I personally don't think it matters whether or not you were "there" at the time, Good-ass music is what it is: good-ass music. I get both ends of the spectrum from older fans. As a 27 year old, I get the cold shoulder from "purists" who believe you have to be over 35 to "truly" appreciate and enjoy industrial and it's various offshoots. I don't let it bother me, because for the most part I've had great experiences from fans who actually love the fact I wear my fandom (sometimes litterally) on my sleeve. KMFDM is fucking amazing and ikonic. "The kids just love it!!!!!"
I saw KMFDM at the Metro summer of 1993, one of the best shows ever. Drug Against War was the second song and it was the one of the few times I found myself in a crowd so spastically berserk that I felt the need to move to the back. En Esch came out for an encore is a full Elvis white leather jumpsuit. Fuckin' awesome.
filtermadg, i'm pleased to say that i enjoy the originators of industrial music like throbbing gristle, but KMFDM have been going strong with their own sound of industrial since 1984, so I think they have earned a place in original sound of industrial music...not only that, but skinny puppy also has that right as well, plus others.
I love Einstuerzende Neubauten, Diamanda Galas, CMI, Pig, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy,NIN, Ministry , RevCo. From post industrial era I like only Haus Arafna. I hate pover electronics/noise. Dont take it personally! Thats because when I was about 20 and realised that I cant live without industrial music I met lot of people who told me - you shouldnt listen industrial any more, it's gone, now you must turn to power electronics... I never liked it, have heard it too much.
You are right, and what you are telling is correct but this song is "'true industrial" for me too. I regard myself as industrial freak, but I like only this second wave of industrial music. Not able even to listen to oldest bands.
I wonder about teenagers who listen this stuff. I'm also too young for 1992, I was 13 then. At least I can remeber early nineties. This should be music for people who are about 40 now.
I was just out of my teens when you posted this comment and I had been listening to KMFDM for about 3-4 years. I don't listen to much KMFDM these days but it definitely hit a sweet spot back then.
great song and band. As a 35 year old fan of them from the beginning...they still are great today but the early 90's was special

It’s good stuff, and I’m glad you enjoy it.
Things like this will never get old. Love it because of this special feeling - what a feast of life!

Rip the system
Yea there will never be anything like it again, unless there's a reunion someday.

I offered them 200 dollars for that Canvas in Seattle-1999/2000. They said no.
Sucks that the breakup was on pretty bad terms, from the sound of it :/
