I saw a woman who was thin. Her abdomen was getting bigger, and she was told, repeatedly, she was getting fat. Finally a doctor believed her when she looked massively pregnant. She had an ovarian cyst so big it filled a surgical basin. She had a big abdominal surgery because U.S. doctors ignored her.
Maybe I'm old school medicine, before HMOs. We'd see someone in the ER with a complaint. Do a basic evaluation, you find nothing, you send them home. If they returned to the ER within 3 days with the same, or worse, they were an automatic admit to medicine (unless a surgical problem was evident.) for formal evaluation.
It's become very clear to me in my mid 60s that your average family doctor is the guy that got the bad grades in medical school and couldn't do any better than becoming a family doctor. We've lived in over 11 states spanning from OR to CT and I've had many misdiagnoses. They are usually arrogant and they just don't listen! I hate going to the doctor and I have to because of medical issues.
@@chocomojo9552 I live in Canada and we do have universal health care. When I get sick and am hospitalized, I do not have to worry about a huge hospital bill and I feel we get the best of care. Maybe if that gentleman had of gotten the correct diagnosis from the beginning, he might of had a better outcome in the OR.
@@caroljeanscott5571 yes. But you also have very long waiting lists so it's a double edged sword. A bunch of Canadian RUclipsrs complain about it, which I find funny.
My dad had scrotum the doubled in size, his doctor sent him to Yale and found cancer. They removed in scrotum and all was good. 100 points for the doctor.
It’s always the first thing doctors say without investigating the cause. I’m an RN and hear it being said to patients When I had a large benign abdominal tumor and went to the ER for unrelated issue, the ER doctor tried to blame my issue on my abdominal girth. I was there for a severe ear ache. I had to humiliate him. I told him about my upcoming surgery to have the growth removed and that I was pleased that he wasn’t my surgeon and that he needed to improve his bedside manner. I was harsh with the survey that I received. I will never be silent when I hear a doctor blame an illness on weight. My surgery was a success. My pre surgery weight was only 135 pounds
I have 35 pounds of breast tissue and get constantly nagged to lose weight. I was the recommended weight if I calculated without the breast weight. I got a hysterectomy and put on weight and finally needed to lose.
Good on you! I have lipedema and I've had a lot of shit out of doctors because of my weight. Luckily, my GP totally knows what I've done to try and lose weight, and finally I had a plastic surgeon take me on. But man, the lippy communty gets it bad. There is a "joke" that you could get impaled in a car accident, go to the ER, and the ER doc would say, yah, you need to lose weight and that will clear right up!
@katiesimpson8517 l agree as l'm a Retired Nurse and l don't put up with Shit from no Dr no matter what! When l need help l call my cousin whom is a Educated Dr for help. He validates my information!!😢
I got chicken pox at 23. The random inner city clinic doctor tried to come at me about my weight. I told Dr. Socks with Birkenstocks to write the antiviral prescription I needed and go back to the suburbs. Had I felt slightly better I'd have caused a scene. The nurse was great though. She gasped when she came in the room the first time (I looked like a movie monster.) She covered with "I was surprised to see an adult." I appreciated the effort.
As an obese person the lazy answer from a doctor to EVERYTHING is lose weight. I was in the ER for a dislocated shoulder because tripped walking up stairs and I was told to lose weight. Please put my shoulder back in the socket then we can talk about my weight.
My husband is 6'2" and weighs 175 pounds. His doctor also told him to lose weight. He was an active, very thin man that rode his bike extensively. My husband was mid 60s. I'm an RN. That advice was not followed. And he soon had a new doctor. Mine.
when i had a stroke instead of taking care of it they sent me home with 1 g of paracetamol. they said the only thing wrong w me is being overweight. no tests no nothing. i also head a headache which is why they gave me the paracetamol. learn how to use your left body on your own cuz u overweight and should technically be healthy enought for it not to happen with unter 25 i guess lol
I had my doctor tell me to lose weight because I'm 300lb and said I should be 160lb. The problem is I had my muscle to body fat measured. I have about 200lb of muscle and bone as my minimum. It's impossible for me to get to that weight the doctor wants me at. The only real fat I have on my body is my stomach.
Unfortunately Dan passed away earlier this year due to heart failure :( I am glad he was finally able to get the help he needed and deserved. Too many doctors are fatphobic and assume all symptoms/problems are because of someone being overweight when that is not always the case
Doctors aren’t “fat phobic” for saying to loose weight, as yes in this situation something more as at play and I don’t understand how no real doctor could have figured that out. However many doctors don’t dislike for weight and being overweight genuinely has bad health complications of course I believe the doctors should have done more other than say to loose weight but thats not all doctors and often even if a symptom isn’t caused by the weight it can makes things worse or more complicated. But either way R.I.P Dan
@@shivertheiguana The term fatphobic is referring to many doctors just tossing 'lose weight' as a fix to issues before actually taking any in-depth looks at the patient. It doesn't mean that they automatically hate fat patients, it just means there's a bias in the medical field where many doctors will just make the assumption that the patient's issues are strictly because they're fat.
