Unusual Car Door Designs

- One of the most refreshing features which deviates from the ordinary conventional approach to car design is the choice of door mechanism. Sometimes it is different merely for the sake of flamboyance, other times it's surprisingly practical. Make your own opinion and pick your favorite.
NOTE: The year indicated in the upper right corner suggests the year of introduction, not necessarily the year of production of the displayed car.

Lincoln MkVIII 'Disappearing Door' prototype.. the coolest invention ever and one of the few that never went into production.
- yet. ;)
But it is not safe at all. Just image how you will exit the car if somebody hit you in a side.
Z1 got it almost
@@R2D2G7 good point
@@R2D2G7 that's problematic with any door. the disappearing design, done correctly, can have structural advantages giving the passenger better protection from side collisions.
6:17 rare footage of Doug Demuro in something else than shorts.
THIS is a NEW pair of jeans! I got them to wear FOR THIS CAR REVIEW and at the end of the review I will give them a Doug Score.
funny how Jay Leno is ALWAYS wearing jeans and the ONE time Doug decides to wear jeans was to go see Jays Mclaren F1 xD
@@themac6356 I've gone mental.. Reading THIS with dougs voice in my head 😄
The Lincoln Mark VIII is the best of all by far.
It’s kind of witchcraft
that was just a concept
Had a friend that bought a DeLorean brand new. The central locking system NEVER worked right; you could be easily trapped inside. But try opening one in the rain, I promise you will be drenched! Loved the Graham!!!!!! Just beautiful.
I love how seagull wing doors are used on a ton of cars but still considered "weird"
Just look at the numbers! It is weird.
I wasn't aware that that many cars were manufactured with, "Gull Wing" doors.
Cool! 👍
@@Zodroo_Tint meh, still way less weird that sliding doors. I can't consider them weird after the Back to the future trilogy, they're too normal for me now
@@Zodroo_Tint but compare it to the other numbers. Probably less than 0.1% of cars have gullwing doors
@@rowdy6274 right. I can think of, like, two base models (mass produced, mind you) in the last 40 years....
we need more van type sliding doors for the sake of parking
Quite a few after market companies will do the Lambo doors or full doors for most cars
@@tezlaactual6582 those don't help much
@@THESLlCK Lambo doors do as long as your aware of what's above you
That's the reason my wife refuses to get an suv. We have kids and although we try our best to instill in them to be careful when they open a regular door, they're so careless and will still slam the door open with a car parked next to us. She will only drive a van.
@@spiralnapkin front doors should slide too
Everything old becomes new again.
now u see the Lincoln Mark 7 that one was absolutely practical, how fast and easy having the doors lik3 that made getting out of it. should've made it available its awesome
Try some of these when it's raining!
Gull-wing doors for the win.
You say that like normal doors are somehow superior in rainy conditions. Have a little creativity man if anything gull-wing doors are the best for rainy conditions. I think every door design has its niche advantage and that’s what makes them cool.
You got the Holden Hurricane in there!
All these styles of cars and yet we have the only current choices of Egg or Egg with Cheese.
01:59 the Lamborghini Marzal is the most stunning car I have ever "seen". Always been fascinated by it. Would love to see one in real life one day.
My uncle has one. I've ridden in it many times! No, you can't meet him - he lives out of state and only comes over on the weekends! 😂
@@WatanabeNoTsuna.
Hope you enjoy it. It is beautiful.
B.t.w I am not only out of state, I am out if The States. 😉
Did that Cyclone have a tiny door inside it's door? Lmao
The best one was definitely the second last. Where the doors slide underneath the car. Very clever.
The delorean is a real treat to see in person. They’re incredibly wild on the inside
Man those cars are sexy, back when art was incorporated into automotive and took a bigger priority than profit margins.
A lot of these are luxury cars or concepts. But yeah, i will agree with you.
Turnpike Cruiser lifting roof over passenger seat so people can glide in. Always loved the 300SL was it, with the Batwing. I was hoping a good looking female got out in the appropriate year skirt
Love it! From when cars were individual and more than computers on wheels. 0:05 The Graham 97 type really was a beautiful place to start 2:28 and I never get tired of seeing our Aussie Holden Hurricane which is now in the Holden museum in Echuca.
“Alternatively” made me laugh pretty hard! Great movie
Kapısına oturup şampiyonluk sevincine çıkamayacağınız araçlar.
Great memories, a few of which my parents' cars had. Love the T-Bird sequential turn lights, which were maybe on a few other brands. Thank you!
Your channel rules!! Keep making these kinds of videos
Well.. one huge issue with almost all of these door designs - when the car is flipped over after an accident - there's to way to evacuate from it (not even mentioning this has to be done really quick sometimes).
AWESOME!!! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
beautiful classic
Great video thank you !
Nice collection 🤠🤠
all these awesome designs from ancient times are amazing and currently there's no style and innovations like these
Still quite a few modern cars with odd and innovative doors, Tesla model X for example has a pretty unique gullwing door of sorts.
Love your series including Party Tricks 1 and 2 !!! Hey, viewer, sure to watch them too!!!
It's amazing how many of these look modern still...
Brazil watching.. .amazing
Great designs.
Alpha's forward hinged gull wing doors were brilliant.
They're sometimes known as "butterfly wing" doors :)
Loved how the old guy had the get out of the gull wing Benz down packed.. as if hi be a new g...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
BMW z1 i didn't get it.. doors opened like window glass & Lincoln mark 8 ..
