For anyone confused as to why you would see him live: He does live mixing. I went to his show in Coachella in 2010, and he absolutely rocked it. Some of it wasn't as good as his albums, but some of it was definitely better. Especially when almost everyone that is like him does NOT live mix. So, yeah, while I can understand your confusion, if you got to one of his shows, you'll have a damn fine time.
I don't care what this is, its just awesome to me. Its kinda like when people say a comedian is only funny because he says F*&K a lot or talks dirty. It don't matter, if your laughing its funny. So if your shakin your ass its good goddam music.
@fargizzle Fun fact: This guy actually has a genre, and it's called Bastard Pop(mashup). Just because he uses only a computer and plays samples at the right time doesn't mean he has no talent. I've played the piano, violin, guitar, and both types of basses (upright and electric), and I know that making mashups is obviously not so easy. It's a matter of determining the tempo and the overall "flow" of the song (meaning: do the samples sound good together and are the transitions good?).
wow, i mean even if you don't like the guys music, he just hypes you up so much that you can't help but dance. like he said in a commercial, "I'm Girl Talk, and i'm here to make you sweat" :D
its not audiomulch, but its a similar program he wrote... he said himself its easier than audiomulch and more geared towards performing live.... i fucking love girl talk :)
@HeroicHereticsHH3 Your missing the point, this guy punks almost all dj's out there. He doesnt use any DJ software, MIDI controllers, CD decks or turntables. He just loops samples on a cheap sound editing software and mutes and unmutes the samples on a single seran wrapped laptop. People love this guy cause he is the life of the party and his mixing is actually genius. Everything is edited and looped in harmony and he cues up the samples at the right time depending on where the energy is going.
@mandoace292 I first thought that .....effectively 90 % of what he his doing is recorded....but it is a perpetual work in progress the 10% he is doing live groes bigger n bigger each time....and become part of the 90 % the show after.....I'm a turntabliste but I respect this guy so much.....different perspective ...very inspirant for the music bizness...
my favorites when the crowds all next to him and chicks are trying to pull of his boxers, so he's gotta hold them on with one hand and play with the other. or when this chick keeps trying to kiss him so he had to tie his shirt around his face to stop her rofl
@CasperGgoodwood thanks. I guess some people just don't understand this guy's level of partying. When it comes to mash ups he's the one of the few that can pull it off. It's obvious he's mixing bad pop music in such a cheesy way that sounds awesome, only using the right samples. Other Dj's just make asses of themselves trying to make bad and embarrassing mash ups, plus its all about context and his presence which makes him successful.
You're underselling what "going from loop to loop" actually is. Thats like saying DJ's just pick records and press play. The guy pre-arranges the entirety of his sets yes, but each track is compromised of oh say 8 individually layered looping samples which he starts and stops continuously during the set. If you were familiar with Audiomulch, you'd know this could be 150-200 sample beats that all are operated individually and thats without even factoring in that he adjusts the tempo on the fly.
@fargizzle "Computate" isn't a word, neither is "seran wrap," apostrophes are a thing, ellipses and full stops are not the same thing, and you can create capital letters with your shift key. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
As a musician on one hand I can see that what this guy is doing requires a level of skill I can also see that in the progression of popular music which has always been driven in part by available (often merely affordable) technology and night life trends what he is doing represent a logical aesthetic progression. On the other hand as a musician I can't help but feel that anyone playing a recording on stage in front of a large crowd is an imposter.
he mixes absolutely everything on his laptop LIVE no matter what anyone says. mixing is so fucking hard you dont even know. its unbelievably hard to do and u can only imagine until you try it
forget Ed Banger, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Ting Tings et al : this is THE guy of 2008. The sound, the spirit, the attitude, the vibe, the party of NOW. What a momentum. Mindblowing shit!!!
Nah man, music festivals have crazy schedules. With bands performing literally all day, the best usually go on at "decent hours". It could just be late as shit, and all the good bands are done.
Whats the first track he jammed out to? Not the entrance, but the first track. Its that old song from the 70s or 80s with the rockin Bassline then the organs come in
i play guitar, bass, drums. piano, trumpet, and cello, and harmonica. im the best at guitar and drums and to tell u the truth...mixing is probably one of the hardest things ive ever done. on instruments u just need to know a scale or two and to make it sound even better understand modes which is combining scales. mixing music requires the knowledge of tempos and many more things
its not really drag and drop. its full knowlege of TEMPO and syncing up everything. audio levels is easy but its tempo. u cant just throw in random songs. u then need to speed up/slow down the audio to make the beats in sync. i recently put kids/juicy together. kids is 120 bps and juicy is 140 so they slowly dont go toegether at all
what? i went to a concert of his and everyone went fucking crazy, including me. i hated the majority of the songs he mixed together, but the with way he incorporates everything is sick
it's pretty easy to do this in audiomulch. All you do is take two separate samples and make sure they are on stretch. this will play them back at the same tempo. requires little/no knowledge of tempo, actually.
I have no idea why I said that.. My bad, if I was on stage and 10,000 people were cheering me on, I'd be in heaven lmao. I guess it's cause I never experienced Ultra when I made that comment... :D
you could never do what he does. its not easy to do, just because its a computer does make him different from any other DJ, everyone has their own style.
I am not denying his inventiveness or his creative skill. Assembling a composition from recorded sounds is essentially the same as assembling a composition from notes assigned to instruments. I don't see how what he does (based on this video) translates into a live show?
it is what you call sitting at a table in 1991, you are very old and take a long time to make all day representing your doubles, don't you... i have been waiting... i guess noel fielding can just Lolita it up with elissa bolling. i am not padme...
perhaps i didnt explain what my comment was on. I appreciate what girltalk does 100%. I just think watching him click through iTunes on stage just doest seem exciting nor impressive. What ever though, everyones allowed their opinion.
This set is still dope in 2020.
2023 still going
Still love this after all these years...
Pimp C & Sinead still one of my all time favorite mash up/mixes!
13 years later and it still slaps
I saw Girl Talk in Denmark a few weeks again, totally different atmosphere
everyone was on stage and people were going nuts, it was awesome
brilliant mix
Man, this gets me so, so, so amped.
Thank you for this upload!! Seeing the master of mashup at work. Love him!!!!
He sure has balls doing a gig like this on a little laptop computer.
This stuff is brilliant.
3:44 blows my mind
i love this dude
omfg... passed out just b4 this show!! im still kickin me self..
I saw him last night, so much freakin fun!
the nothing compares part is fire
I love when he calls out the fan in the front row holding there ears! Love Girl Talk!