@@anexpiredyogurt4818 as I said sadly doctors like that exist and this stuff will happen and in all fairness a good majority of the time weight can can many issues and of course doctors need to take a deep look which some don’t but in their defense any many cases its a versatile possible solution but them again this case was just several doctors neglecting to do more digging most of the time saying to loose weight is a fair bet in this however they essentially tries to pick a circle block in a square hole
@@anexpiredyogurt4818 especially when it is something that really isn’t effected by size/weight. Foreign object in your eye? …Lose weight. Concussion from being in a car accident? …Lose weight. If someone went to see a doctor with pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea etc and weight lose was suggested it would be logical but when it is suggested in cases like I mentioned above it is discriminatory and dangerous 😢
It's sad knowing he still passed away young, but I think the surgery increased his quality of life substantially. You never know when someone's last day will be and it's good to know you left someone's life a little better than you found it
Last known record of him alive was in March/April of this year so I don't know which month you are referring to when he supposedly passed. If it is true that he passed, the guy was pretty heavy weighing over 300lbs so it wouldn't surprise me if he had complications due to diabetes, maybe blood clots after surgery, issues from being overweight... It can be anything really. Who knows how he passed (if it's true). All we can do is offer condolences to the family for their loss.
Poor guy, nerve damage is rough. I suffered debilitating nerve damage after my spinal fusion (for scoliosis) that made walking so, so painful. Thankfully I made a full recovery after a year and no longer have nerve pain. I do have lingering numbness around my lower abdomen and back, but I can handle that! I hope this man recovers as well as I did.
That's true. My mom fought doctors for years about her painful menstrual cramps, and they would just tell her to lose weight. She lost weight, but the pain persisted. Turns out she had severe endometriosis that spread so far, she needed a full hysterectomy.
Yes. I have chronic neck pain since a car accident decades ago. Many years ago, I saw one doctor who told me he'd prescribe an MRI. IF I lost 50 pounds first. Then he tried to sell me his meal replacement shakes. 😡
@InternetD There's not much that can be done for my neck pain medically, I just have to manage it. But I have a better doctor now. One that tries to help me with my weight without shaming me or blaming all my problems on weight.
That is SO true. It's even more amazing when it's done by a new doc regarding something that's been a documented problem since long before weight was ever an "issue". I have chronic neck and back pain due to degenerative disc disease, several herniated discs, spinal stenosis, vacuum disc phenomenon and rheumatoid arthritis. This all started in my 20s, when I was a skinny little thing. I didn't really gain any weight until I tore the labrum in both of my hips at 39 and was completely ignored/not believed until this year, at 41. Not being able to walk and do the things I used to do caused about 100lbs of weight gain. My new (and now ex) primary care doctor tried to blame 21 years of pain, and ALL of those issues, on my weight. The conversation with her was so ... Nasty and disheartening. I walked out of there feeling just awful about myself.
Medical fatphobia is a real problem. There is a story about a woman who had a cough that wouldn't go away. Docs kept telling her to lose weight. She did, but the cough was still there. Come to find out, she had lung cancer
depending on their size, some people are just too fat to fit in a normal MRI/CT machine and often times get (literally) sent to a zoo that has the technology to handle large animals
@skills7071 would you be surprised to hear that most people are NOT too fat to fit in a normal MRI but are still dismissed with "lose weight" anyway? or that there are ways to diagnose lung cancer besides an MRI? 🙄
@@skills7071 I'm considered overweight, same with my husband, and I assure you we both fit in an MRI just fine. We've both had MRI's. My husband, multiple (Stroke survivor)
I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with hydradentitis suppurativa. Ever since my early teens I was getting multiple pung ping sized cysts in my thighs. 🫠 There is nothing more confidence boosting when you have cysts in your thighs at 16. Or when you're dating your future husband in your 20s and you're mortified for anything because you have 7 giant, oozing pussy cysts. My doctor's conclusion: lose weight, have better hygiene. Which even at my smallest I would get them. I was constantly washing, exfoliating, lotioning, anything I thought would clear my thighs up. I tried acne products on my thighs, I tried masks, oils, deodorant because maybe I was too sweaty. I tried antibacterial soap. And my period would make them so much worse and so much more painful. 2 years ago I finally changed OBGYN because my PCP retired and also refused to see me when I ran out of birth control 🫠 I was finishing up dental hygiene school, had 3 months left with finals and large projects due plus national exams and 130% of my time was school. My doctor was 40 minutes away from where I lived and notoriously an hour behind. I went to refill my bc and they cut me off because I was due for my PAP. That's fine, I'll come in may when everything is done. No. They refused to work with me, forced me to schedule in April. Which the day of my appointment I ended up having to work in our clinic and called to reschedule ahead of time. Because if I don't work in clinic and have so many hours of patient time I don't graduate. They told me they would give me 1 more months of birth control but don't come back because I'm being too difficult. 🫠 So I made an appointment with this new OBGYN. She looks at my thighs tells me this isn't hygiene. This is genetic. Go see a dermatologist. She gave me a referral to one. She then looks at my thighs and at this point I've had one cysts that was constantly filling and draining and not healing and thought I had some horrific boil or cancer. She tells me nope. It's HS. 1 oral antibiotic and a topical antibiotic later and my thighs are scarred to high heavens but the clearest they have ever looked in my entire life. 😭😭😭😭 If I want I can have the scars lazered off but she did tell me they may come back due to the amount of cysts I've had and the amount of tunneling in my skin. Regardless I feel so much better about them because I don't have several oozing cysts. Now they're maybe 1-3 around my period and no bigger than a marble. 😭😭😭😭 Fuck doctors who fat shame. And it's such a bummer they don't listen. Even as a teen I knew something wasn't right in my body. Which also found out my dad has it and it affects his back and armpits. 🤷🏼♀️ Go figure. Thanks for reading my medical novel for those who made it this far. And side note. I currently work as a hygienist and validate feelings in my chair and always urge for second and third opinions from doctors/advocating for yourself. And I'm not right all the time either. 🤷🏼♀️ But I absolutely try my best to hear my patients. It's not always just stress or being fat.
