I wanna get Drustan a lot of skills, same for Morcant and Serenica. If Gadabouts can learn Hustle Dance, I will suffer through it for Serenica, Drustan, and Morcant (albeit at different times) solely for that skill. Morcant and Serenica will eventually be saved for Lv 45 Gadabouts, though, for magic damage improvement. Also will be leveling Morcant as a Sage until he learns all spells, but will eventually change him to Mage for thematic reasons.
Thanks for the video idea! The skill learnsets have been shuffled so its been kinda hard getting precise info on them (Since they game just came out). I had to dig deep into japanese forums.
About hustle dance, keep in mind it's not like dragon quest 6 or 7, the skill is no longer free to cast. It is a bit cheaper than multiheal though(14 mp Vs 18).
I started with Warrior, Mage, Priest. Then changed to Martial Artist, Gadabout and Sage. I farmed metal slimes in the Tower of Transcendence until Gadabout was lvl 20. Made Gadabout a Sage and he is quite strong. Lots of willpower and mana. My priest that I made a sage is a bit more durable but the one I changed from mage to gadabout to sage might have more stats from 2 class changes. I'm happy with it so far. My more durable sage heals most of the time and the other is all about damage.
I changed classes multiple times and ended up with a monster wrangler, thief, and merchant at the end. All acting twice, all with all mage/priest spells, having wrangler find skill, thief steal and merchant money plus all using boomerangs. Nothing lasts more than one round with this set up and you get phat loots!
a creative use of three party members that I read about a long time ago that would theoretically still work for this game would be to start your party out as something like Warrior/Mage/Priest and then change your warrior into a mage and your mage into a warrior, specifically to give them both the stats they would be missing since Sage is kind of a hassle to get (you'd also do a lap through gadabout with your priest once you were established enough to get away with it, usually via metal slime abuse), BUT with the new revisions to the game, you could probably also do something like (Mage and/or Priest)>Warrior/Merchant>Monster Master/Gadabout>Merchant>Gadabout>Sage. The reasoning for the complicated thing with party member #3 is that you'd start as Gadabout with party member 3 and then go through merchant before going back to gadabout, specifically for the Sexy/Vamp personality on a sage. Party member 1 is either a tanky healer or a tanky caster, but if you felt like it, you could do both before going into warrior since you're going to be running the gauntlet with Gadabout anyway, there isn't much logic behind it it's basically there because you need a meaty boi in the end game and having the ability to do support the party in some way besides mashing the attack command is always nice.
I just did Warrior > Monster wrangler, and one important point: the useful assassination warrior ability is learnt at lvl 23 (and not 21) in DQ3 remake. Hope it will help others like me who struggle to find this information online.
Yup, it is indeed lvl 23, i reclassed to warrior after this video and learned that the hard way. Info on the game sometimes confuses itself with old versions, sorry about that.
Aside from the utility abilities and the Snoop spell I’d say a Thief should at least go for Hypnowhip before class changing. Especially if going for Warrior or Martial Artist. It’s a solid group hitting attack that can inflict confusion! It’s one of the faster classes to finish getting skills too if you want to take it all the way. Persecutter is a situationally great attack if you can inflict sleep or confusion on a boss but it’s not entirely necessary. But I pulled it off a couple times on bosses with a Warrior that learned all the Thief skills and it was fun lol. Iirc the second time I did like 5000 something damage with it with an Oomph effect. Backdraft can be nice sometimes but it only lasts a turn and you can’t always know when an enemy is gonna use a breath attack. But when it does work it’s kinda cool. Not a must have by any means. Assassin’s Stab is kinda neat too if you gonna do single target damage in a regular fight. But it is a little redundant if going Warrior since Warriors learn Pressure Pointer which pretty much does the same thing.
I wish I found this video before starting a playthrough cause I would've approached party building better. Atm I'm running 2 sages and 1 monster wrangler with my hero but I should've went a paladin approach or a black knight or dark monster wrangler. To end with what you want to stay as for the endgame is a key tip
@acwano I actually used the clown class instead of trying to find the book....I hate that class. But I did star a adventure with a female hero so I can vamp with 2 classes after getting the mini medal reward
Started off with Merchant, Priest and Monster Wrangler and even after watching this video scratching my head at what I want to do with each of them. Currently leaning towards: Merchant > Warrior Priest > Sage Monster Wrangler > Martial Artist
Mine is: Merchant > Thief > Monster wrangler Priest > warrior > sage Warrior > Monster wrangler > Martial artist I might make a detour and grab some mage skills with my thief before MW, since its wisdom stat is decent and having a 2nd spell caster could help (since my hero has a dogshit wisdom stat)
It doesn’t take that long to relevel to 20 near all trade. Don’t be afraid to try new classes. I didn’t think I would like Martial Artist but they ended up in my final team comp
I started with Thief, Mage and Monster Wrangler. Reclassed Mage to Sage, Thief to Warrior, and MW is going to be a Martial Artist as soon as I find 50 monsters. I wasnt sure if I wanted to keep MW the same class until the end but going MA might be better.
The route im taking is Monster Wrangler, Mage, and Priest. Gunna turn my mage into priest and my priest into a sage. I got my preferred personalities for them so once class change happens, thats when I'll drop my stat seeds. (Sage can equip a ton of decent end game items, and a decent mage turned into a priest makes for a nice spell slinger) but that's just me.
I started with mage/thief/priest and changed them into sage/merchant/martial artist (yes, I made a ninja/healer hybrid). Maybe I'll change merchant to monster wrangler and martial artist to warrior later, but sage stays.
I played the updated version on the Nintendo switch before the 3D version came out. I did not know that this was a function in the game where stuff that you earned in one class would carry over. I was never aware of the properties of being able to create a magic warrior or a healing monk I was under the impression that as soon as you change your class you get a completely new skill tree and the main goal was to turn your hero into a sage and have a priest and mage on your team still
I went with LV 20 Thief -> Sage so I have a pretty speedy caster LV 37 Priest -> Warrior for the tanky healer. Since the Warrior is the slowest character, they can be used for healing, reviving, debuffs in the final turn. So it's like a safety after a boss does huge damage after the Sage + Martial Artist does their initial casting. My priest reached LV 37 before getting the final Orb (with some grinding ) LV 30ish Mage -> LV 37 Priest -> Martial Artist - speedy caster (w/o the best Mage spells but can still doe midrange AOE damange if required but can heal and buff, and debuff quickly). At this point the Martial Artist class change already happened right before jumping to the 2nd world. I waited LV 37 priest since that's when they learn Kazing
I always pull Merchant>Sage Priest>Mage>Fighter Fighter>Priest>Mage>Warrior Really min/maxs the party pretty well. Its always nice to have a Sage just now level 15 and have a HUGE MP pool at 278.
