Just a heads up to anyone wanting to play Daytona USA, emulate the PSN version through RPCS3. That one is made with gamepad controls in mind and actually plays properly. The original model 2 version's controls don't translate well to a gamepad, you need a steering wheel for that one. That's how I always did it on PC, arcade version for steering wheel and PS3 port for gamepad.
I remember seeing someone say that when scrolling web pages on the steam deck the best way is to use a rotational motion on the touch pad instead of just sliding up and down or left and right, I wonder if that's actually possible to do in the emulator. I really need to get around to installing all this stuff and trying it myself.
OMG, if you can sync saves between Onion OS and EmuDeck. That right there, is a KILLER FEATURE. :D I love my Miyoo Mini. It's great to bring on any small trip or commute. I have EmuDeck installed on both the Steam Deck and my PC, and being able to continue playing and pick up the progress from any of those devices would be absolutely incredible!
Awesome video as usual, Russ! This was perfect timing! I was actually running through EmuDeck this week on my Steam Deck. Though, I had no idea Sega Model 2 and 3 were now available to play! Growing up in the '90s, I played many of these arcade games so being able to play them comfortably at home now is just incredible! I know nothing about the Jaguar, but might check it out as well. Sega was one of the "Kings of the Arcade" so will thoroughly enjoy revisiting many of these classics and trying new ones! I'm glad we are correcting history so that these games aren't lost to time! I honestly wish Sega had ported more of its arcade games to home consoles, but glad we can now enjoy them again!
I'm selling most of my physical collection to buy a 1tb OLED with a 1tb sd card. This is the future. Physical games collecting has become a rich person's game and most physical media will eventually degrade anyway. The Deck will revolutionise the gaming market.
It already has, it's affordable, it's powerful enough, it's got an amazing community of support, all the ones that came after the deck are windows based, they are more powerful on paper, but they didn't sell as well as the steam deck so the community is bigger it has more support from indie developers like emudeck for instance
Man, I find myself gaming on my desktop PC less and less these days - the Steam Deck just kills it with the possibilities and convenience. Thanks for the vid as always, Russ!
I installed a steam deck OS on my main gaming PC and that alone has made gaming so much better. As an adult, convenience really is everything. SteamOS streamlines the PC gaming experience very well 👌
I've been playing w/ model 2 and 3 on the steam deck for a while now and now that its part of ES thats awesome. Couple things with those 2. In ES the default start + select doesn't exit games as those are not default hotkeys for 2/3. I had to google the exit commands for both emulators and then manually add it to the default retroarch exit menu if that makes sense. Also, w/ those emulators I found it alot more fun to turn on gyro for aiming and use one of the back buttons to toggle that on/off. Much easier to aim than w/ trackpad.
Seeing that Star Wars game emulated at the end is a dream come true! I remember playing that at my local movie theater, and having the same experience of only being able to play it a handful of times because of the price. So cool that I can finally play it again! What an amazing time to be alive for retro gaming!
Damn, I had no idea Model 2/3 emulation was even in the works for Steam Deck! The ability to play Scud Race and Sega Rally Championship 2 in a handheld is insane.

about touchy controls in some model 2 games. The emulator tries to emulate arcade steering wheel so instead of flicking stick from side to side you need to pull stick up and turn it left and right like a wheel

I updated Emudeck and it completely broke my Yuzu. Edit: I found it it’s because it defaulted to Ryujinx in Emulationstation. You can switch it back to Yuzu in settings under “alternate emulators”
It looks like the analogue stick for the model 2 games is actually only operating digitally i.e. fully on or fully off. No wonder the racing games feel twitchy
Hey Russ, did you not noticed weird controller setup made from new EmuDeck update? We are also missing Citra, Cemu and Yuzu templates. If Citra and Yuzu are back in EmuDeck, where are the controls themes?
18:11 The Model 2 Emulator doesn't have mouse controls pre-configured for shooters... you have to select that yourself by changing the SteamDeck controller profile. Is that what you meant?. And there's no means of quitting Model 2 properly - you have to press the Steam button and then close the window running the game you;'d selected.
I spent the last week or two trying to decide on the Miyoo Mini or the Anbernic. I pulled the trigger on the Anbernic, but now I see the OnionSync feature. DAMN. 🤡
I just want to know, having not dared to update EmuDeck since *that* day, if it is now safe to do so? Seeing comments all over the internet in recent weeks about how it’s messed up people’s saves and configurations and I just can’t take that risk when all these new features are nice to haves but not game-changing.
Im on the same boat. My Emudeck is still at 2.0 and Emulation Station at 3.0 and dont want to mess everything up. It took a long time to get it set up the way I want it.
The reason Daytona USA feels o touchy, along the other racing games, it´s because you really need a steering wheel to play it properly. A joystick is not precise enough nor has the force feedback to do it justice. That said, Daytona USA 2 plays incredibly well on a gamepad. It´s criminal that we haven´t had any official ports of that game.
Hi Russ, thank you very much for both the Emudeck and SEGA Model 2 & Model 3 for Steamdeck tutorials, they were fantastic. Everything is “up & running” quite well except for Star Wars Arcade Trilogy in Model 3, Opening the game produces a black screen and does nothing else. Are you aware of any technical issues with this game? Or potential solutions to fix the issue? Any insight you may have would be greatly appreciated.