@@SS40-nah to be fair, these days it’s the hospital/heath system admins setting the prices, not the doctors. Everyone must serve The Board and the Shareholders.

I watched this entire documentary, and he was SO happy (and - relieved) after his surgery, I was very very sad when I read he died from a heart attack only 9 month's later... :(
It’s a tragedy that in the US, insurance companies seem to have the final say on what is deemed “elective” or medically necessary, even more so that a DOCTOR couldn’t diagnose what many of us Dr. Youn fans (with no medical training!) could spot. My 1st thought was lymphedema! “Lose weigh”? WTF?
absolutely. and don't even get me started on dental and how it's not even included in medical insurance and pretty much everything is considered "cosmetic" so not covered anyway.
Yeah. My first thought was lymphatic filariasis given the size, and while I’m a MAJOR nerd, I don’t know how a medical professional can look at an 100lb scrotum and not want to investigate (and maybe also write a paper for a journal lol).
Yes exactly. America has the most shocking attitude to its sick and infirm. A marble hospital one goes into then don’t marvel. You are paying and the top end cars, homes, schools and housing for the doctors, who are quite frankly inadequate.
Poor man, what a ghastly disorder. Nerve damage is no joke. My husband of 35 years has a progressive type of neuropathy and we haven’t had marital relations for going on 10 years. It’s only lately he can joke about it. I’ve always told him I married him not his penis and I’d rather have him and go without that not have him as he is my life.
you're an awesome person! thanks for sharing..and I've never heard of women leaving a man for this reason..well nobody my age..mb cuz I've had all the children I need and sex was just a reward from me to him lol..
My husband had prostrate surgery in 2004. We haven’t had relations since then. Like you, I told him I wanted him with me not just for the sex. It’s terrible on their ego though but we’ve made it through and will celebrate 50 years married next year.
What's amazing is that the scrotum skin can even stretch that big. It's a miracle the skin doesn't break and the fluid doesn't just burst out on its own.
If you had ever closely looked at a scrotum you would see it's composition. It is a different kind of skin, made to stretch. Like a cow's udder, almost.
my husband developed edema this year from not dealing with his hair failure. what finally made him go back to the dr and on his meds was when his boys started swelling too. he said it was like the south park episode where randy gets cancer and is bouncing around town on them. my husbands only got to be the size of a grapefruit. i cant imagine these boys!
I remember that episide of South Park. The guys were wheeling their scrotums around with wheelbarrows. It was so funny. But must be terrible in real life.
My wife had liver cancer, that swelled her abdomen, she was told just to lose weight. She went to the doctor and ER, a dozen time over the years and, they said just lose weight, maybe some arthritis, or you're just getting old. She went to a friggen NATUROPATH (for christ sakes) who diagnosed cancer, possible liver cancer in 5 minutes, and PERSONALY took her to the ER. They took tests and tissue samples and once they figures out it was actually breast cancer that was in her liver, legs and feet and head brain. After that day, she lived for a week and six days.
@ptp949 Thank you .. With all this technology, maybe they'll come up with an Artificial Intelligence Robot, that will not use opinion or personal bias to evaluate patients?
As a patient of U of M heath with a dozen specialists myself, this is both surprising and not at all surprising. They have amazing doctors and some absolute shit doctors. Its hit or miss.
I'm with you on that one. I live in New Zealand & my local public hospital is essentially bankrupt. In January 2023 started having seizures again after 12 years without them & although I'm on the very urgent list I can't get an appointment to see my specialist & GP's can no longer request MRIs (It must be the consultant who requests it). I've been told not to expect either of these appointments much before the end of the year as the government is only funding the public services at my local hospital on a month-by-month basis which only just covers acute admissions & not much else.& I don't qualify for private medical insurance. But this guy in the story is doing better. Good on him.

While there are many, many people who need to lose weight, it is sad that doctors immediately say that, and don't take the time to see WHY and that it might not be weight related. I really feel bad for Dan.
