Another great episode, loved it. Your Uncle John laughed and laughed at your singing 😂, I thought it was great and we need more in future episodes. Great drone footage x
Haha great to hear he enjoyed it! All in the name of entertainment! But having the voice of an angel isn’t one of my talents so I’ll probably just stick to the sailing for the next few episodes 😂
Thanks Rory! Really enjoying the drone filming, It’s such a unique perspective seeing your own boat sail. I’m afraid sea shanties won’t be a regular occurrence, Well, not unless I bump my head or start drinking sea water cocktails 😉
Good stuff. I was thinking how pretty she looked under sail, and you thought the ripples in the sail ruined the shot. We're our own worst critics. Thanks for sharing.
Very true! With the way social media works, people will happily point out any faults with what I’m doing… I sort of figured I’d get out in front of them and critique myself 😅
Thanks Alan! It really does feel great to be sailing, I’m pining for a longer passage but I don’t think I’ll get one for another few months. All the best, Morgan
Thanks Craig! I think I’m getting the hang of it now! I imagine yours must handle quite similar, you’ll have to send me some photos when you get back sailing again.
Another great episode Morgan, the drone shots get better and better and Safar looks really lovely under sail. Don't worry about the drone shot with the very slightly slack luff. I didn't notice it and I'm usually pretty quick off the mark with that. A very entertaining and informative video, thank you. Take Care .. Dave
Thanks Dave! I guess as one of the other comments say, we’re are own worst critics sometimes! I’m really enjoying the drone shots and feeling much more confident with it! I’m excited to see you get yours up!
Great episode! -- QUESTION -- I am looking for a full tour of the inside and outside of your sailboat. Is there a tour video? Must say it looks so so clean and perfect inside. Not a scratch or dirt or anything so please do a video if possible as I am sure there are others that would like to watch that. Keep up the great work and don't give a second thought to the "girlfriend" and "car" nonsense. You are living a great life from what I can see :)
I wish I had stuck around to see the bay in the daylight, but I was trying to get moving before some strong winds came in later that week. I’ll have to sail back! Glad you enjoyed this one Jorge, I feel like it’s one of my best, It’s not doing so well on views at the moment though 😅
I love the double enders. I've been after a saltram saga for a while but there doesn't seem to be any for sale in the past few years. I managed to find one but the owner wants crazy money for it :(
I’ve been very pleased with Safar, she’s a really great sea boat, perhaps a little small for a live-aboard by modern standards, but for just me she’s great! I did see a Saga 36 for sale in Mallorca last year, but she was around 60k mark.
@@sailingsafar it's the 40 I would be after, my moody is big for a 36. I want something a bit bigger. Does safar take a lot to get going? Doing you have to motor a lot?
@@sailingsafar also in the 36ish range double enders the alajuela 38 is like nothing else I've ever seen. If I ever get divorced that's what I'll be looking for 😂
@@jamesodwyer1631 Moodys do make fantastic liveaboards, I’d certainly consider one myself if I do find myself needing the extra room. Have you traveled much with yours? Safar is a great sailing boat, light winds she struggles a little upwind as my Yankee is quite conservative, but I’m hoping to get a larger sail when funds allow. In a blow though, she’s fantastic, she just pushes on, stays dry and never feels like she’s out of control. Id be very interested to see what a 40 was like, particularly down below. I imagine they’d be a little tricky single handed in/out of marinas though, even Safar can be a challenge with manoeuvrability in tight spaces.
@@sailingsafar She's a good strong cruiser but not particularly good windward as she has high volume and a lot of windage. She doesn't move well in a light blow either but she has very heavy sails onboard and I don't think that helps. I haven't taken her far yet, I bought her at the very end of 2019 in Mallorca, the covid and Brexit hit. I've been around Mallorca, menorca and ibiza. Last summer when things got back to normal I was working 7 nights a week in magaluf and some days on top of that so since my work season finished in November I have been working on her getting her seaworthy. I start work again in April through to November then after that I plan to go sailing for a year. Over to the Caribbean. The either north to Canada or through south America I'm not sure which yet? She is my first boat so a big learning curve. What are your plans? A boat like yours can go anywhere, she's a serious boat. Why did you choose a saltram?
Hi David, really sorry for the long delay in between videos, I haven’t been sailing for the past 4 weeks as I’ve been undertaking so much work to Safar to get her ready for the season (I’m afraid I didn’t film any of this really as I just wanted to crack on, before I have to return to work) but Safar is looking great and I’ll film a boat tour later this week and do a general catch up before I head off back to work.
Thanks Caroline, I guess my accent is a little mixed as I travel around so much, people often find it difficult to place where I’m from 😅 It was a West - East crossing, from Tahiti to Panama
Great video: and it didn’t ruin the drone shots! BTW how do you find the sunpower flexi panels: are they easily shaded etc.? Sorry another one: who do you use for insurance? I’m having problems when I mention the word ‘solo’
Thanks Ben, All good, hit me with as many questions as you want! I like the sun power panel, it’s current position isn’t necessarily optimal, but it fits in well and is out the way, I can shift it around if needs be as I left plenty of slack in the cables, I personally much prefer panels over wind generators. Even with shading it’s still pretty effective, but I’m very conservative on my energy usage anyway. Insurance wise I’m with Pantaenius, to be honest, it’s not a fantastic policy for solo sailing as it limits how many miles off the coast I can be, but they were highly rated…. I’ll look to renew with someone else later in the year though, as I’m rarely coastal hopping and prefer longer offshore passages.
Great videos, really enjoying them especially as we did a similar route back in 2010. I remember Genoveses bay as being very folly when we stayed there! How do you manage your 240v supply at sea? My wife spotted the microwave!
Really pleased you’re enjoying the videos! What were your highlights/ must visit places from your adventure? Great eyes spotting the microwave, it’s actually something the previous owner had installed, I’ve only used it a handful of times and only ever on shore power. Im tempted to remove it in favour of extra storage,I’m very conservative on battery power at sea, almost like I’m paying for it out of my pocket 😅
@@sailingsafar we spent 2 years in western med, super anchorage off Roses, and in bay of Selva for summer, then overwintered in Gruissan one year, amazing nightly street life around marina from late spring until autumn, best anchorage for us though was port Pollenca or bay of formentor in Mallorca. Thanks Richard! Great to see your still watching the episodes! It blows my mind watching the drone footage of Safar, I know I’m biased, but she sure does look every bit a perfect sea boat when she’s powered up under full sail!
Fab drone footage in this one congrats! Do you have any advice for landing the drone on the moving target Morgan? I know it’s not easy even with two people. We stacked ours on a transat recently and lost it- an expensive loss so any tips gratefully received
Sorry to hear you lost your drone, as you say, they’re a very expensive item, it must be gut wrenching to see it go down! especially taking all the footage with it! I some times wonder if I’m on borrowed time with mine, I’ve certainly got my moneys worth of photos and videos now. So for me, I keep the boat on course, regardless of point of sail and I bring the drone in on the windward side (only if I’m taking lots of spray will I change course) When bringing the drone in, I first fly parallel to Safar, and try to match her speed, once I’m happy I’ve got that, I’ll start to crab in towards me. I never really fly it inboard the boat (too many ropes and shrouds to hit) so I try to get it close enough that I can pluck it out the sky with one hand, but far enough out that I can abort and fly away if it’s not going to plan. I see some people talk about landing it on deck, but that seems like madness to me! Hope that helps, if not I can try to take a proper video of it when I’m next on passage for you. All the best, Morgan