@@Rikarikun I change my sage instantly to Genius, since it has S scaling in wisdom and B scaling in Agility, makes for an incredibly fast hard hitting and high healing mage/priest combo. I base my party around sustainability and flexibility over trying to brute force my way through, with this party setup I can have a fully party of decent healers, coupled with stat boosting spells, heavy hitting melee fighters, and everyone having access to elemental damage. All stat boost spells are situational, start with acceleration, then if the enemy makeup is melee users buff defense, if they are magic users, double acceleration and magic barrier, if it's a mix, acceleration, magic barrier, and defense buff then go in for the kill, and since the introduction of abilities, if I need to my sage has the ability to call an inn keeper, save priest, or merchant if I need restock or heal and save. Edit: Honestly starting out with a merchant and changing to a Sage is incredibly broken in this iteration of the game, with the ability to use Service Call at any point. 😂
I might, just for funsies, start a file where I try to gain all the class abilities (sans the Hero-exclusive ones, of course) onto one character. Yes it’s _ridiculous,_ but it’s also hilarious to grind over and over to end up with this overpowered demigod of a Sage.
I plan to do exactly this for all my endgame characters. It's never been more worth it than in this remake with every class having a bunch abilities to learn. If you're planning to do this, I'd suggest always using the gadabout route to get to sage so you learn whistle, an essential grinding tool.
DQ3 HD-2D is my first Dragon Quest game, but from my Fire Emblem 3DS brain I’m all over the party system it provides. I’ve kept my team rather standard as it’s my first playthrough, but I’m already craving a second playthrough with wackier choices. Or at the very least, I think I could enjoy trying my best to snag every skill on one character over time. Although even on Draconian, I’ve only farmed EXP to reach Level 20 to swap Vocations, then fix them up. Ironically I feel as if I should be farming more LOL, the possibilities for vocation-swapping is endless
The nice thing about Merchant -> Gadabout -> Sage is how fast the transitions are; especially if you do any sort of "gold grinding" to get the best kit once you land in "Europe". Merchant and Gadabout both gain levels blindingly fast, so this character can be on their third class by the time slower-leveling characters like Priest or Martial Artist are ready for their first switch. Mage, IMO, straight up sucks. They're so fragile early (pair only with Warrior, basically) and they level so damn slowly.
Yeah, I think mage is definitely a class you can skip. The sage and priest give you everything you want in terms in terms of magic. I still transitioned to mage at some point just cuz I wanted to try every class.
So how crucial is it to change vocations and start back at level 1? Is it worth it to re grind to level 20 before leaving on your boat for the first time?
100% worth, its very fast to go back to 20 with metal slime. And even before lvl 20, your new class will already be stronger. Since u started as a level 1 with crazy high stats
A recommendation is to *stick to a class and learn everything from it before changing* Yes, some skills take a long time to learn but they can be a game changer Priests learn *Kazing* as the last spell, guaranteed revive at full health Mages learn *Morph* which lets the user mimic another party member in terms of stats, skills and equipment And Thieves learn *Backdraft* which repels one breath attack for one turn And much more, up to you to get all abilities for the achievement trophy (for non-Switch users 😅)
If youre planning to make your priest into a sage, you dont need to wait so many levels for kazing since sage learns it too at some point. But overall, I agree with your advice!
Backdraft can be cool when it catches a breath attack but it only works for a turn at a time and you can’t always know when an enemy is gonna do a breath attack. I’d say it’s not a must have skill aside from the achievement for filling the spells and ability list even as someone who had a Male Thief learn everything before becoming a Warrior til I beat Baramos and then changed him to a Martial Artist after getting Metal Slash.
Did you know there are at least 2 words of wisdom books? I found a second one in a dresser in the dark world! Just something to keep in mind for additional options for sages for multiple party members without needing to grind gadabout (but granted, would have to be post Baramos)
Yes, I did know. But the 2nd one is kinda late into the game for some people who want two sages in their party as soon as the mid-game starts. But I did forget to mention that in the video so thanks for sharing!
I’ve found 3. There’s the one in the Tower of Transcendence as usual… but SPOILERS: One is only accessible by Ramia, hidden inside a secret spot located in the mountains around Khoryv, it’s pretty easily visible on the map The other is inside a house in Rimuldar, at the very top-right corner of the house you can find it
Its doable as long as its on DRACKY mode only since its only attack move Call Army is pure CRAP even if you have loads of Gold to use bosses barely take damage from it IF at all.
Absolutely! you can always go back for free as long as youre level 20 and not a sage. if you wanna go back to sage you need an item of which there is only 3 copies or become a gadabout.
regarding the monster collecting, once you caught 50 monsters, does that mean all your future monster wrangler users automatically get the skills to act twice? I think you only need to find your 50th monster once, and all future instance of monster wrangler user will have that act twice skill.
Thanks for the support! Best team to start with for me is priest + Merchant + A dps of your choice except Martial artist (better late game). Here is an example of a good path: Priest -> Thief -> sage Merchant -> monster wrangler -> Martial mage -> Warrior -> sage/monster wrangl You can mix them up but you get the idea. Martial artist, sage, monster wrangler, and even warrior are good classes for the late game.
@ Thanks so much ! And for example if i go priest -> lvl 24 i change for thief. Do I go for sage when this thief is lvl 20 or i have to make him xp a bit more ?
I started with 3 merchants. 2 of them got switch to Gad, one to martial arts. This way the Gads were less shitty and got to 20 a lot faster. Once the two sages learn all spells. I ll use to book on the martial arts. And change the two sages into martial art and warrior. I think this way I ll get advantage of all spells and optimal equipment allocation.
When you say you go from merchant -> thief -> monster wrangler, how many levels would you recommend to stay at the thief/warrior class before switching again?
its not that worth to stay longer as thief unless you want hypnowhip at level 25, which can be useful. As for warrior, I think you should not change for the rest of the game. 3 switches is good enough unless you wanna be behind on exp or have to grind a lot. Also, warrior learns a LOT of good abilities at later levels. So your final class would be the third one for merchant.
