@Pink Morales That was out of necessity. Sonic is definitely not a friend of shadow. I feel like sonic would like to see shadow as a friend but shadow doesn't share that feeling

I always thought Shadow was...indifferent to Sonic if we are going by Sonic 2006. Not really someone he would hangout with, but does respect as someone who shares his abilities, and maybe even admire his views of always doing good and saving the world. Since he figured out that's what Maria wanted HIM to do with her dying breath.

The most recent episode of EmuEmi's "Sonic & Tails R" had what I feel is the best rendition of Sonic and Shadow's relationship. The two of them weren't entirely close, but they did share a mutual respect and even managed to playfully banter while working together to stop the bad guys.
Sonic and Tails R is amazing THAT is the tone the games need to get to. THAT is how Sonic should be, he can still make jokes, but will drop the jokes when things get serious. THAT is how Shadow should be, where he's more than just an Edgy McEdgelord, and he actually cares about people and remembers his promise. And THAT is how Tails should be, where he is allowed to stand as equal by Sonic's side and do things, rather than being weighed down by Classic (Sonic), unable to do things by himself. Even being unable to fight regular Egg Pawns he would have smashed back in the day without breaking a sweat.
Yeah that relationship works too shadow being the stern older brother and sonic being the free spirited and energetic younger brother. They may not see eye to eye on most occasions but still know when to get along.
Here is an idea for another "Relation" video, it could be between Rouge and Knuckles...are they rivals? Friends? It's something interesting to discuss.
I'm pretty sure she cares about Shadow more than she cares about Knuckles, so theres nothing significant to knuckles and Rouge but playful bickering rivalry.
@@sonicsucks20 In my opinion Rouge cares about Shadow like a brother or an ally, she respects him...but with Knukcles sometimes they interact like rivals, other times like friends and Rouge likes to flirt more with Knux than Shadow...maybe she wants something more than the Master Emerald.
@@sonicsucks20 In my opinion she only cares about Shadow like a big brother (cause he is older than her btw) which is kinda shown in sonic x and in the games of how they communicate. Also even in a game Rouge does have feelings for Knuckles but doesn't really show it seriously. Of course she has done some comments of her and Knuckles being together in sonic x but she doesn't say it to a point where people take her seriously cause of how she says it but she does in fact have feelings for Knuckles and has a sister and brother relationship with Shadow to sum it all up.
I certainly see there being respect between the two, even if they don't do things exactly the same, what with Sonic being more a free spirit compared to Shadow being more methodical. I thought Sonic and Tails R got Shadow bang on with how he should be, being more than just an Edgy McEdgelord who doesn't remember his promise. Sure its only an unofficial radio drama, but the fact that Jason Griffith was voicing him it certainly elevated the already great writing, especially when he was with Ryan Drummond. That was certainly something I never expected to hear.
I remember in one old comic (don't ask which one, I don't remember) Rouge asked Shadow if he and Sonic are friends. Shadow replied: "No, but he has my respect." I think that sums it up.
That was Sonic Universe #2, and that's not quite how the conversation goes. ROUGE: My-my-my! SHADOW: What? ROUGE: Look how far your relationship has come! SHADOW: Hmph. He has my respect, that's all. ROUGE: Of course. Far too _scandalous_ for you two to be friends. The clear implication is that they _are_ friends, but they're both too proud to admit it.
I see them as friends. They have a deep respect for each other and see each other as equals, although I'd like to think Sonic is just a tad bit overprotective of Shadow because of the ending of SA2.
That would be interesting to see. Maybe it could be a thing for sonic to feel the need to save shadow every other game or something because he wants to make sure he'll be OK.