I still havent updated going back to before they started having issues and frankly given the comments I see still on reddit with people having problems I guess I never will
Is it possible to have the emulators to use the same frikkin control scheme? Not sure why but it seems that nobody had the thought to actually unify the control schemes. If you use ES then you use the same shortcuts, but as soon as you switch to PS3, PS2 or DS for example, then you need a mouse to change settings, or need to start all the emulators in desktop mode first, to configure them all. Would be great if they would just use the same settings... Same buttons to swap screen size, same buttons to open the menu, same buttons to quit and go back to the frontend BTW isn't better to get the DC version instead of AM2 and AM3 versions? The dreamcast version usually has a lot of extra features, while the arcade has most often than not just the vanilla experience
I just got into sega model 3 emulation and it is definitely a hassle. I love the games but getting them to work is a headache. Ive settled with just using the cmd prompt to use the emulator as it has been very difficult getting it to work with a ui.
Hey Russ, I've been watching your vids for a while now, and it even encouraged me to buy a Steam Deck. Major problem I have now, is where to find ROMs. Do have any recommendations? Keep doing what you're doing! All the best!
My fav model 2 games are Sega rally and Top Skater, awesome arcades at the time. Have you tried if fightcade works on Steamdeck, to play retro games online?
Hey Russ! This is amazing! Thanks for the continuous high quality content. Qq, what did you set on the controllers for Star Wars Trilogy Arcade? It runs pretty well for me but the joystick is incredibly sensitive, making it difficult to aim
Nice video. I noticed that you got Sega Rally 2 and Star Wars Trilogy working with model 3. Those are he only 2 games a can't get to run from my model 3 gamelist. Did you do anything special to the settings? And can you tell which romsset version you used, and maybe whitch versions of the games?
First, you'll want to add the device to Steam via Steam ROM Launcher, that way you can launch it from the SteamOS interface and create per-game settings. Once you've set that up and launch the game, press the STEAM button on the left side and go into the controller settings, and now you can map the left or right analog stick to the mousepad if you want to use those, or set up the controls for the left trackpad, etc. I would also flip the axis for horizontal (and maybe vertical too) because they were off for me. Then you can also adjust the deadzone and sensitivity to really dial it in to your preferences.
Brilliant video. Just received my Steam Deck OLED and am diving into this update! I have a quick question regarding the resolution scaling within games though! First, does it apply to all emulators in Emudeck, secondly, it seems to require holding start and using the d-pad, though doesn't holding down the start button also act as a shortcut for changing the hotkeys control type? Many thanks again :)
i had to factory reset my steamdeck and now everytime i try to download emudeck it says "sorry you have to close emudeck" and then i have to redownload it everytime. why isnt it working?
The compression tool seems nice, does it convert the roms to .chd completely? Like if I installed a ps2 rom in the file then I use the tool does it completely convert it to .chd and that is what I would see? or would I see two files?
Been having trouble with rpcs3, the games run in desktop mode but wont run from steam OS, also they wont show up in emulation station. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW isn't better to get the DC version instead of AM2 and AM3 versions? The dreamcast version usually has a lot of extra features, while the arcade has most often than not just the vanilla experience
I just got into sega model 3 emulation and it is definitely a hassle. I love the games but getting them to work is a headache. Ive settled with just using the cmd prompt to use the emulator as it has been very difficult getting it to work with a ui.
Hey Russ, I've been watching your vids for a while now, and it even encouraged me to buy a Steam Deck. Major problem I have now, is where to find ROMs. Do have any recommendations? Keep doing what you're doing! All the best!
My PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games all stopped working with this update.
i did my update last night and followed the video and now when i log in to emulation station it wont find my roms 😞
Phenomenal Video!!
My fav model 2 games are Sega rally and Top Skater, awesome arcades at the time.
Have you tried if fightcade works on Steamdeck, to play retro games online?
Great vid, subbed
I love those Sega Model 3 games
Has the 2.0 version of Cemu caught up on motion controls? 1.27 was the only one working with that recently.
Those games look Crisp clear
Hey Russ! This is amazing! Thanks for the continuous high quality content. Qq, what did you set on the controllers for Star Wars Trilogy Arcade? It runs pretty well for me but the joystick is incredibly sensitive, making it difficult to aim
Wife: "Why do you keeping ordering new joysticks for your Steam Deck???"
Me: "Don't worry about it." (Starts a new round of Hand Truck Racer.) 😅
Nice video. I noticed that you got Sega Rally 2 and Star Wars Trilogy working with model 3. Those are he only 2 games a can't get to run from my model 3 gamelist.
Did you do anything special to the settings? And can you tell which romsset version you used, and maybe whitch versions of the games?
Helpful Video, I don’t think that was Battlemorph on the Jaguar CD though…
Where and how can I modify the settings for Star Wars Trilogy ? The analog controls are all over the place.
@@RetroGameCorpsI’ll give it a shot. Was mostly using Emulation Station with it. Thanks.
I love that vrry slick skin for your SD it has that shiny "robocop" look to it, 😍 could you please give a clue which one is it ?
What theme are you using on emulation station? Looks clean.
ArtBook!
Been having trouble with rpcs3, the games run in desktop mode but wont run from steam OS, also they wont show up in emulation station. Any help would be appreciated.