A lot of time its like how they sell it. Looks like a lot of doctors are completely disconnected from their patients. A lot of issues are weight related but once you get those problems, they need to be treated before the patient can think about changing his lifestyle. Preoperative weight loss is another topic with a similar challenge as well. Even if it seems that the issue is more relevant in America, i can tell you that in Germany we have the same problem. If you're chubby or more, you might need to change your doctor/specialist until you find one willing to do some bloodwork, xrays ect before casting the general " loose some weight". At least here it doesn't cost you thousands of dollar, but time is still wasted. My last experience in that matter for me was way too high dosed medication that made me tired and unmotivated to the point i didn't do much anymore. I had to change twice the specialist until i finally found someone not directly playing the weight card, fixed the issue, then motivated me to work on my weight.
I have had to re-teach myself how to walk twice in my life. Nerve damage from dvt and smashed ankle currently. My heart goes out to him as it is by far one of the most difficult emotionally and physically to have to go through.
Wow that's crazy, I hope you have a swift recovery. One question, is it that you've forgotten how to walk? Or does your body not cooperate, with your mind? Ive always been curious about that kind of thing. I hope you make progress each day 👍🙂
@@meowmeow8422 it's more of a cooperation thing. Mentally I know how to walk but my legs don't want to do what my brain tells it to. Thanks for the well wishes. It's a battle for sure.
Trust me - when you're really fat, it can be really hard to get a doctor who cares enough to say anything but, "Lose weight." I've had that suggestion automatically made almost literally every time I walk into a doctor's office. Like... no shit... first meeting: "Hello. Oh, you're a bit big, aren't you? Are you here about losing weight?" ... **has sinus infection**
My doctor walked in and was like "do you want a referral for a gastric bypass?" (Without even saying hi). I said no and she was like "you don't even want to think about it?" And I'm just like... no? That's not what I'm here for?
This is why I haven't gone to an orthopedic doctor about my hip pain. Until I lose more weight, I know they'll just tell me to lose weight to get pressure off my joint.
Our slim daughter has bad knees from a lot of sport as a kid. She's in her 40s now. Whenever she sees a doctor about knee pain, she's told to lose weight. Nobody wants to investigate her knees, or refer her to a specialist
Yea but at the same time the fact is that Obesity IS very often the main cause of many comorbidities. Even though that's not 100% and doctors should ask more questions
@@Max-px5ym I don't argue with that. What I do take issue with is the assumption that everything that's wrong with you -- particularly as a woman -- stems from your weight. In some cases, your weight stems from other issues that are affecting your mobility, for example. I say to healthcare professionals ... don't be lazy. Don't make assumptions. Do your job.
When I was a student nurse first year at UNMC, I took care of a guy who had end stage HIV. His scrotum was the size of a LARGE basketball. He was a young guy also an alcoholic, a fellow nurse and I had to give him a rectal enema. He expressed how he throughly enjoyed us dealing with his impaction. He passed before our clinicals were over.
Typical doctor diagnosis when they don’t know what’s wrong with someone: “You need to lose weight.” My Crohn’s disease went undiagnosed until I was 32 because I had so much inflammation it caused weight gain. I’d had symptoms since I was a toddler. Literally almost died from internal bleeding.
The lack of his doctors to figure this out is appalling! My sympathies. I have a small amount of lymphedema in my lower legs post cancer surgery from removal of lymph nodes and radiation. This is a no fun condition even when slight.
I can't imagine the complications from a 16 hour surgery. For example, my Acoustic Neuroma surgery lasted 8 hours, and I ended up with a massive blister on the end of my tongue and another on the roof of my mouth. After eight years, I still have no feeling on the tip of my tongue.
My bf had a manscaping accident and got a MRSA infection in his scrotum. Over the course of 2 days it attained the size of a basketball. He had an allergic reaction to the first antibiotic he was given. His skin turned red and started to slough off. Our rural hospital took 3 days to figure out that wasn't normal. He recovered and no longer manscapes.