@somebody-jm6rs lol it's been a while since I wrote that comment... I know what Ao3 is now, and I get the joke Also it would be hilarious to see a fic based on that exact concept lmao
Sonic and Shadow are the same to me. Two sides of the same coin. Heroic hedgehogs who do what they know is right. SEGA shouldn’t turn him him into the complete opposite as that was never the point. They can have different methods and Shadow is more aloof. That’s how it be
In the 20th anniversary book, The History of Sonic the Hedgehog, it states under Shadow's bio that Shadow is an anti hero, and Sonic's rival and friend! For another relationship video, I'd like to see Knuckles and Rouge! In the same book, it states that the two may have feelings for each other. What I find interesting, and this may make some people upset but it is an observation/theory, is that ever since 2017, most of SEGA, especially the JP side, seem to want/like Shadow and Sonic together as more than friends, possibly lovers. It's a lot to explain and is often overlooked because when it comes to love interests for Sonic, Shadow rarely appears in anyone's minds (except for the ones who are aware of it/like it but from experience, they aren't outspoken/keep to themselves) for it's always either Amy, Sally, Elise, or Blaze. It takes a lot of reading in between the lines, observation of behavior, and analyzing other medias besides the games for as said, the recent games don't provide much (except Team Sonic Racing for there is stuff in there like for example, balloons of the both of them everywhere in the game). The main piece of info comes from the Sonic Channel JP Sonic x Shadow story that came out in July this year, the month when Tanabata is celebrated. Another important piece of information is the Sonic Channel picture of Shadow with Maria pointing up and in the background is the Milky Way separating a blue star on the left and a red star on the right. In her book there is also a picture that displays a blue and red figure separated by the Milky Way. Tanabata is a holiday that celebrates the star-crossed lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi, meeting once a year by crossing the Milky Way via a Magpie bridge. Orihime is the blue sapphire star of Vega so it is highly likely that Maria is explaining the story of Tanabata to Shadow/the picture is inferring that story. Switching over to the Sonic x Shadow calendar story, this story is very important and beautifully written. In this story, Sonic goes to Mission Street (which contains a bridge) to watch his favorite once a year astronomical show of the ARK being in the same presence of the moon. It is inferred that Shadow is the ARK and Sonic is the moon. Just as the star-crossed lovers meet on Tanabata once a year, so does the ARK and the moon. This can symbolize how Sonic and Shadow meet every once and a while. Since the astronomical show is Sonic's favorite, one can make the connection that the moments he meets with Shadow are his favorite. From this story the reader can also infer that Shadow does remember everything now from the way he gazed at the show. Going back to the picture with Maria, the blue star represents Sonic while the red star represents Shadow. Therefore, they are being portrayed/alluded to as those star-crossed lovers from Tanabata. Under the story is a summary of Sonic and Shadow's relationship thus far. A portion of the translation can be found at the Sonic Wiki, under Shadow the Hedgehog with his relationship to Sonic the hedgehog (it's the last paragraph last time I checked--the one that mentions that Sonic is the only one that can reach Shadow's heart (though often he doesn't)). As for other observations, in 2017, Sonadow, the ship name, was officially recognized by SEGA in Twitter takeover 3. Many people dismissed it because of the question that asked Shadow what he thought of it in which he answered, "No." I believe this also discouraged many fans who liked it due to people inferring that meant Shadow hated it as well as Sonic for the earlier question involving the file. What people failed to realize was that Shadow is a tsundere, meaning you cannot take his words at face value. Another interesting detail is that that question was the only question Sonic was silent on in that takeover. I'd even say that Sonic possibly has feelings for Shadow (for example the way he talks about and interacts with him in Team Sonic Racing or how in general he seems pretty happy around him these days--it's a lot of explaining but that is a short example). What is even stranger is that even though Shadow apparently said no, in the years after, especially in the year 2021, the year of Sonic's 30th anniversary, Shadow has been appearing a lot/there is a lot of them together. In 2019, there is Team Sonic Racing, for 2020 there is the IDW issue 35 carry, in 2021, there is the Sonic Dash Pirate outfits (This in itself has a lot of connotations the more you think about it and Sega Hardlight in their tweet used the term Swashbuckling but there are also things to think about like a ship and ships have cannons but that's more on theory/inferring speculation), the Sonic Channel JP calendar story, the 2nd half of the 30th symphony having a Shadow song and highlighting Live and Learn, the first 4 figure Shadow statue, Shadow appearing in the Minecraft DLC, Shadow appearing along Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as a necklace by King Ice--just in general Shadow has been appearing a lot in merch. You can attribute this as him being the 2nd