He is a Hero, great mind/memories. I mean, who can perform like this WITHOUT headphones on a single laptop?!
I don't care what this is, its just awesome to me. Its kinda like when people say a comedian is only funny because he says F*&K a lot or talks dirty. It don't matter, if your laughing its funny. So if your shakin your ass its good goddam music.
Girl Talk was the soundtrack to the late 2000s
this is the balls

that's pretty crazy. way to go gregg gillis.
wow, i mean even if you don't like the guys music, he just hypes you up so much that you can't help but dance. like he said in a commercial, "I'm Girl Talk, and i'm here to make you sweat" :D
now this is fucking music
FUUUUUCK....this guy know music and takes it to heart. His passion is astounding. I feel him.
Fuck ya... this shit is fun!!! Ive been waiting fer DJs to do some great shit like this. I love music too! "WHERE YOU AT!?!?"
the opening was epic!
its not audiomulch, but its a similar program he wrote... he said himself its easier than audiomulch and more geared towards performing live.... i fucking love girl talk :)
OK, I'll admit it, I used to hate this guy's music. Then I realized how much of a fucking party this one guy can create. I am a believer now.
Sick Dance Moves.

The song is In Yo Face by Unk.
i would love to meet him, i have seen him live his friggin great
my favorites when the crowds all next to him and chicks are trying to pull of his boxers, so he's gotta hold them on with one hand and play with the other. or when this chick keeps trying to kiss him so he had to tie his shirt around his face to stop her rofl
Love him or hate him, but he's on stage with a following and gets paid to play music that he loves so I'm liking that!
@CasperGgoodwood thanks. I guess some people just don't understand this guy's level of partying. When it comes to mash ups he's the one of the few that can pull it off. wow........... our generation............
I remember a few years ago, he said he used Audition and AudioMulch. And a calculator.
damn i gotta go to one of these shows
cant wait to see him at wakarusa!!!
@ilovefantasticmusic the instrumental part if that is what you are referring to is 3 6 mafia - stay fly
and we still comin back to this