One of the reasons why I don’t miss back home . A doctor sees that you are slightly overweight and any problems you are having , they lazily just attribute it to being fat . It’s really sad how bad my school has went down ; I’m a 2x graduate of The University of Michigan . They used to be world renown at solving mysterious medical cases , but my mother has been dealing with a blood issue and they haven’t really helped. My family and I are all alumni of U of M , so the love will always be there . Anyways , I wonder if Dan filed a lawsuit ? They really could’ve been responsible especially if he can prove that a few simple test by them could’ve found out sooner 😢 ❤
I’m not surprised by this… A lot of doctors blow off things and said it’s another, simple explanation. Back in 2006, I had pain in one section of my abdomen for months. It just felt like someone was pinching me in the same little spot constantly. Nothing I did worked. So I go to see a GI doctor that my GP referred me to about this annoying pain. It was literally, “Your have IBS, take these pills,” very gruff, like I was wasting his time. Long story short, the pills gave me the runs so I had to stop them. Good thing… Month or two later, my husband had to rush me to the ER at 3:30/4 in the morning. I had this massive ovarian cyst ( the thing that was causing the discomfort I’d been having for months) and didn’t know it until its shifting caused my ovary to twist and rupture. I still waited 7 hours to go to the ER because I kept blowing it off as something else (my monthly) but the pain became excruciating. I was terrified because the pain at that point (bleeding internally) was immeasurable and I had no idea what was wrong. I had to go in for emergency surgery to have the ovary removed. The cyst came out in one piece but my ovary was a shredded mess. They managed to save the rest, but still, the docs all ignored me when I said it wasn’t what they thought. A year later, same thing. I pushed my GYN for tests and they found a cyst on the other one, but it was small. I’m sure the other one was, too. The pain was getting worse and I was afraid to lift at my job (that’s what caused the chain of events where the first one torsioned) so I insisted on a laparoscopy. Good thing I did… The cyst was wrapped around a main vein and was squeezing it. I would have had another torsion had I not opted for that laparoscopy. It was 4 days short of being one year to the day after I lost the first one. This October, I’ll be post menopausal 17 years. The while thing was a nightmare, all because doctors blew things off.
I had one of the panniculectomy sugeries about 12 years ago. They took out 80lbs of infected lymphnodes from my belly area. It took 6 months to fully heal and at one point they had a wound pump on me and someone left a sponge inside the wound and it healed around it and later festered out. I have another problem now, my mound area has lymphodema. I don't think it's getting any larger but it is annoying to deal with on top of my other problems.
My husband is fat, and you would be surprised at how much of his health problems, that existed long before his weight gain, are brushed off because of him being fat. Like some problems are obviously weight related or exacerbated by weight, but not everything is.
This is the second video of Dr. Youn's that i've seen today that mentions a panniculus. It's my word of the day. I have a panniculus, which i hope to get removed after I lose weight. Thanks for the eudcations!

I had an invasive sinus surgery. The doctor told me he accidentally pierced the membrane that seoarates the sinuses from the brain, and there was some brain fuid leakage. It turned out okay with the exception of 32 staples in my head. But I am okay now. Surgeries can sometimes be scary.
My husband has a hernia that is causing his intestines to descend into his scrotum,, causing it to grow. . He's been told he can't have hernia surgery until he loses weight,, which I sort of understand because the dr. says at his weight, he'd just get another hernia. But, currently, he can't move very much without causing pain. So, how does he lose weight, if he can't exercise.
My buddy's ballsack grew to about the size of grapefruit. It was fluid gathering there from what I recall was an infection. He had an atypical cirrhosis of the liver and other peculiar symptoms, it's not clear what made this happen but I never forget being asked to go home with my buddy after waiting 9 hours at the emergency center at the hospital as the triages during the day had basically made him the least important guy. And I saw people who needed to remove their bandages and stuff go before him. It was enfuriating. This sometimes happen in countries with free healthcare, as the resources are simply limited to whatever the current government wants to spend on medical.
I was badly assaulted by a man and after that i started to have seizures. I went to the doctor and told him about all this. I was then 20 years old and weight 124 pounds.... Left the room and called another doctor.. Turned out to be epilepsy... So yeah doc nr 1, thanks for being concern abt my "overwheight"
man i will never understand any doctors who's immediate solution for patients is just "loose weight". im a plus-sized person, and i struggle a lot with PCOS but every doctor ive been to has just blamed it on my weight without caring about any underlying issues or family history with PCOS. i also know somebody who has been trying to get surgery for their back for years, its basically broken and in 24/7 constant pain, but no doctor will agree to do the surgery untill they "lose enough weight", which they've been doing for years, they arent even that overweight either. i get that in some people, being overweight is very unhealthy and can cause major health issues but its not the case for everybody, and it just seems like doctors like to discriminate against people who arent skinny no matter what and ignore the real issue instead of actually helping them :(
I mean, with surgery, If someone is seriously overweight it can be a lot more dangerous to go under anaesthetic, but it would have to be a significant weight. But it's so wrong to immediately assume someone's weight is the cause of their issues. It''s a one way ticket to missing something.
As someone who is now obese * because* of my medical issues yeah, I get it. Thankfully I haven’t had bad experiences with that but my mom who is in the same boat has. Her bmi is morbidly obese but that’s just because we have giant bone structures in my family. She’s certainly obese, but not morbidly. Drs have looked at her bmi and judged strictly on that. My brother who isn’t even done growing has a size 14 shoe, he’s like 6’2. My mom is 5’10 with size 12. I’m 5’7 with size 11 and my wrists are bigger than my mom’s. Pretty sure I’m short for my family because of my eds, my cousin is also short and she has it as well. We also have god awful metabolisms, my mom and I are too broken to exercise, I have oral allergy syndrome so I’m allergic to produce and I have depression so I just don’t even care anymore. We ate super healthy as kids and I was a 3 sport athlete but I was still like 15lbs overweight(I weighed like 180 bc of my bones and muscle). So my brother and I who have depression just gave up and sugar give happy chemical. A thing my parents noticed that that rns seem to be much better at their jobs than drs for some reason. And neurologists tend to think outside the box as well. So for like your gp id try to get a rn instead of a dr
Losing weight isn't going to do anything about his scrotum... That doctor was being SUPER lazy... Why do so many people get into the medical field if they don't actually want to help patients (the ratio of empathetic, caring doctors to the ones who are just straight up jaded is way too low. In fact there should be NO jaded doctors because jaded doctors fail patients)... Why do so many brush off patients if they don't know what the problem is and then brush that patient off with BS like "lose weight" or some other thing that won't solve the problem. Why the surprise that she stuck around? Men are the ones far more likely to abandon a partner who can't be sexually active, or a partner that is diagnosed with something terminal, while women are the most likely to stick around and support their partner...