Thief->Warrior>Martial Artist makes the most sense to me. Thief->Warrior means that you will have decent base AGI to make up for how painfully slow Warrior is, which means you can level up and get all of his skills without feeling like 90% of the time the warrior is dead weight, then you can transition to Martial Artist with high Str and end game high crit rate. Also Thief gets an AoE skill relatively early and the late game skills kinda suck so you can swap soon after 25ish, and the downside of Warrior not having access to AoE is solved
Lets not fool ourselves here, you really want two characters: a quadracaster with high Wisdom growth and wild side and duplic hat, and fast character with high Agility or Resilience and monster pile on, and a Sage for housekeeping (and this can be anything, a former Gadabout or anyone you used the Book on). The question is, how do you want to transition to that end character? sure there's the uncomplicated way of having two Monster Wranglers and just switching them once you get Wild Side, but is that really the most efficient way numbers wise? I think about this a lot but i'm so bad at math, but I know there's a golden path here
Way better to start as warrior or thief than Martial in my opinion. Martials take a lot to level and shine the most when they get their crazy guaranteed crit passive at lvl 47. So its a late game class
I did mage -> gada-> sage Priest -> merchant -> wrangler -> sage. Warrior -> thief -> ma -> back to warrior. After this video I'm thinking to transition that warrior into a wrangler and MAYBE back to MA if I want to. I really want a wrangler
I'm lucky I love grinding, I was planning on having Hero PM1 = monster wrangler -> thief -> warrior -> martial artist PM2 = priest -> monster wrangler -> gadabout -> sage PM3 = thief -> merchant -> warrior -> monster wrangler The extra class transition is mostly for stat growth, even tho it's fairly easy to grind seeds in this game
Your PM1 is gonna have to stay MW for a while to get the act twice skill since he starts as one. But except that minor detail, your plan looks AMAZING to me. Nice planning! ps: you can also ignore the gadabout since you're planing to get 1 sage only. You can get the 1st copy of the item necessary very easily and early, in the tower of transcendance.
@acwano yeah, I realized this after getting it in the tower of transcendance. I grinded the metal slimes to get my PM1 and Hero around lv 28 to carry the other 2 and they're around lv 18 now, I'll probably stick to this until the midgame for the higher stats, abilities and spells, but I'm at 23 out of the 50 monsters I need for the monstet wrangler skill. Probably will keep the wrangler until post game because I'm planning on 100% the game
Imagine if we got a vocation system similar to DQ6&7 in the DQ2 remake. I'd like to add the Heliochopter is an excellent Merchant skill. My Merchant lv 37>Thief is handling the late game really well, and I'm probably going to make him a Martial Artist in the post-game.
Anything you want really! The important thing is to not repeat urself too much to get skills from every class. Look at the timestamps and watch the section about warrior mage cleric, then make your choice.
What is the point of going priest->sage if the only thing you get from sage is mage spells, which you can get from going priest->mage? Does sage get any other abilities that are incremental to the spells?
thats the difference between the 2 schools of thought in DQ3. Some people like to have more diverse skills and some like to fully invest a character into 1 role. Priest needs wisdom a lot for healing and MP. By becoming a sage, their wisdom growth explodes and they can do their job a lot better, while having more offensive capabilities. Also, sage keeps learning spells for a long time till level 41. Anyways, sage is considered a good class change for them but some people like to mage their priest a thief or warrior in the mid game for stat growth to then become to sage.
@@acwano Very helpful. I charted and compared the list too. Didn't realize it took mage/priest until level ~40-41 to get the full set, which makes a difference.
If you already have a thief, your priest can become a sage immediately, if you want. Also, your thief can become a Monster wrangler before transitioning to fighter in the late game (martial artist). That way, you grab a bunch of extra skils and the ability to act twice.
I have a monster wrangler in my starting party, am I losing out on a lot of if I just never switch their class? Also would going gadabout->thief make sense because of high luck? Lastly is the merchant completely useless late game? I love their look and want to keep them.
The gadabouts sole existence is to be a free sage, do not level up a gadabout for any other reason, especially not in the early to mid-game. Its pure suffering. If you wanna grow your luck, try to get the lucky devil personality (150% luck growth) through an item or accessory. I talk more about personality multipliers in my most recent video if youre interested.
Question: Is it worth it to go Mage/Priest -> Priest/Mage -> Sage so you have all Spells? or does the Sage learn all the spells from both Mage and Priest?
The sage learns almost every spell in the game yeah. Priest into mage is not considered the best. Especially if you already have a mage, its a bit redundant. Just make one of them a sage and the other a warrior or thief to grow their HP or their speed respectively. But hey, if you think its more fun for u to have 2 complete spellcasters who do the same thing, then go ahead. Prioritize what you want!
Your thief can become a fast warrior. Your monster wrangler can become a martial artist, wait for the passive you get at 50 monsters found before transitioning tho, it allows you to act twice like i said in the video.
When you talk about finding 50 monsters with the MW, what do you mean? Do you just have to battle 50 different monsters or what how do you get 50 monsters what is the method to do it fast? Thank u for the video
I am talking about the docile monsters, a feature added in this remake. Have you started playing the game yet? If you didn't, dont worry, you'll see. There are monsters in the world that are kinda like collectibles. You have to fin them, then can then use them in the monster arena. The more you find, the stronger your MW becomes.
yeah why not, but you dont nees gad if you find the books. Having to level the same party member 4 times can get tedious. Now, something to keep in mind. The mage as a steping stone for sage isnt really useful as a priest since you will learn most of the mage skills as a sage.
Love the video but still having a problem making my mind up I'm currently level 23 with all characters and I started with Martial Artist, Mage and Priest.. What path should I take or would you recommend? Again I appreciate the vid
I'm glad you enjoyed the vid! You have many choices. The mage and priest kinda have the same choices (thief for speed, warrior to become tankier or, sage to learn a LOT of spells and insane wisdom growth) but try to make a different choice for them in the mid game. In the late game, its fine if they're both sages ngl. Now keep in mind that once you make someone a sage, its better for them to stay as a sage until the very late game when they've learned everything they need from the class, you cant switch out and in of sage cuz you need the item everytime and there is only 3 copies of it in the game (and 2 of them are found late in the game) As for your martial artist. Monster wrangler, thief or warrior are all good choices. The best being MW in my opinion, for the act twice passive. I personally would go back to martial waaay later in the game (cuz of the garanteed crit passive at lvl 47). That way, you make the ultimate DPS.
Mage into sage for ultimate spellcaster, Priest into thief for a fast healer and usedful overworld skills. And warrior into Monster wrangler until you collect 50 monsters (for the act twice skill) then transition again into a martial artist in the late game for the ultimate dps. Those are my recommendations, but remember, the most important thing is to have fun! Your thief healer could also become a second sage later in the game when you get the 2nd copy of the item necessary to transition into a sage (words of wisdom).
Well yes, but they keep the same hair color and voice. Their outfit and hairstyle will change tho. Dont worry you will be able to pre-visualise their future look when you change their class, I hope it helps you make your choice.
The Gadabout learns a skill that enhances spells at level 45. It sucks to level one to 45, but it's a pretty good skill to have for a Sage (and required for the achievement/trophy)
But at the same time while you can't DIE in Dracky/Easy mode by games end I find even Kafrizzle the best attack spell to be pure CRAP In boss fights EVEN WITH the lv 45 Gadabout skill.
@@acwano in other dq i never change class whiout masster all the skills first and master alll the classes, so stupid when you only need to master to change to hero and destry all
Super helpful video! Liked and subscribed. Quick question. Is there any drawback to switching from martial artist to warrior and back to martial artist? Bc I'd like to end with him
It seems best to have two transition classes before going back to your original class, according to what other people are saying. I'm still early in the game myself.