9/10 video
Cuz it would be awesome to name the how the type of door is called
I have a new appreciation for the powered sliding doors on my Toyota Sienna.
So many cars that I see for the first time... 👍🏼
Great cars
Браво 🙌
That Chevy Astro III with articulating seats makes gullwing doors look “normal”.
Very cool! And dang! that Mercedes Benz 300 SL is lacking room. I had no idea it was so cramped inside. Or it was just that people were thinner in the 1950's
Liking your channel. My third episode and subscribed.
EPIC video length
Finally found a vehicle 710 .
I liked the 4d Lincolns & T-Birds in the 60s & 70s had those "suicide" rear doors!
Nice
now this is a video !
6:33 rollin up to the club like
You deserve more views! This is epic! There were some cars that I didnt even know they existed.
Some designs are very practical.
Title of video: "Unusual car door designs"
Half the cars: Gull wing doors and Lambo doors
Honestly the only one on here that is truly unusual is the Marzal, simply because it's a Lambo with Gullwing doors.
But that Lincoln M7. Chef's kiss.
Imagine if you're taller than 5'8", then most of these cars and other sports cars aren't for you, let alone their weird doors.
Lamborghini mazerall was looking hard core beast
Great video. It would have been nice to see the Panthermobile here :-)
Some of those doors look clumsy to get out of & in..
These videos make me realize, they where living in the future long time ago.
The door opening design of the Cadillac Cyclone and the Bertone Ramaro are possibly the most useful especially if you're in a crowded parking lot.
The Lincoln Mark VIII prototype door design should have gone into mass production for all vehicles. 6:31
think about how expensive replacing the motors must be
@@brendalballentine9422 Plus when it breaks you are fucked
@@nickrustyson8124 And it would most definitely break.
Nice music man!!
Parov Stelar 🔝
Definitely - the Graham type 97 is the way to go to prevent door dings in today's vehicles. BMW Z1 is good, Lincoln VIII is excellent.
The BMW Z1 wasn't made out of metal, so you won't get dings anyway 😉.
holy crap, that last one
Leo deserved an Oscar just for the way he opened the door to that Lamborghini
The first thing that comes to mind..?
Water Leaks..LOL
ikenga gt looks awesome
You missed the most innovative car door system of all, the Peugeot 1007, I know cos I have one, superb car
Yes, good point on that one ! ☺
-But I've heard that the doors are slow as
...he...*cough*...hel...
...*slooow*.....
-There is one
(with a cool 😎 yellow colour)
in my neighborhood...but I've never met the owner.
Most innovative? What the hell are you talking about?
@@Zodroo_Tint He's talking about the van-typed doors I think. Not that innovative if you ask me but pretty usefull for getting in and out of a parked car
You mean the electric sliding doors that a shit ton of minivans had before it? Except this one had giant door handles . So Peugeot had to reprogram the doors so the rotating brusges of a car wash could not open them 🤣
What part of PRE-2000 did you miss?
6:33 great!
Future stuff in the past 🤯🤯
We really do need the cockpit opening doors in production cars imagine if you were in a tight parking space and you won't have any problems getting in or out because of the cockpit door
I remember reading one of the first road test on the DeLorean, how he loved the "Gull Wing" doors until he drove thru a rain shower! When he opened the door it poured a cup of water onto his right shoulder!
Pay the price!
Or move to LA!
2:27 that's a little known piece of Australian automotive history right there, I'm pretty sure it was the first car to have a reversing camera too. Unfortunately Holden never did anything with it.
They really knew how to make beautiful car back then
When I was a kid a guy in my neighborhood had the Sterling kit car
I need to know the song details!!! I love this.
all those doors can't beat the ease of use and access of regular doors. at least you don't look stupid with regular door when entering of leaving the car
Cool! I miss the bubble cars like the Messerschmitt Kabinenroller and the BMW Isetta though.
ruclips.net/video/3FtTwGFHMdo/видео.html
I really need this soundtrack
Its not unusual its future predicted design
BMW Z1, coolest design by far.
The Lincoln Mk 8, if it went beyond prototype.
Find a full service Gas Station, line all of these cars up, say fill them up, and hilarity would ensue.
Why? The whole point of full service is so you don't need to get out of the car. That would make more sense if this was an "unusual gas filler designs" video.
33 stradale 😍
4:00 BRILLIANT haha
The "music" was just gawdaffull.
Awesome designs. A chiropractor is recommended tho lol
And a hard hat.
You forget the Heinkel Kabine, the BMW Isetta, and the Messerschmitt KR200.
He made a different video just for microcars
@@spotstate3548 Oh!
Lincoln mark 8 takes the cake
Who's singing the music doing The Jive? some of the cars in that era still cool
Tight as some places make their parking spots, would be nice to see more cars with gull/Lambo style doors
Parov stelar
Gullwing, rotating and sliding doors
Starting with Holden Hurricane at 2:28 _”NoW Let’S Get fREaKy”_
Just realized when viewing the outro, you missed the BMW Isetta.
I made a separate video about bubble cars ruclips.net/video/3FtTwGFHMdo/видео.html
I always knew there was a reason they made that late 90s Lincoln so UFO-like...
У Линкольна , был лучший вариант , из всех представленных.
Bertone ramarro is so awesome
Need more of these kinds of Cars in GTA5
We can't never drive them in real life
Atleast in dream/game world 🤠
Love my Delorean 👌🏻

its it me or the ford gt40 and the tesla model 3 door handles are very similar
The gull wing doors look cool but what a PITA to live with. I can see why they never caught on.
6:18 Sooo will the doors open horizontaly or verticaly?
Mclaren: YES
Amd inspired by the Toyota Sera immediately preceding it in this video!
You should have put in a koenigsegg door they’re incredible.
And every one of em, impractical.