favorite character but it certainly is strange that he is really appearing a lot during Sonic's anniversary. For Shadow's character, I've seen that there is a discourse of how he is being portrayed. A lot of people found issues with how he is being portrayed in IDW (which may possibly why they added Evan to write as well). Because there isn't much the games can provide, I can understand why there is confusion and discourse. Prior to issue 33, Ian was solely writing the comic. However, starting 33, Evan was added in and she mentioned herself that Shadow was now on the correct path (since she was now helping with writing). From my observations, especially looking at Twitter takeover 4, Shadow has seem to have grown to become kinder and soft--this I'm guessing is being mistaken for Shadow's character being bland or botched. I saw this theory somewhere from someone else: People like IDW Shadow because it was portraying Past Shadow. They want him to stay angry, in the past, and prideful when in reality he has mellowed out and has moved on from his past throughout the years. They also do not realize that he is being bias written in IDW (being demonized as much as possible but is hidden). The person who came up with this theory pointed out that in some Issues, Shadow is introduced besides as Team Dark leader, also as "Sonic's grim rival" Why add the grim? Even further, later issues even omit his introduction such as issue 35 where Shadow saves Sonic via a bridal carry. The big indicator, which will upset people, is the fact that there seems to be a bias like for Sonamy in the comic. An example is the fact that in IDW, Sonic touches Amy willingly in a way that does not have to do with saving her when in the games that does not happen unless he is pushing her away (Generations). (If you look up drama about Sonamy fans, one of the things they do is demonize Shadow. I don't know if Ian is biased with Sonamy considering his old fan comic and therefore tries to put down Shadow as much as he can but it is something to think about. Sally fans also noticed things about him like why he considered putting Nicole with Sally when Sally was being established with Sonic at the time.) It's just really strange that why is Shadow the same everywhere else, except the IDW comic. In all, there just has been a lot of misinformation and misconception concerning Sonic, Shadow, and their relationship. Like how people believe they hate each other or are only rivals. It almost seems information about them or Shadow in general is being hidden on purpose. (For example, the official book I mentioned above, it exists, but I don't know why it is not cited in the Sonic Wiki. The translations for the JP calendar stories are hard to find too!). Their bond is difficult to explain for it is something one just knows or feels in the soul. There is also a lot of analyzing involved. It's very upsetting to see people who ship them get bullied, chastised, and looked down on. Look up here, almost all Sonadow videos (not ones that specifically support it) such as reaction videos and you'll see how mean people can be in both the comments and the video, putting down artists/writers. For those who do not understand why people ship them, I'd highly recommend watching Hunter x Hunter (2011). The relationship between Killua and Gon in that series is beautiful and moving. Sonic and Shadow have the capability to have a top tier quality relationship like them. It's not about the acts of romance, but rather the deep care, respect, and understanding--something deeper. Most things are said in actions, not words. They are two sides of the same coin-different yet the same. There is also this other theory I have that Sonic is breaking, suffering inside, and needs help and one of the only ones that can pull him out is Shadow but I think I typed too much already;;; That's all just theory and speculations from my observations though! I hope whoever reads this has a great day!
Knuckles doesn't have a crush on Rouge neither does Rouge for Knuckles, and Sonox and Shadow are just main rivals who have a allies respect for each other.
@@sonicsucks20 This is quite an old comment to reply to. Since then, I've done a lot of research and learned the truth. Concerning Knuckles and Rouge, in the book I mentioned, it's heavily implied at the time. The book also states that Sonic, is indeed, Shadow's friend as well besides allies and rivals. If that's too old, a recent video made by Sonic Team Japan even lists that Shadow is Sonic's friend here: ruclips.net/video/gU5z6KE5weQ/видео.html Although, I'm not saying this to change your mind. You can believe what you want, but my own mind cannot be changed because I know the truth. And the truth cannot be changed. People have been saying misinformation/ malicious propaganda about Sonic and Shadow's relationship on purpose for their own selfish gains. If you're part of the organization that does this, then it would make sense why you would be telling me this and spreading misinformation. If you're not part of the organization, then you have been tricked by them to believe their lies and are now being used by them to spread their lies for free.
I like to think Shadow and sonic are friends who act like two competitive brothers. Sonic would tease and poke fun of him every now and then by saying he would have done a certain task better (even if he wouldn't have) and both would do the usual competitive race every now and then (as long as they're not in the middle of a mission) but would always watch eachother's back.