Thanks a lot for the support! And, No there isnt really any drawback, except having go level up your warrior. Ending with the martial artist is very good since they learn a broken passive at lvl 47 that allows them to crit everytime. So your plan is good for someone who started with martial. You could replace warrior with thief if you dont already have one, to make a fast Martial Artist.
I'm sure it gets the job done but im not a big fan to be honest with you. Martial artist is a class that truly shines in the late game when their crits are garanteed (lvl 47) and they have ways to deal insane damage.
i have a general question, ill use martial artist and monster wrangler for arguments sake: is there a difference in any way if you start with martial artists and transition into monster wrangler compared to start with monster wrangler and transition into martial artists?
Yes absolutely, ending with a martial artist is a lot better. For 2 main reasons: -Martial artists are slow to lvl up, so like the sage, theyre better to grab later -They unlock their full potential at lvl.47 when they get the ability to crit every time. You could do, for example: MW->MA Thief->MW->MA Merchant->MW->MA (you could go back to MA after learning the crit passive if you want, but that requires some grinding)
I thought the personality decides the stats. Does class also affect the stats too? Say if I have a warrior with vamp, a thief with vamp. At level 10, will both characters have the same stat due to having vamp personality?
and it could possiby Determine your LV up rate based on personality so on the Switch collection of DQ 1 to 3 I had the Vamp one on a FEMALE Hero hit lv 2 faster then using a lv 2 Female Hero with the TOUGH Guy Personality.
if i change the class of my thief to a monster wrangler, do I still retain the ability to steal enemy drops after a fight? or is this passive ability tied to class?
Nope, the passives that are not in your skill/ability list are not transferable. Only thiefs can steal items and only merchants can get you double money sometimes.
Actually i was looking for your recommendation on what level to transition away from martial art. Unfortunately i started with him. I dont believe i saw yoyr level recommendation? @@acwano
The really good Martial artist skills are learned way later, so you either wait till level 47 or switch at lvl 20 then go back to martial in the late game.
kabuff is good but the sage learns it very early... (around lvl 9). Mage is not bad, the class just became less useful in this remake. Especially since they have less gear options than other classes, they are very squishy AND take longer to exp than the other "starting class". Now mage is not useless by any means, if you want a party member to learn a lot of spells for free and quicker than sage, its a good option in the mid game. But you never wanna stay mage, and starting as mage makes you weaker than other potential comps.
Nope! This game is all about classe changing, you keep your skills and half your stats so you can kinda mix classes together, pretty fun! You unlock this feature when you reach a place called alltrade abbey, which is northeast of baharata, you'll see when you get there. Enjoy party composition!
That's because of the old version Figher/Warrior/Thief don't learn PHYSICAL skills at all Fighter/Warrior gain NO MP but the spells in this remake are mostly the same for the White/Black Mage the only NEW spell for the mages is the revive at 1 HP left spell which still sucks since it still fails 50% of the time.
The monster wrangler with pile-on ability has been my highest damage dealer. Would transitioning him to martial artist actually improved damage output?
its a new class so im not 100% sure yet, but in the late game, martial artists are garanteed to crit and have crazy high attack. Do you wanna crit twice every turn?
Does changing classes still half all stats? This has prevented me from going spellcaster -> Physical since their MP would be halved and not improve with levels.
Yup, still gets halved. But with a wisdom boosting personality, you can kinda solve this issue. Also, half is a lot for a level 1. Their MP isnt gonna be as low as a normal physical class.
Are your stats only cut in half from what you gained from the class or from the total? I am just wondering if it is worth it besides skills to change classes more than 3 times.
More than 3 times, so 4 classes? probably not honestly, unless you like grinding. I recommend changing once if you hate grinding and twice if you dont mind some extra grinding. But in this game, youre gonna have to grind at some point anyways, it just depends when. (the grinding is pretty fast)
Absolutely, yeah. Now, repeating a class will create a party member with less skills. But if you have 2 classes in between you should be fine. Now, keep in mind that doing this will require some extra grinding. The warrior is a great starting AND end point!
Will probably require more grinding than usual since the stats buffs u get from class changing are pretty considerable. Not counting the extra skills that also help. If you like your current party, you can always bring them back to their original class after getting lvl.20 with the 2nd one.
My first time playing DQ3. Just started yesterday. I have Hero/Wrangler/Martial Artist/Priest. I see a lot of talk here about making Wrangler endgame choice. But it seemed like a fun class to play i wanted to start with Wrangler. Did i make a mistake?? And it's starting martial artist bad? I may want to make him a merchant next...
Yeah, starting Martial artist is not ideal since its a class that gets a LOT better late game. Now, its not bad tho, you can just become Monster wrangler then go back to martial artist in the late game. The MW-MA combo is one of the best in the game. You can make a monster of a dps that hits twice per turn and always crits. Merchant has its perks, but its mostly useful to get a good start in terms of gold and comfort. He can summon NPCs in dungeons to heal you or rez your characters. But his perks become less useful the more you advance in the game. Your Monster wrangler can become thief or warrior. And since your priest should obviously be your sage. But these are just recommendations, especially for your MW, you can do anything you want really, just think about what u already have and what you need.
Man, screw these haters in your comments.. like get a life bro. Thx for the info! I started Priest, Mage, Thief. All about 20 now. Any advice on path? Thinking Priest>War>MA Thf>Merch>MW Mage>Sage But im brand new to this game and falling victim to analysis paralysis 😅
Thanks for the positive comment! I like your mage path, simple and efficient. Martial artist is a pure dps class, so maybe make your thief a MW then a MA. And then your priest can be merchant then warrior. (or u can ignore the merchant class) additionaly, if your MW gets the 50 monster passive that allows him to act twice, you can make a beast of a MA in the late game.
@@xMissMaveNx I meant ignore the merchant** class, not priest. Just corrected it. If you didnt start with merchant, there arent many reasons to pick it up. except the service call skill which can be clutch during hard dungeons. If you just started the game, I have 2 tips video that can help you understand the game better!
@acwano lol all good. I did go merchant, went war after service call, my Priest is like one of my biggest hitters now, haha. I'm gonna take my Mage to gadabout just cause I like Bard like classes and then Sage. Might make Priest into 2nd sage with book or stay warrior, not sure yet.
With all this class changing, how much of this is a good idea, simply to get a well-balanced party, and how much of it is just becoming grossly overpowered? I don't want the game to be too easy and end up being boring (as is possible in many JRPG's). Changing classes 2 ~ 3 times seems like you would make overpowered characters that would trivialize the game. Like...just pick the hero, maybe merchant -> warrior or thief, and priest -> sage, mage -> sage.