The stats says you are lying about women being more likely to stick with their partner. According to Jimenez law firm 70% of divorces in 2022 were initiated by women for heterosexual couples. As for same sex marriages 70% Of the divorces filed were female couples.
@@petelee2477 I'm talking about a specific rate of divorce, not the entire rate of divorce. I am speaking specifically about the rate of divorce when a person becomes terminally ill or can't be sexually active, not the base rate of divorce as a whole. And according to a study conducted by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, it was "confirmed earlier research that put the overall divorce or separation rate among cancer patients at 11.6 percent, similar to the population as a whole. How could his doctors possibly think this was a weight issue after SEVEN YEARS of this being a problem? They should be struck off. (and American health care needs a completely new system. The stories I've heard are blatant malpractice & extortion.)
can the USA PLEASE COPY A EUROPEAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM so people can go to the doctor right away and just deal with stuff like this before it weighs 100 pounds?! 1st world country in 2023... unbelievable
In Britain they have national health care, but they can wait months and months for surgery. They can also be scheduled for surgery and have it cancelled repeatedly because of lack of beds.
I know the truth to your words. I am in desperate need of surgery to replace my left knee but the 17 different orthopedic surgeons that have turned me down have all said to either to my face or in my ear that they won't do it because "I'm too fat for the surgery to do any good".
I have lymphedema swelling above my scrotum. It started while I was taking radiation for skin cancer. It started out the size of a lemon and has become the size of a cantaloupe. I have been to 4 different surgeons and they tell me to loose weight. The forth surgeon says she can remove it but my medical insurance rejected the surgery 2 times now. Saying it is cosmetic. The swelling is hanging to my knee now. When I urinate it goes everywhere. We keep lysol and lysol wipes in the bathroom for that reason. I have to wear loose fitting pants because it will not fit in the leg of my pants anymore. People look at me all the time. I can't ride my motorcycle. When I go to sit down in a chair, it catches the chair and pushes the chair backwards. It's sort of like some jokester pulling the chair backwards as you try to sit down. My back hurts anytime I'm walking for more than a couple of minutes. The first surgeon got angry at me for asking him to check me for cancer. It took 2 years of radiation to get well and I was worried that it had come back. He was a real butt hole and wouldn't let me know if it was cancer or just lymphedema. He finally did a test to see if it was cancer but would not let me know the outcome. He was in the room with me while they did the test, it was done with dye and not a biopsy. 3 week later he finally called me and said it was lymphedema.
Rotation of staff and simply being physically fit. I know more than a couple surgeons who can run marathons and bench two plates.in their 50s. You'd be surprised how many were in the armed forces before medical school.
I've seen something very similar but, in an elderly gent. Unfortunately, he was in a nursing home & refused care for months. He ended up with gas gangrene! Emergency total scrotum removal?
I remember when my grandpa passed away. He had a brain tumor, and I thought that's what killed him. I found out years later that the doctor that was supposed to remove the tumor actually removed a part of his healthy brain instead. When he was taken to get help by another doctor they said the damage was already done, and he passed away shortly after.
I’ve, been able to really improve several conditions I have through research online!! It’s amazing to me that doctors are so bad in today’s world! Stay away from them if you can and research everything they tell you to do and any drug they tell you to take BEFORE you act on their advice!
I’ve always been one to absolutely HATE when doctors always put everything on oh you need to loose weight. NOT everyone has to lose weight and not everything is weight related.
I was just looking at your collagen supplement Dr Youn and it sounds wonderful. I hope that someday it can be made available outside of the U.S, as I am in Australia. Of course I understand that there is a cost involved 😊
I have a Vericocele in my Scrotum caused by faulty ducts. Like a Vericose cluster of veins the size of a third testicle on the left side. I am a healthy person at 150 lbs and I will never complain again after seeing what this man went through.
For example, diabetes, heart disease etc... now your legs are swollen (cancer hidden as adema), you have issues with urination (cancer hidden as kidney failure from diabetes or heart disease), dizzy spells (tumor hidden as sugar highs/lows or high blood pressure)... co morbidity causes a lot of these issues. Obesity causes a heck of a lot of co morbidity issues... good luck correctly diagnosing someone when everything is a red herring

Been there 3 times, finally I got a historectomy
Maybe I'm old school medicine, before HMOs. We'd see someone in the ER with a complaint. Do a basic evaluation, you find nothing, you send them home. If they returned to the ER within 3 days with the same, or worse, they were an automatic admit to medicine (unless a surgical problem was evident.) for formal evaluation.