I think Sonic and Shadow are friends but they pretend they are not friends , something like those kind of friends who argue a lot but at the end of the day they are friends
I like to think Sonic's relation with Shadow developed in a similar way to Knukles, but where as Knukles is more of a friendly rivalry, Shadow has more of a competitive one, now, that doesn't mean Shadow isn't his friend(or that Knukles isn't competitive eighter), but you get what I mean, Shadow keeps more to himself too and opens up more to Rouge or Omega than to Sonic, while Knukles usually hangs with Sonic
Unpopular opinion: Shadow is not a good game although I liked Shadow's relationship with Sonic in it. They are vitriolic best buds/bash brothers who work well and have their best moments together despite their differences in personality. If Shadow goes down the Dark path in that game there is a real sense of tragedy in Sonic's voice, its clear that he cares for Shadow. Going forward I would like to see the dymanic between the two in Shadow's Pure Hero path replicated if they are going to work together.
In my opinion yes Sonic and Shadow are friends they care about each other. The only reason they fought in Sonic Adventure 2 was because they both had different motivation. Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog the game messed this up by making Shadow and Sonic fight for no reason. Their relationship should be like how they are in Sonic o-6. In my opinion.
Check out Sonic and Tails R episode 6 if you've not already listened to it as it features Jason Griffith as Shadow alongside Ryan Drummond voicing Sonic, and they certainly show Shadow to be more than Edgy McEdgehog Sega seem to think he is these days.
In my personal opinion Sonic and Shadow are friends/rivals. But their friendship is different compared to sonic’s other friendships. They aren’t the kind of friends who go on adventures together and joke around with each other but they are the kind of friends who will always have each other’s back and have mutual respect for eachother.
Sonic and Shadow pretty much the textbook definition of friendly rivals. They'll fight when they can, and they'll work together when they need to. Next time, can you discuss Silver and Blaze's relationship?
They’re not soulmates, but I’m pretty sure they’re the “friends/brothers who act like they don’t care for each other, but do” kind of people. But for some weird reason, Sega decided for Shadow to mainly be cold towards Sonic and pretty much everyone else in the 2010s. Sure, he’s introverted and kind of antisocial, but not enough to the point where he seems to hate everybody. All I know is that the best portrayal of their relationship is in Sonic 06, where they respect each other a lot, but still have that fierce rivalry that doesn’t make them all buddy-buddy. ”Don’t be late.” “Same to you.” That basically describes their relationship(done right) in a nutshell. Also one of my favorite lines from Sonic 06.
people dont want to admit it but forces fixed this, shadow clearly cared for the well being of sonic and the world, i dont recall shadow insulting sonic or being cold towards anyone but infinite
@@RelanTheMan That and Colors DS where he and Omega are at Asteroid Coaster. Really Shadow hasn't been in that many main games after Colors nor have there been many afterwards.
Hearing this, kind of makes me wonder how Shadow will be handled in the movie universe...... maybe the plot will be handled differently to the games/comics the lore..... Movie Shadow and Movie Sonic friendship/rivalry?
The way I see it, they are friends and I don’t see why they shouldn’t be. Shadow redeems himself and puts the past in the past. Plus both of them usually work together, have saved the world together and they both have each other’s backs. Shadow has saved Sonic’s life multiple times. He even shows sympathy for Sonic when he dies in Sonic 06. To me, Sonic and Shadow sort of have a brother relationship. Shadow is like the more mature and serious older brother, who sometimes gets annoyed or angry pretty easily, but he still cares about him.
My answer is they should've been at this point even if Shadow is reluctant to actually voice it out loud, but Sega doesn't realize that Shadow has outgrown his rival role. If they really need someone to mess with Sonic and be mean to him Jet is literally right over there.
Let's just say their relationship is very complicated. They have similar goals with different methods, but will team up when the situation calls for it without objection. They are rivals, but they still respect each other. Personally, I wish they did hang out together more as friends, they have more in common than they think. And they always make a great team whenever they work together.
Shadow was and always will be a hero and anything that portrays him as less than doesn't get the character or the events of sa2. We even learn that sonic is indeed the ultimate lifeform, spoken by shadow himself during the final boss, yet no one seems to acknowledge it.