first saw him on RIP, mixer manifesto.. had to biy it b/c of this guy and dj marlboro.. insane..
@TouchFasterImaging hell yea dude that docu is sick.
I really like his setup. Just a Windows laptop and a mouse!
No Macbook or Ableton live with an APC.
@crmsn1989 thanks so much!
well said.
@fargizzle "Computate" isn't a word, neither is "seran wrap," apostrophes are a thing, ellipses and full stops are not the same thing, and you can create capital letters with your shift key. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
these haters must be related to the people that say picasso wasn't an artist

Front row where you at? your holdin your ears! where you at!
Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin
forget Ed Banger, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Ting Tings et al : this is THE guy of 2008.

Mindblowing shit!!!
yes

I was there, I don't remember a damn thing of the whole festival!
Whats the first track he jammed out to?
Not the entrance, but the first track.
Its that old song from the 70s or 80s with the rockin Bassline then the organs come in
TRACKLIST PLISS =D
he may not be the best looking guy out there but he can roll a dollar!
i play guitar, bass, drums. piano, trumpet, and cello, and harmonica. im the best at guitar and drums and to tell u the truth...mixing is probably one of the hardest things ive ever done. on instruments u just need to know a scale or two and to make it sound even better understand modes which is combining scales. mixing music requires the knowledge of tempos and many more things

what is the first sample that he plays as he walks out??? He has the "Girl Talk" thing over it... from 0:25-0:45
well i dont know about that: im a geophysicist, and i love music nerd SHIT, and im wild and fun too
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares.
he is probably checking his facebook for updates during the songs
does he do some things spontaneously? as in not on his albums?
I have no idea why I said that.. My bad, if I was on stage and 10,000 people were cheering me on, I'd be in heaven lmao. I guess it's cause I never experienced Ultra when I made that comment... :D

04:21
He's just checking his email. He doesn't even need to do anything.
wow what songs was he playing? haven't heard those
whats the last song called, the one in the background kinda 80's?
@wahl1000 They are a different kind of art
Sweet Elmo, Theis! Scoring lots of points with the laides, I see.
What is the song brought in at 6:44 that sound like a synth
reppin the burgh to the fullest
starburys!
How exactly were you able to get on stage? I was wondering the entire set who the camera people were and what they were doing.
yeah you're the only one
omg wauw
@SnoozMusic its anti-spill... at most GT shows people are on stage with drinks and such...
I am not denying his inventiveness or his creative skill. Assembling a composition from recorded sounds is essentially the same as assembling a composition from notes assigned to instruments. I don't see how what he does (based on this video) translates into a live show?
@PJSnodgrass you have no idea how much he is doing, its actually very difficult
anybody know the VJ for this show?
Girl Talk is just good dance music. It's fun to listen to at a party or driving with your friends, nothing revolutionary but still a good time.
Before his time. A dj at his level now being this good literally makes $50M a year touring. He was revolutionary to be honest.
what are the names of the mixes he did here?
Anyone know that awesome synth song at 6:47 is?
by himself for sure
@optionaxis Now that is positivity! Go girls,
he.wrote.his.own.program.fix your face.
it rocked it's peanutbutter, then I did, with a duck. milk and cereal.
what the hell, at least they think i'm hot.
it is what you call sitting at a table in 1991, you are very old and take a long time to make all day representing your doubles, don't you... i have been waiting... i guess noel fielding can just Lolita it up with elissa bolling. i am not padme...
my spy therapist used to get tortured in africa with ducks.
Hi, I have a big ass and my mom's name is becky.
i also hate milk and cereal... and george bush... i used to dance as a cat from cats and my birthday is 9/11
LIL WAYNE AND SINEAD O'CONNOR....:) lol the best.
@optionaxis Why not?
what's the song at about 8min40sec?
hey does anyone know the synth beat that comes on at 6:45 ?
play your part (part 1)
perhaps i didnt explain what my comment was on. I appreciate what girltalk does 100%. I just think watching him click through iTunes on stage just doest seem exciting nor impressive. What ever though, everyones allowed their opinion.