I'd say a decent rule of thumb would be 1 class change around the midgame, about the time you get the boat. The extra little stats are nice but you wont have to grind too much and collecting the Orbs and tackling Baramos will still be a satisfying challenge. And then *After* Baramos is dealt with and the End/Post game open up you can look to do 1-2 more Swaps to round out Skills and get closer to optimal set ups for the biggest baddest bosses Example: I Started Warrior, Priest, Gadabout - in the early 20s I used my first book and Went Wrangler, Sage, Sage and enjoyed my spell heavy party until Post game where I took some detours to grab skills (Beast mode for everyone, Wrangler to Merchant for their skills then MA for Crits, one Sage to Theif for the big speed and the other Sage back to Gadabout then back to Sage for the Big Magic damage
@@Wizardcleave Ohhh, there's post-game? I didn't know there was any post-game. Hmmm, on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate this difficulty of the game? I know it's basically an older NES game, and simplistic, which tend to be either ridiculously easy or hair-pullingly difficult. I played the original Dragon Warrior on NES and dragon quest 8 and 11. I'm just tired of playing JRPG's that you become so overpowered with only a little grinding and the game becomes trivial.
Well, there's a loooooot of content in the game. And having a better and stronger party means you wont have to grind as much so you wont necessarily be overpowered. Trust me, this game wont be too easy unless you grind for hours and hours to get ultra overlevled. Its brutal😂. And if youre worried, raise the difficulty.
@@acwano Oh, that makes me feel A LOT better, thanks! I was hoping it wasn't going to be another auto-battle fest. I don't even have the game yet, still too busy playing Veilguard. I'll wait for the Autumn sales on Steam to see if there's a discount hehe.
@Wizardcleave thank you. I have asked around and some reddit users said that you should do 4 class changes before beating the game... Im not looking to be OP, games like that can be boring. Im doing 1 class change during the game and considering a second one post game.
Pretty good video, except for the Martial Artist. Does anyone else have any suggestions to what to change a Martial Artist into? And yes, already planning to change my monster wrangler to a sage and maybe to a thief or some other class afterward.
Well, martial artist unlocks his full potential at level 47, when hes able to crit everytime. So if you already class changed once or twice before getting to martial artist, it might as well be your final class. Thats why I consider it a late game class. But if you want suggestions about that. If you wanna transition at level 47, thief or warrior would be a good choice. Thief allows you to use a lot of different weapons and makes you fast as fuck. Warrior makes you tankier. Monster wrangler is also a really good choice, if you havent already transitioned from it to get the 50 monster passive that allows you to act twice per turn. I hope I was able to help.
@@acwano Thanks for the tips. Just was wondering since I started a file with Martial Artist. Well, at least I learn that next time I make a new file to not start to with Martial artist. Now to figure out which class since I also started with a Merchant and Monster Wrangler.
The funny thing is in reality as long as you are willing to grind you can just do everything. The only thing that is ultimately true is if you want this character to be a caster.... make them a sage at the end, period. I will say if you want to make a "fast XYZ" it is better to start as a thief then transfer to the thing, then start as something else then transfer thief. Also Gaddabout is insanely fast to level, it takes like 1.5 hours tops to get one to 20 and that's assuming you just go to the top floor of the tower north of alltrades. Imagine if we you wait until later in the game? You can get to 20 in like sub 1 hour.
Cuz the priest gets a lot of supportive abilities, and the martial artists ideally wants to hit every turn. So its better to make another party member the healer/support. But everything can work in this game, so if you wanna do it, go for it!
Sadly, you need the item or gadabout route everytime you wanna become a sage, so its not recommend to comeback to sage. Wait until you've learned everything useful before you transition off the sage in the end-game, if you want.
I'm kind of interested in turning my Priest into a Warrior, but I'm not sure how much wisdom is required to make her an effective healer. What personality do you recommend for a build like this? Want to ensure she can tank hits and still have mana to heal in a slow mana gain class. Also, how worth it is it to wait for KaZing?
Any personality that you find that boosts wisdom and maybe agility and resilience too would be good. Check your traveller tips. As for kazing, I dont think its worth waiting for it. If im not wrong, the sage learns it too.
With an item called "words of wisdom". The first copy can be found in the tower of transcendence, north of alltrade abbey (the place where u change classes). Go to the top of the tower, walk on the rope with the red flag and jump down on the red flag. Them go down again in the center.
@@acwano after much consideration I think i'm gonna do this Hero Priest lvl 23 > Thief lvl 20> Sage Warrior lvl 21 > Monster Wrangler > Martial Arts Merchant lvl 20 > Thief lvl 20 > Monster Wrangler/Warrior Still debating if i want to try out Warrior for Sword Dancing
YOOOOOO, this one actually looks fire. If the starting thief was merchant, I would consider that perfection, you would get everything. Now, not getting the merchant is not that big of a deal but he did make me a total of like 20k gold before i transitioned away. And his service call skill was clutch a couple times
So, the real question for someone who is new to the DQ. is it worth to level past the 20s before class is changing in the early game? Im at baramos lair and have access to a couple of LMS spots but its still so slow once i get past lvl 30
Yes it could be worth it! I mentioned mage at lvl 21 or priesr at lvl 23. But there is also the Monster wrangler who gets the skill you need with collectible monsters and not levels, so you might wanna wait a lot after 20 if you started with it.
Sadly the fastest way to lv to lv 99 from lv 30 or even lv 50 is to SOLO the LMS's for 40,000 exp a pop if they die without any running away solo only the Hero can't actually damage them easilyl
I think warrior is better as an END point than a start point. Ending as a martial artist doesnt make sense to me since STR isn't as neccesary since a properly built MA by lv 40 should be well over 600 AGI and getting crits every other attack anyway. Better to bring the high agility into the warrior as an end point since the warrior's agility is so god awful. I'd actually go Wrangler to thief to warrior, that way you get the wrangler techs, the high agility and useful assassin stab from the thief (good metal slime killer) and get the high STR boost from a bodybuilder or paragon warrior.
Warrior can be a stepping stone in the middle or an END point. It does very well late game! The path you just mentioned is very good. Shoudlve talked more about warrior as an end point you're right. So many possibilities in this game!
Yup, three exactly. Its just youre only gonna have 1 for the entire early and mid game. Pretty much before flight. So its better to teambuild knowing you'll only get 1 free sage for a while
I wouldn't go out of my way to farm them. It's been enough to have a thief in the early game who can swipe seeds from enemies and easily find them in towns.

@@acwano haha i wish I was creative more of the opposite actualy , i just want to stick with my class and not grind again LOL
My JRPG brain woulve never thought mage or priest into Warrior was a viable strat😂. But it makes sense now thanks. Its my first dragon quest so maybe thats why.
Especially now that all classes have MP.
Glad my video could broaden your horizons!
Almost none of the other Dragon Quest games are like this. Most of the time your party has a preset job.
I like this way better but it’s disliked by a lot of people
@@Kazihirom This is one of the same things DQ has in common with FF. Not every game has preset characters with preset vocations, some do.
this was actually something you'd want to do in the original game, too, funnily enough.
This game is AAA+++ :D
Have fun everyone!
It's funny because I also enjoy level grinding, and find it a soothing way to unwind after a hard day's work.