Sad!
Happens in other countries, too. Women statistically get worse care than men because they are perceived to be „hysterical“
I really feel sorry for this gentlemen. It is hard to believe that it took a TV show seen by the patient in order to confirm his diagnoses.
Amen to that! SMH

I’m an RN and hear it being said to patients
When I had a large benign abdominal tumor and went to the ER for unrelated issue, the ER doctor tried to blame my issue on my abdominal girth.
Good for you, "telling that Dr. what time was.". More need to hear it. I'm a retired nurse & admire those that do.

You trip falling up stairs. Try tripping over air. That's me. 😳😂
I know right. The system can be so condescending
I'm so sorry to hear that about Dan. 😢
@@shivertheiguana The term fatphobic is referring to many doctors just tossing 'lose weight' as a fix to issues before actually taking any in-depth looks at the patient.
@@lauraelliott6909 Thats fucked up. I hope youre better now.
Unfortunately these kinds of stories are depressingly common :/ fatphobia kills, and regularly too.
If I want I can have the scars lazered off but she did tell me they may come back due to the amount of cysts I've had and the amount of tunneling in my skin. Regardless I feel so much better about them because I don't have several oozing cysts. Now they're maybe 1-3 around my period and no bigger than a marble. 😭😭😭😭
Fuck doctors who fat shame.
This is what happens when doctors just have 10 min with you instead of trying to figure it out.
And then expect the patient to pay them without actually doing any work to find out what is going on.🙄

What's amazing is that the scrotum skin can even stretch that big. It's a miracle the skin doesn't break and the fluid doesn't just burst out on its own.
The skin stretches, but it also gets thick and nasty.
If you had ever closely looked at a scrotum you would see it's composition. It is a different kind of skin, made to stretch. Like a cow's udder, almost.

My dad has something similar, grapefruit size. This was many years ago. I was once under for 13 hours. Glad he made it.
The guy is thankfully still alive and has a youtube channel called Daily Dose of Dan
Unfortunately, Dan passed away in April of this year
@@LisaNix2 Damn that sucks
I looked.. he does have a youtube channel. His posts were frequent, but stopped about two months ago. :(

Typical doctor diagnosis when they don’t know what’s wrong with someone: “You need to lose weight.” My Crohn’s disease went undiagnosed until I was 32 because I had so much inflammation it caused weight gain. I’d had symptoms since I was a toddler. Literally almost died from internal bleeding.
i cant even imagine how hard it was living with that.. ouch
Seen that show. I'm looking forward to Dr Youn's reaction & thoughts.
The lack of his doctors to figure this out is appalling! My sympathies. I have a small amount of lymphedema in my lower legs post cancer surgery from removal of lymph nodes and radiation. This is a no fun condition even when slight.
I applaud 👏 his wife for supporting him through his taught time.
God bless this man.I pray all in his life is so much better soon.
I can't imagine the complications from a 16 hour surgery. For example, my Acoustic Neuroma surgery lasted 8 hours, and I ended up with a massive blister on the end of my tongue and another on the roof of my mouth. After eight years, I still have no feeling on the tip of my tongue.
Blisters from what?

Dude finally saw a scrotologist. Operation success was a significant milestone in scrotology. Cheers!
No one should be fooling around shaving that area. Hair grows down there for a purpose, leave it alone.
Oh dang that reaction is both rare and very very dangerous. Glad he's okay!
Dan appears to be young enough to overcome these complications with persistence and perseverance. God Bless him!
He did regain his ability to walk but apparently passed away earlier this year.
This poor man needs help. He has got to be miserable.
He did have the surgery, but unfortunately he passed away in April of this year

Co morbidity issues
This is the second video of Dr. Youn's that i've seen today that mentions a panniculus. It's my word of the day. I have a panniculus, which i hope to get removed after I lose weight. Thanks for the eudcations!
😭 I bet he felt so good seeing that guy on TV!! I can only imagine the relief
Omf! What a horrible condition for this poor man to have endured. I am a retired medic, and remember men crying over the severe broken and itching skin from yeast infections on their scotums. I can't believe what I'm seeing here. God bless his wife
I love the look on Dr. Youn's face.
Hopefully he will pull through!
Giving up is not a option!!!
My prayers are with you my friend.
Someone said he learned to walk again but his fb said he's passed away since 😔
Wow I hope Dan is healing and able to live a normal life. It’s amazing how far the medical profession has come. Giving hope to those who need it.
Something needs to be done about the doctors that told him to just loose weight. If they think his scrotum is fat they clearly didnt pay attention in medical school.
I truly feel for this man. I wish him and his wife nothing but the very best❤
Had my apron removed.52lbs of skin. The complications my mons pubes has enlarged and hangs past my knees. The previous surgery s cause damage. Looking for a Surgeon who can help!
sorry to hear this Cathy...hoping you will find the appropriate help
Diet is 80% weightloss
Congratulations to him though. It must feel absolutely amazing to be rid of all that after being ignored for so long.
