Just found out tonight that it’s finally been made into a movie. This has been my favourite book since it came out and I’m so so glad more people can experience this story.
it is such a beautiful story and I absolutely adored this adaptation! I hope that as a fan of the book, you enjoyed the film! and thank you so much for watching my review :)
I love how this film creates extravagant feelings through metamodern styles of filmmaking. Listening to Bach while roses surrounding you haha. Crazy. So much to love about this film, some things fell short for me but this was such a worth while experience, I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Yes, you put all my thoughts into words! I really loved this movie and think back on it very fondly. It's such a unique experience and I would also recommend to almost anyone!
I’m late to my party with this. After watching severance (another grief heavy show), I decided to check this out on Apple TV. The one thing I found odd was that the sisters really came off as lovers rather than sisters to me. Am I wrong with this take? They have this intimacy that seems more romantic. The film was a little too twee for the material as well. Segal and the grandma felt like aliens pretending to be her family as opposed to real people (I never felt like they were affected by Bailey’s passing) I know the director was trying to lighten the heavy subject matter but wow it did not work for me. I think a magical realist film about grief (albeit, the mourning angle is really muted) that worked better for me would be Belle which I enjoyed for the music and spectacle. This just feels… misguided.
I'm not interested in anything on Apple. I pay for Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Disney, the friggin Peacock (for my girlfriend), and automatically get Prime since I pay for Amazon anyway (mostly for free grocery delivery for the past 18 months). I ignore CBS, which I'm also going to continue to do for Apple, because enough is enough. Apple came into the game WAY too late to claim a spot. I'm not going to support it pushing its way into the streaming wars on the backs of overcharged customers for decades. In fact, right now I'm already watching so many series that I haven't had time to watch a movie since the Spidey premiere in December. So honestly, what would it give me except stress over more content I won't have the time to watch? My Netflix list grows rather than shrinks every year.
I completely understand not wanting to pay for a gazillion streaming services, I’m just personally a huge Apple fan and I always have been, so I’ve had Apple TV+ from the start. And I disagree with your statement about them coming in “too late”, as their service launched within a week of Disney+ back in 2019, so it’s as valid as any of the others. Again, not saying you need to tack on another streaming service, I just think that more competition in the media space is always a good thing, as it drives content to be better and allows for more visibility for original content that otherwise might not get proper distribution.
@@SashaRaquel I think Disney also came in too late but with all their Marvel and Star Wars and classic Disney content, it didn't matter. And even with all of that, I still waited a year and didn't subscribe until WandaVision. And because the Marvel Disney+ shows tie in directly with the MCU, I HAD TO subscribe. While I am sure there will be a few Apple Originals I miss out on, at least at this point in time they don't have ENOUGH overall content to lure me in. HBO is something I only have when there's a series or three on that I want to watch. Even adding WB/DC didn't entice me. I only signed up after a two-year hiatus for "Peacemaker" and knew a second season of "Euphoria" was out (knowing I probably wanted to see that and had missed the firs season already) and had a backlog of like 3 DC movies I missed in theaters lined up, which will tide me over until "House of the Dragon" starts.

Sorry for the rant. Not directed at you.