This video is godsend. You really know this game really well, you even called out the mage nerfed.
I will be using this as a guide in my class switching!
I hope you make more videos on dq3 hd 2d
Thanks for all the comments man! I appreciate it a lot.❤️
Now we need a video which explains what skills/spells are learned - and at what level they're learned - for every vocation. Also heard somewhere that Gadabout gets access to Hustle Dance, but need verification on that lol
Btw, I am going to be doing an Outside the Box thought process for my current playthrough's party, since I'm doing a thematic setup.
Theme: Dragon Quest XI - Erdwin's party
Final plans will be the following:
Erdwin - Hero (Current Class: Duh~) Personality: Paragon (Because fitting)
Serenica - Sage (Current Class: Mage) Personality: Vamp (because it's just too good for a female)
Morcant - Mage (Current Class: Monster Wrangler) Personality: Genius (because fitting, except for when he [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS] in DQXI)
Drustan - Warrior (Current class: Merchant) Personality: Lucky Devil (since fitting in its own way)
I'm a ways away from getting to Alltrades Abbey (Current goal is to fight Robin 'ood for the first time), but I look forward to seeing how things manage from there.
Yeah you can make your sages stronger if you know more about the game. its find though, your party is strong, it should do just fine!
@acwano I actually used the clown class instead of trying to find the book....I hate that class. But I did star a adventure with a female hero so I can vamp with 2 classes after getting the mini medal reward
Gadabout sounds kinda like a slightly more useful magikarp that then evolves into a gyarados at level 20. 😂
hahahahahaha, I LOVE this comparison as big pokemon player😂.
damn true 😂😂😂
Correct and while you can't DIE on Dracky/Easy mode ever NEVER START the game with 3 of them at once that will make the game even MORE Brutal.
Thank you!!! Make more of these guides and tips! I love this game
Yup, I'll make more for sure! Stay tuned.
Started off with Merchant, Priest and Monster Wrangler and even after watching this video scratching my head at what I want to do with each of them. Currently leaning towards:
Merchant > Warrior
Priest > Sage
Monster Wrangler > Martial Artist
Looks insane! Very close to mine
@@acwano What is yours?
Mine is:
Merchant > Thief > Monster wrangler
Priest > warrior > sage
Warrior > Monster wrangler > Martial artist
I might make a detour and grab some mage skills with my thief before MW, since its wisdom stat is decent and having a 2nd spell caster could help (since my hero has a dogshit wisdom stat)
The Priest->Thief->Sage Route I'd what I plan on doing when I get the second book. Fast Support is insane.
yup, pretty good if you didnt start with a pries!
There are at least 3 words of wisdom in the game
If I remember correctly, having or mage or priest change into either the mage or priest also allows them a free change to sage
Not really, only the gadabout has a free switch to sage. These 2 require an item to become a sage, like every other class.
It doesn’t take that long to relevel to 20 near all trade. Don’t be afraid to try new classes. I didn’t think I would like Martial Artist but they ended up in my final team comp
Martial artist is one of the best late game DPS! I'm glad you gave it a try.
@@acwano Always has been too :D
I started with Thief, Mage and Monster Wrangler. Reclassed Mage to Sage, Thief to Warrior, and MW is going to be a Martial Artist as soon as I find 50 monsters. I wasnt sure if I wanted to keep MW the same class until the end but going MA might be better.
That sounds very OP in the end!
That sounds like a really good plan actually. Let me know of the martial healer' performance when you play more with it!
I played the updated version on the Nintendo switch before the 3D version came out. I did not know that this was a function in the game where stuff that you earned in one class would carry over. I was never aware of the properties of being able to create a magic warrior or a healing monk I was under the impression that as soon as you change your class you get a completely new skill tree and the main goal was to turn your hero into a sage and have a priest and mage on your team still
Well, now you know!! have fun mixing learnsets
I went with
LV 20 Thief -> Sage so I have a pretty speedy caster
LV 37 Priest -> Warrior for the tanky healer. Since the Warrior is the slowest character, they can be used for healing, reviving, debuffs in the final turn. So it's like a safety after a boss does huge damage after the Sage + Martial Artist does their initial casting.
My priest reached LV 37 before getting the final Orb (with some grinding )
LV 30ish Mage -> LV 37 Priest -> Martial Artist - speedy caster (w/o the best Mage spells but can still doe midrange AOE damange if required but can heal and buff, and debuff quickly).
At this point the Martial Artist class change already happened right before jumping to the 2nd world.
I waited LV 37 priest since that's when they learn Kazing
I always pull
Merchant>Sage
Priest>Mage>Fighter
Fighter>Priest>Mage>Warrior
Really min/maxs the party pretty well.
Its always nice to have a Sage just now level 15 and have a HUGE MP pool at 278.
So do you use a book to give your merchant the sexy/vamp personality, too?

Yeah, so many possibilities. I love this class system.
A recommendation is to *stick to a class and learn everything from it before changing*
Yes, some skills take a long time to learn but they can be a game changer
Priests learn *Kazing* as the last spell, guaranteed revive at full health
Mages learn *Morph* which lets the user mimic another party member in terms of stats, skills and equipment
And Thieves learn *Backdraft* which repels one breath attack for one turn
And much more, up to you to get all abilities for the achievement trophy (for non-Switch users 😅)
If youre planning to make your priest into a sage, you dont need to wait so many levels for kazing since sage learns it too at some point.
But overall, I agree with your advice!
Sucks they have abilities well into the mid 40s which basically completely discourages changing classes before post game.
Three total
Yes, I did know. But the 2nd one is kinda late into the game for some people who want two sages in their party as soon as the mid-game starts. But I did forget to mention that in the video so thanks for sharing!
I have found 3.
I’ve found 3. There’s the one in the Tower of Transcendence as usual… but SPOILERS:
One is only accessible by Ramia, hidden inside a secret spot located in the mountains around Khoryv, it’s pretty easily visible on the map
The other is inside a house in Rimuldar, at the very top-right corner of the house you can find it
@@littleguystar rimuldar is the other one I meant! Thanks I couldn't remember it at all, but didn't realize they had a third! Very cool
Just finished the game earlier. Gonna go for all merchant in the next save file.

Its doable as long as its on DRACKY mode only since its only attack move Call Army is pure CRAP even if you have loads of Gold to use bosses barely take damage from it IF at all.
Also, can you change back to being a previous class ? Let's say you prefer the sprite after getting whatever skills/abilities you want elsewhere?
Absolutely! you can always go back for free as long as youre level 20 and not a sage. if you wanna go back to sage you need an item of which there is only 3 copies or become a gadabout.
@@acwanoSuper, thanks a ton!
regarding the monster collecting, once you caught 50 monsters, does that mean all your future monster wrangler users automatically get the skills to act twice? I think you only need to find your 50th monster once, and all future instance of monster wrangler user will have that act twice skill.