I was badly assaulted by a man and after that i started to have seizures. I went to the doctor and told him about all this. He took like a tooth pick and poked me in the face to see if i could feel it... And yeah, i did.
So he said "Its nothing wrong with you but have you ever been concern abt your overweight?"
I was then 20 years old and weight 124 pounds....
Left the room and called another doctor.. Turned out to be epilepsy...
So yeah doc nr 1, thanks for being concern abt my "overwheight"
Dan unfortunately passed away in April of this year😕
I have the same problem, but haven't been able too find a doctor to help anywhere here in Florida???
man i will never understand any doctors who's immediate solution for patients is just "loose weight". im a plus-sized person, and i struggle a lot with PCOS but every doctor ive been to has just blamed it on my weight without caring about any underlying issues or family history with PCOS.
i also know somebody who has been trying to get surgery for their back for years, its basically broken and in 24/7 constant pain, but no doctor will agree to do the surgery untill they "lose enough weight", which they've been doing for years, they arent even that overweight either.
i get that in some people, being overweight is very unhealthy and can cause major health issues but its not the case for everybody, and it just seems like doctors like to discriminate against people who arent skinny no matter what and ignore the real issue instead of actually helping them :(
I mean, with surgery, If someone is seriously overweight it can be a lot more dangerous to go under anaesthetic, but it would have to be a significant weight.
@@justkittensbeingkittens5892 not to be that guy but big bones dont account for that much extra weight at all
@@erinkinsella91 yes but also no. It’s not the bones themselves, it’s the muscle required for a big frame that causes the weight. I was very muscular.
I would like to know how Dan is too! What an ordeal. Good Luck .. you can do this!!
Men are 7 times more likely to leave when the woman is the patient instead of the man.
And according to a study conducted by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, it was "confirmed earlier research that put the overall divorce or separation rate among cancer patients at 11.6 percent, similar to the population as a whole. However, researchers were surprised by the difference in separation and divorce rates by gender. The rate when the woman was the patient was 20.8 percent compared to 2.9 percent when the man was the patient."
I wasn't talking about over-all rates of divorce buddy, I was talking about the rates of divorce when a partner becomes a patient, I know it's hard, but do try to stay on topic.
@petelee2477 Women who are married also tend to be unhappiest then single women.
Married men are happier then unmarried men.
How could his doctors possibly think this was a weight issue after SEVEN YEARS of this being a problem? They should be struck off.
(and American health care needs a completely new system. The stories I've heard are blatant malpractice & extortion.)
I feel bad for them. That has to be extremely painful 😢
Prayers for this man. God bless him.
There was another man with the same issue several years ago. He actually had a little cart for his enlarged scrotum. He did pass away too, I think.
Worked with a guy who had this, but he was skinny so it was suuuuuper noticeable
can the USA PLEASE COPY A EUROPEAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM so people can go to the doctor right away and just deal with stuff like this before it weighs 100 pounds?! 1st world country in 2023... unbelievable
I agree but tbf he did go to Drs but they turned him away, making the excuse that he just needed to lose weight to fix it.
the current system makes more money.
In Britain they have national health care, but they can wait months and months for surgery. They can also be scheduled for surgery and have it cancelled repeatedly because of lack of beds.
@@suchfail9698 but they turned him away and blamed it on weigth due to the us system. They don't need to deal with it if they not get a huge payday

Yeah when you are a little bit overweight most "bad" doctors just dismiss you and blame it on your weight.
I know the truth to your words. I am in desperate need of surgery to replace my left knee but the 17 different orthopedic surgeons that have turned me down have all said to either to my face or in my ear that they won't do it because "I'm too fat for the surgery to do any good".
Shows how life can throw some truly unfair challenges your way. Wishing him the best.
Poor guy, god, please heal him we pray
3 week later he finally called me and said it was lymphedema.
how do doctors handle that long of surgery? i can't imagine someone doing as good of a job at hour 16 as they did at hour 1.
They had multiple surgeons on hand, and they also know to prepare for things like this.
OMG! So sorry.
Suddenly I feel like my life's problems aren't really that bad.😮
I have a Vericocele in my Scrotum caused by faulty ducts. Like a Vericose cluster of veins the size of a third testicle on the left side.
I am a healthy person at 150 lbs and I will never complain again after seeing what this man went through.
This is the problem with fat phobia. You miss real issues.....
Obesity causes a heck of a lot of co morbidity issues... good luck correctly diagnosing someone when everything is a red herring
i always appreciate you dr youn! from the day i first started watching you and you had that video about string face uplift..lol cant remember the proper name anymore..and you responded to my comment..im so glad ypu have so many followers ciz you deserve it..
It’s a disgrace, doctors leaving people to get into this kind of condition. This is what happens when you let private corporations run healthcare.
Almost two weeks ago I had a hydrocele anectomy with a cist removal. Mine was as large as a softball. Its not fun very scary but life is better now. Don't wait.