I say they are friends they do respect each other especially obvious in Sonic o-6 that game has the best characterization of shadow. Shadow shows genuine care when Sonic dies and save him from Silver.
@@yam9195 Their rivalry is inspired by them, yes. However, Shadow & Sonic don't necessarily have a rivalry anymore. They do not have the desire to prove who's better. Shadow has said before his only friends are Rouge & Omega. When it comes to Vegeta & Goku, they will literally stay out of each others fights to see who's best, even if the universe is at steak. A rivalry stems from 2 individuals/factions that constantly want to top one another. That's something Sonic nor Shadow have an interest in doing. They're more like acquaintances.
@@yam9195 They did in the past heavily, but now none at all. Mainly because there isn’t a rivalry lol, and if you’ve read the IDW Sonic comic and DBS manga, there aren’t any.
They're allies and somewhat casual friends, I've always had this feeling that Shadow does things for the "greater good" and Sonic is more Eggman focus, and somehow that dynamic is in the Twitter Takeovers where Shadow always support people in different ways (charity, the cat orphanage, buying in local bussinesses and well of course saving the world), while Sonic is all the time refering to stop Eggman. So if those two aligments (greater good ang Eggman) come together then they'll work together, that's maybe why Shadow would have joined G.U.N., because it gives him the opportunity to work on other matters aside from Eggman, and as the video said, in Sonic 06' it kinda cross paths because of Eggman being involved. But tbh I stopped seing that friendly rivalry in the videogames at least, the Shadow from Sonic Forces is more like the one in 06' with a but of the one in his own game and he doesn't act like he's trying to be better than Sonic, he's just helping. But of course if Sonic stands in his way to do the greater good then that's when they have fights and disagreements (which is what kinda happens in the comics I believe)
I'd argue Shadow is not so much Sonic if he had 1 bad day, but Sonic if you replaced his sense of freedom with a sense of purpose. He is more a Dark reflection of Sonic in that regard. Sonic and Shadow are the same person but motivated by fundamentally contrasting concept. Sonic is a free spirit, who doesn't need a reason for what he does. Shadow is a person who lives for his sense of purpose, and will pursue it no matter what.
Honestly, I don’t think they’re friends. But they don’t each other either; you can still have respect for someone without really being friends with them. I think their interactions in Sonic 06 made it clear that they’ll work together when they have to and have each other’s backs, but otherwise they’d want nothing to do with each other. Like you said, Shadow usually does what he thinks is right, regardless of who’s on his side. They’re opposing ideologies are going to keep them at odds with each other, but they can still agree on a common goal when it counts.
Id say they are but they're more like comrades than rivals and they both respect each other and know what each other can do but they do have some friendly banter
As of Sonic Prime I see these two as brothers-in-arms if I'm being completely honest. They're not exactly friends, but they have a level of comradery that gives them some sort of unspoken bond.
I disagree when you said Shadow did some things for selfish reasons. He never did though. Everything was too save the world and do the right thing. He is a good guy. He made a promise to protect the world and thats what he does.
Same. The "I will fight like I always have" line is him saying he'll always do what he thinks is right for the greater good regardless of who is opposing him. He's not saying he only fights for himself. Shadow is a vigilante. His alignment is neutral good. He'll work with the law when it's convenient, but he'd break it if he had to.
@@mokshasikawar9841 As Sonic himself once said (in issue #170 of the Archie comics) "I don't think he's a bad guy. I think he's just confused, and when he gets things figured out, he'll do the right thing." Shadow would prove him correct in the following issue.
I’d say they’re more tentative allies. Their rivalry is far more antagonistic than any of Sonic’s other rivalries because of their sheer ethical differences (I would not actually say their past is a factor, since Sonic actually has the least amount of beef with Shadow compared to Knuckles and Silver, both of whom directly opposed Sonic whereas Shadow unintentionally got Sonic put in a difficult position). At most they have a begrudging respect for each other due to their mutual friends, and while they will fight for each other, they still are wary of what the other might do.