Yup, thats correct!
Thank for the vid i was struggle to know which class pick
Glad I was able to help!
Hey love your video ! What is for you the best team to start and with wich weapons !
Thank you for your answer !
Thanks for the support!
Best team to start with for me is priest + Merchant + A dps of your choice except Martial artist (better late game). Here is an example of a good path:
Priest -> Thief -> sage
Merchant -> monster wrangler -> Martial
mage -> Warrior -> sage/monster wrangl
You can mix them up but you get the idea. Martial artist, sage, monster wrangler, and even warrior are good classes for the late game.
@ Thanks so much !
And for example if i go priest -> lvl 24 i change for thief. Do I go for sage when this thief is lvl 20 or i have to make him xp a bit more ?
You can change as soon as youre lvl 20 for thief! Start nurturing your sage asap since they require a LOT of exp.
Thats a very good path! But im a big fan of Monster wrangler intro Martial artist. To create a broken dps that can attack twice.
I think about this a lot but i'm so bad at math, but I know there's a golden path here
I hope you find that golden bath🫡
Thank you for these dragon quest videos. I subscribed. Keep it up
I appreciate it man! I have no intention to stop anytime soon😤
I was planning to start as a Martial Artist the go to Thief for Nose of treasure and then Warrior, is a good plan or is better start as a Warrior ?
Way better to start as warrior or thief than Martial in my opinion. Martials take a lot to level and shine the most when they get their crazy guaranteed crit passive at lvl 47. So its a late game class
I did mage -> gada-> sage
Priest -> merchant -> wrangler -> sage.
Warrior -> thief -> ma -> back to warrior.
After this video I'm thinking to transition that warrior into a wrangler and MAYBE back to MA if I want to. I really want a wrangler
I'm lucky I love grinding, I was planning on having Hero
PM1 = monster wrangler -> thief -> warrior -> martial artist
PM2 = priest -> monster wrangler -> gadabout -> sage
PM3 = thief -> merchant -> warrior -> monster wrangler
The extra class transition is mostly for stat growth, even tho it's fairly easy to grind seeds in this game
By then, the 3 others will be able to carry the leveling with crits or assassin's stabs on king metal slimes and LMS
Yeah I was about to ad that but my merchant took forever to learn it so I recommended to just swap at lvl 20 right away.
level your party to atleast lv20 then add one gadabout to level and turn into a sage
My current team in dq3 hd 2d remake are hero, warrior, mage and cleric but who should i change the other 3 guys of my team to
Anything you want really!
Thx didn't find much help on this.
Priest>thief(speed)>sage
Mage>Warrior?
Thief> Figher?
This all i got tho.
@@acwano thanks for the response and very helpful video!
Prioritize what you want!
i started with thief, preist and beast wrongler, what class should i advance to with thief and beast wrongler
@@acwano thank u i just figured that out right after posting the comment😭thanks for all the content ur making its helping a lot
@@realitysurf. No problem bro, always here to help.
@ oh btw, how long do you think it'll take to reach those 50 monsters collected? About what level were you at when you reached that
Do you recommend priest>mage>gad>SAGE?
yeah why not, but you dont nees gad if you find the books.
Now keep in mind that once you make someone a sage, its better for them to stay as a sage until the very late game when they've learned everything they need from the class, you cant switch out and in of sage cuz you need the item everytime and there is only 3 copies of it in the game (and 2 of them are found late in the game)
As for your martial artist. Monster wrangler, thief or warrior are all good choices. The best being MW in my opinion, for the act twice passive. I personally would go back to martial waaay later in the game (cuz of the garanteed crit passive at lvl 47). That way, you make the ultimate DPS.
@@acwano Thanks for replying, what should i do with Martial Artist you think? Monster Wrangler? I'm so scared to change one... lol
I went with Warrior, Mage and Priest. What would be the best recommendation for my team?
Mage into sage for ultimate spellcaster, Priest into thief for a fast healer and usedful overworld skills. And warrior into Monster wrangler until you collect 50 monsters (for the act twice skill) then transition again into a martial artist in the late game for the ultimate dps. Those are my recommendations, but remember, the most important thing is to have fun!
Your thief healer could also become a second sage later in the game when you get the 2nd copy of the item necessary to transition into a sage (words of wisdom).
@@acwanothank you so much
does the character sprite stay the same when u change them? please tell me yes i dont wanna make them look different
I did mention that yes. But Aint no way im grinding one to lvl 45🤣. Let me know if you do and if you think its worth it!
@@acwano I am a trophy junkie, of course it's worth it!!
If I grind one to level 45, can I still freely change them into a sage? Or it has to be a level 20?
@@LilGian1 it's like any other class, the "level 20" thing is just to enable the character to change classes.
But at the same time while you can't DIE in Dracky/Easy mode by games end I find even Kafrizzle the best attack spell to be pure CRAP In boss fights EVEN WITH the lv 45 Gadabout skill.
Just get wild side on everyone including your sage :) I make everyone a monster wrangler at some point to get it.
hahahahaha youre not wrong. If i was playing on hard difficulty I would definitely do that. But I like having diverse paths.
My merchant became thief, then a martial artist, to a warrior now, going to end up monster wrangler.
Damn, 5 classes? If you dont mind the grinding, it makes for a crazy party member. Enjoy the late game!
@@acwano in other dq i never change class whiout masster all the skills first and master alll the classes, so stupid when you only need to master to change to hero and destry all
There are 3 words of wisdom in this version as well so all 3 of your support characters can become a sage at some point.
indeed! In the late game that is.
Can you change classes more than two times as well?
Yup, you can! If yoy have the patience to level up a character 4 times.
NONE EXCEPT BOTH learn their FINAL move around lv 48,
Thanks a lot for the support!
What's your thought on me starting with martial artist with the intent to change into thief first and finish with warrior?
I'm sure it gets the job done but im not a big fan to be honest with you. Martial artist is a class that truly shines in the late game when their crits are garanteed (lvl 47) and they have ways to deal insane damage.
i have a general question, ill use martial artist and monster wrangler for arguments sake:
is there a difference in any way if you start with martial artists and transition into monster wrangler compared to start with monster wrangler and transition into martial artists?
Yes absolutely, ending with a martial artist is a lot better. For 2 main reasons:
-Martial artists are slow to lvl up, so like the sage, theyre better to grab later
-They unlock their full potential at lvl.47 when they get the ability to crit every time.
You could do, for example:
MW->MA
Thief->MW->MA
Merchant->MW->MA
(you could go back to MA after learning the crit passive if you want, but that requires some grinding)
Thief (33) => Martial Artist (47) => Merchant (36) => Monster Wrangler (44) => Warrior (48) => Gadabout (45) => Sage
I thought the personality decides the stats. Does class also affect the stats too?
Say if I have a warrior with vamp, a thief with vamp. At level 10, will both characters have the same stat due to having vamp personality?