I'd like to see you do a video on the relationship between Sonic and Blaze, either there relationship as friends or love interests. I think that Shadow and Sonic respect each other, but they also are at odds because they have conflicting personalities, although their goals usually align. There relationship is similar to MCU Captain America and Iron Man during Avengers: Endgame, with the MCU adaptation of Civil War being the events of SA2 and Avengers: Infinity War being the events of Sonic Heros and Shadow the Hedgehog.
it dependa on who you ask if you ask sonic he will almost instantly say " yes shadow is my 3rd best friend right after tails and knuckles" if you ask shadow he will say "no" internally he might think he is my friend if you ask cream she will say shadow and sonic are best friends
I think modern Shadow these days, he fits well into his role. Since stories don't focus on him anymore, this new dynamic makes him fit into the story and feel like Shadow.
@communicating 2 Good observation. I see Sonic and Shadow's relationship as brothers/competitive rivals/secretly close friends. They don't get along most of the time, have polar opposite personalities, and don't hesitate teasing each other. But they do care about each other's well-being and understand their goals and struggles.
I like how 06 established Shadow's character. Unlike in Shadow the Hedgehog where Black Doom uses the past to emotionally manipulate him (at first), he doesn't allow Mephiles to do the same in showing him the future.
I wish Shadow could get a new enemy/rival for future Sonic the Hedgehog video games: 1.) Maybe a new female character as a swordfighter similar to Karai (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series), Ravager/Rose Wilson (from DC Universe), and Blade (from Azure Striker Gunvolt series). 2.) 2 mysterious siblings similar to Prometheus and Pandora (from Megaman ZX series) 3.) Evil counterpart similar to Mephiles the Dark (from Sonic 06), Infinite (from Sonic Forces), and Omega Zero (from Megaman Zero series) Just to try something different for Shadow, and to keep away from Sonic (himself), Team Dark (Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega), and Dr. Eggman.
Sonic and Shadow are friends. They've teamed up multiple times, and while both of them go about their own goals separately, their personal morals almost always align, which has led to respect, trust and friendship between them over the years. While Shadow has shown to have some major walls up, it's only really Sonic (plus Rouge and Omega) that can tear them down and learn more about Shadow's true feelings. This is what makes them a great duo, despite their past as rivals.
Imagine if... Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow turn and fight against each other in Null Space, and Cyberspace for some reason? Similar to Mega Man X and Zero (from Megaman X5).
One more thing! I think Shadow should be allowed to be friends with some more of the cast. Not everyone since he's typically more reserved, but like atleast let Amy join his small friend circle since she is literally the person who reminded him of Maria's promise and helped him. Idk I just think Amy and Rouge dragging him along shopping would be cute.
With 06, he was fine with it and when Rouge said she'll still be by his side if the world goes against him, he said "I will" and wasn't in a bad mood then in Last Story, he's standing across Sonic and Folding his arms trying not to show weakness but eventually closed his eyes and dropped his arms which while not anything too crazy, that was a hint he does care about Sonic and also upset at the loss.
I think they’re more like brothers at this point Shadow is the Asshole older brother who thinks his younger brother is an idiot and sonic is the younger one who thinks his older brother is too stuck up
My ideal relationship for them is a frenemy relationship in between Sonic/Knuckles and Sonic/Metal Sonic. At the end of the day, they'll come together and save the world from evil but in between that, they love to prove who's better in terms of strength and speed. They respect each other, despite issues they may have with the other's personality.
@Pink Morales Sonic and Knuckles didn't necessarily become FRIENDS until post SA1. They respected each other after S3&K, but if they were truly friends, Knuckles wouldn't have been so easily duped by Eggman in SA1. I also never said that Sonic and Metal were friends, I said that I prefer that Sonic and Shadow's frenemy relationship be between Sonic/Knuckles (who were original rivals who became great friends) and Sonic/Metal Sonic (who are actual enemies but also have the passion of proving who's the better "Sonic".
I see them as rivals with a potential to become friends if Shadow decides to open up and Sonic of course would be happy. Except that most definetely this won't happen bc Sega has other plans lol
They have mutual respect for each other however they always get under each other's skin. I'd say they're acquaintances at best since Shadow has stated they aren't friends and although he seems friendly sometimes to Sonic, he still doesn't wanna be his friend lol. I wonder if Shadow and Amy are friends though, I mean he'd insult Rouge but not Amy. He helped her when he had no reason to. He let her hug him for as long as she wished when they first met. He cried infront of her and let her words get to him. I don't know if he doesn't mind her, or does see her as a friend. I wish they had more interactions :(
I'd say yes, absolutely. But they might not be around each other too much, and do their own thing. They definitely respect each other and are friendly rivals. Just look at their interactions in Team Sonic Racing.
If we’re talking before “Shadow The Hedgehog” I’d say their relationship is built off a mutual respect for each other.
I 100% agree I think they aren’t really friends they’re not the guys who would go to McDonald’s together they have good respect tho and when the time is thought they will bond and have a race every now and then

Which episode was this? I'm behind.

I'd say that they're like siblings. Shadow's just the one who's constantly annoyed XD
Yeah that relationship works too shadow being the stern older brother and sonic being the free spirited and energetic younger brother. They may not see eye to eye on most occasions but still know when to get along.
@@xprojectsa3627 Definitely. Also, as far as Silver is concerned, do you think he'd be the youngest? Just curious lol

I agree that they’re like brothers.
I would say that they're blood brothers.
This video just made me love shadow even more.
Here is an idea for another "Relation" video, it could be between Rouge and Knuckles...are they rivals? Friends? It's something interesting to discuss.
Actually that's a pretty good topic, I even posted a comment about that topic as well, Hopefully he can do a video idea on that
Honestly though, what is Rouge's honest opinion of Knuckles, and what does Knuckles think of Rouge when she is not trying to steal the Master emerald?
You should do a video about sonic and shadow's relationship with silver
I remember in one old comic (don't ask which one, I don't remember) Rouge asked Shadow if he and Sonic are friends.
Shadow replied: "No, but he has my respect."
I think that sums it up.

Comics are not cannon
I see them as friends. They have a deep respect for each other and see each other as equals, although I'd like to think Sonic is just a tad bit overprotective of Shadow because of the ending of SA2.
That would be interesting to see. Maybe it could be a thing for sonic to feel the need to save shadow every other game or something because he wants to make sure he'll be OK.

Sonic and Shadow are the same to me. Two sides of the same coin. Heroic hedgehogs who do what they know is right. SEGA shouldn’t turn him him into the complete opposite as that was never the point. They can have different methods and Shadow is more aloof. That’s how it be
Exactly. They're like Superman and Batman. (Or, if you prefer Marvel, Captain America and Wolverine.)
Shadow was always meant to be different from Sonic.
‘You’ve got this, Sonic.”
~Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Generations
There is also this other theory I have that Sonic is breaking, suffering inside, and needs help and one of the only ones that can pull him out is Shadow but I think I typed too much already;;;
That's all just theory and speculations from my observations though!
If that's too old, a recent video made by Sonic Team Japan even lists that Shadow is Sonic's friend here:
ruclips.net/video/gU5z6KE5weQ/видео.html
Although, I'm not saying this to change your mind.
Unpopular opinion:
Shadow is not a good game although I liked Shadow's relationship with Sonic in it.
In defense of Heroes, Shadow only fought Sonic because he needed answers of who he is. Shadow, I can't defend. That game is just an utter mess.

Sokka: You know, it was really unclear.
”Don’t be late.”
“Same to you.”
That basically describes their relationship(done right) in a nutshell. Also one of my favorite lines from Sonic 06.

I think they are friends. It is definitely complicated but they do show mutual respect to each other.
4:28 He's primarily considered an antihero.
Sonic thinks they're friends
Shadow thinks they're enemies
I think there are friends rival, cause when he need to save the world with supersonic they smile each other, is like they understand each other.

@@OriginalxNitex but isn't Sonic and Shadow rivals too just like them?
@@yam9195 Their rivalry is inspired by them, yes. However, Shadow & Sonic don't necessarily have a rivalry anymore. They do not have the desire to prove who's better. Shadow has said before his only friends are Rouge & Omega. When it comes to Vegeta & Goku, they will literally stay out of each others fights to see who's best, even if the universe is at steak. A rivalry stems from 2 individuals/factions that constantly want to top one another. That's something Sonic nor Shadow have an interest in doing. They're more like acquaintances.
@@OriginalxNitex good point but at least their rivalries are similar

They do work together some times so they are
more like "boyfriends" lol
Honestly, I don’t think they’re friends. But they don’t each other either; you can still have respect for someone without really being friends with them.