The class affects stat growth as well
Each vocation has it's own internal growth rates for each stat. Your personality adds a multiplier that modifies those baseline growth rates.
Yup, the class affects the growth rate of every stat, and by a lot sometimes. Personality then adds some multipliers.
and it could possiby Determine your LV up rate based on personality so on the Switch collection of DQ 1 to 3 I had the Vamp one on a FEMALE Hero hit lv 2 faster then using a lv 2 Female Hero with the TOUGH Guy Personality.
if i change the class of my thief to a monster wrangler, do I still retain the ability to steal enemy drops after a fight?
or is this passive ability tied to class?
Nope, the passives that are not in your skill/ability list are not transferable. Only thiefs can steal items and only merchants can get you double money sometimes.
In your opinion, what are the level each class should get to before the transation?
I mentioned a level for every class! I pinned the timestamps if you want to know about a class in particular
Super helpful thank you
I'm glad it helped!
Buff and Kabuff alone makes Mages not obsolete sir!!! Robbin Ood can hit hard especially playing on Draconian Quest difficulty.
kabuff is good but the sage learns it very early...
Wait, you can change a character's class? You don't have to recruit someone new?
Nope! This game is all about classe changing, you keep your skills and half your stats so you can kinda mix classes together, pretty fun!
You unlock this feature when you reach a place called alltrade abbey, which is northeast of baharata, you'll see when you get there. Enjoy party composition!
@acwano that's awesome! I don't remember being able to do that in the old version.
So you can only do this when you get to level 20
Yup, class changing is only available after lvl.20 at a place called alltrades abbey
If I transition the monster wrangler does his move that gets stronger with the more monsters I find still keep getting stronger or no?
Yup, it does!
To chime in, later on you can grind skill seeds to help with polishing out your stats to mix in conjunction with class changing!
What about a mage transitioned into thief for that first strike capability?
Oh, 100% recommend. Fast (thief) or tanky (warrior) mage is pretty good.
I wonder if it’s a good idea to have warrior be your start and end class like: Warrior > Merchant > Monster Wrangler > Warrior
Does this sound viable?
Absolutely, yeah. Now, repeating a class will create a party member with less skills. But if you have 2 classes in between you should be fine. Now, keep in mind that doing this will require some extra grinding. The warrior is a great starting AND end point!
@@acwanooh nice! I don’t mind grinding in DQs I think it’s therapeutic, thanks!
Have fun man! I hope you enjoyed the vid.
Is it viable to not change class at all ?
hmmmm, you would be nerfing youself a lot ngl. But its probably doable, depends what u mean by "viable"
@acwano goal is just to clear all the bosses in the game
I guess
Will probably require more grinding than usual since the stats buffs u get from class changing are pretty considerable. Not counting the extra skills that also help. If you like your current party, you can always bring them back to their original class after getting lvl.20 with the 2nd one.
@@acwano Ic thanks for the replies dude
@@acwano Thank you so much. The advice really helps!
Im glad i was able to help!
Man, screw these haters in your comments.. like get a life bro. Thx for the info!

Priest>War>MA
Thf>Merch>MW
Mage>Sage
But im brand new to this game and falling victim to analysis paralysis 😅
Thanks for the positive comment!
I like your mage path, simple and efficient. Martial artist is a pure dps class, so maybe make your thief a MW then a MA. And then your priest can be merchant then warrior. (or u can ignore the merchant class)
additionaly, if your MW gets the 50 monster passive that allows him to act twice, you can make a beast of a MA in the late game.
@@acwano thx for the reply! I'll give that a shot! :D
And then *After* Baramos is dealt with and the End/Post game open up you can look to do 1-2 more Swaps to round out Skills and get closer to optimal set ups for the biggest baddest bosses
Example: I Started Warrior, Priest, Gadabout - in the early 20s I used my first book and Went Wrangler, Sage, Sage and enjoyed my spell heavy party until Post game where I took some detours to grab skills (Beast mode for everyone, Wrangler to Merchant for their skills then MA for Crits, one Sage to Theif for the big speed and the other Sage back to Gadabout then back to Sage for the Big Magic damage
Thinking of going the warrior route with my martial artist after he becomes level 47. For Merchant, the thief class and Monster Wrangler to sage.
Is there a reason you don’t recommend priest -> martial artist?
Cuz the priest gets a lot of supportive abilities, and the martial artists ideally wants to hit every turn. So its better to make another party member the healer/support. But everything can work in this game, so if you wanna do it, go for it!
I've asked on so many vids but can a character that has been a Sage always turn back into a Sage or do you need the item everytime?
Sadly, you need the item or gadabout route everytime you wanna become a sage, so its not recommend to comeback to sage. Wait until you've learned everything useful before you transition off the sage in the end-game, if you want.
The image of the a merchant looks like if Marle had red hair.
@acwano Thanks!! Might just keep the garter on her and go vamp. Hopefully the armor is enough!
Actually Charmer could be good post job change!
Thats good yeah, Vamp is very good for every class in the game.
2:33 how do you instantly turn your priest into a sage?
There is an item that lets you turn a single ally into a sage without going through gadabout.
With an item called "words of wisdom". The first copy can be found in the tower of transcendence, north of alltrade abbey (the place where u change classes). Go to the top of the tower, walk on the rope with the red flag and jump down on the red flag. Them go down again in the center.
Out of curiosity before i plan and map out my class routes, i was curious about how many personality items do we end up getting to change?
Idk the exact number, but quite a lot honestly, some for every role (healer, magic caster, fighter, tank, all rounder)
@@acwano after much consideration I think i'm gonna do this

YOOOOOO, this one actually looks fire. If the starting thief was merchant, I would consider that perfection, you would get everything. Now, not getting the merchant is not that big of a deal but he did make me a total of like 20k gold before i transitioned away. And his service call skill was clutch a couple times
Anyone know how to tell how many Friendly Monsters you have found?
Just zoom back to Romaria and head to the monster arena. Over there talk to the old man who taught you about docile monsters.
I think there's a tab in the misc option called info that will tell you how many monsters you've saved.
There are at least 3 words of wisdom in the game.
Yup, three exactly. Its just youre only gonna have 1 for the entire early and mid game. Pretty much before flight. So its better to teambuild knowing you'll only get 1 free sage for a while
Somebody @me please. Whats the ultimate ohysical dps trial look like?
Wdym by trial?
Are stat seeds farmable or finite?
they are technically farmable later in the game. But i dont recommend abusing that or the game will become too easy
I wouldn't go out of my way to farm them. It's been enough to have a thief in the early game who can swipe seeds from enemies and easily find them in towns.
There is a second Words of Wisdom in a secret area near Khoryv but only accessible once you get flight
Yup! Its kinda late, thats why you usually only have 1 free sage in the early mid game.
Actually stat increases from seeds are not lost in the remake when class changing.
Yup! that was an important point in my previous video, go check it out if you want more content!