I think their interactions in Sonic 06 made it clear that they’ll work together when they have to and have each other’s backs, but otherwise they’d want nothing to do with each other. Like you said, Shadow usually does what he thinks is right, regardless of who’s on his side. They’re opposing ideologies are going to keep them at odds with each other, but they can still agree on a common goal when it counts.
Dude shadow is a good guy in his own way
I would say they are good acquaintances. They respect each other. Barley see them interact in the games since 06.

Yes. Just yes. I don't care what anyone says. They should be. They can be friendly rivals sure but they are friends.
He'll work with the law when it's convenient, but he'd break it if he had to.
yeah same
I agree…Shadow is a bit complicated but he’s mostly a good guy :)

@@davebrown2056 yes 🙂
Sonic and Shadow is like Goku and Vegeta and sonic and blaze are friends not love interest
I would say is sliver and blaze then is sonic and blaze because we already know that sonic doesn't have love interest for blaze but a friend
Sonic boom Eggman is sonic's frienemy
I think they kinda act like brothers, sometimes they fight eachother and sometimes not
I’d say that sonic and shadow can be both friends and rivals because of the way they act around each other
Nice video man super underatted 🔥🔥 can’t wait for you to hit 10k subs soon
I miss when Shadow had his own story in every game
it dependa on who you ask
if you ask sonic he will almost instantly say " yes shadow is my 3rd best friend right after tails and knuckles"
if you ask shadow he will say "no" internally he might think he is my friend
if you ask cream she will say shadow and sonic are best friends
I wouldn't say "friendship" but I think they have a mutual respect, being good rivals and coming together when they need to save the world.
I think modern Shadow these days, he fits well into his role. Since stories don't focus on him anymore, this new dynamic makes him fit into the story and feel like Shadow.
i think that they're friends but don't see each other much and can sometimes get on each others nerves but, they do work with each other as friends
I just got a sonic ad while watching this video
I like how 06 established Shadow's character. Unlike in Shadow the Hedgehog where Black Doom uses the past to emotionally manipulate him (at first), he doesn't allow Mephiles to do the same in showing him the future.
I wish Shadow could get a new enemy/rival for future Sonic the Hedgehog video games:
1.) Maybe a new female character as a swordfighter similar to Karai (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series), Ravager/Rose Wilson (from DC Universe), and Blade (from Azure Striker Gunvolt series).
2.) 2 mysterious siblings similar to Prometheus and Pandora (from Megaman ZX series)
3.) Evil counterpart similar to Mephiles the Dark (from Sonic 06), Infinite (from Sonic Forces), and Omega Zero (from Megaman Zero series)
Just to try something different for Shadow, and to keep away from Sonic (himself), Team Dark (Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega), and Dr. Eggman.
I think Sonic tries to be Shadow's friend, but Shadow refuses to be his friend just like he refuses to bond with Sonic's other friends and family.

Shadow & Sonic felt like Batman & Robin in the hero story of his title game (Shadow the Hedgehog).
You just ship shadowy don't you
Oops I meant shadamy.
I think they’re more like brothers at this point
Shadow is the Asshole older brother who thinks his younger brother is an idiot and sonic is the younger one who thinks his older brother is too stuck up
I agree. But you forgot to mention his relationships with rouge and omega.
(And yes,i do know this video is about sonic and shadow but still.)
9:24 I think they are friendly rivals
Sonic and shadows relationship is exactly like Midoryia and Bakugo’s relationship in MHA
I see them as rivals with a potential to become friends if Shadow decides to open up and Sonic of course would be happy. Except that most definetely this won't happen bc Sega has other plans lol
He did open up in 06.
I wish they had more interactions :(
I think it’s a Goku/Vegeta rivalry
Think they should be friends!
I'd say yes, absolutely. But they might not be around each other too much, and do their own thing. They definitely respect each other and are friendly rivals. Just look at their interactions in Team Sonic Racing.
No they are not friends.
Is it wrong to see a video on Shadow while eating Maria cookies? (In my country, there is a cookie called Maria).
are goku and vegeta friends?
because thats your answer.
Imagine if... the Biolizard return from Sonic Adventure 2 and take revenge on Shadow for some reason?
