Took me a about a half hour but I got it. I will definitely practice and use this groove where it fits as a throw in during a jam or song that fits. I usually play a lot of the grooves you share for a set amount of bars or I may play them through the entire song if it works. Eric I don’t think you have a true ideal of how much your videos has definitely help me and others. Learning the basic rhythms is cool but getting grooves that you can use when playing with a band is awesome. Especially when you’re not trying to take over the song but just enhance it. Thanks my brother and God bless you and your family.😎🪘
Been watching all your vids, great channel! I’m learning a lot as I research buying my first set of congas. I’ve been looking into getting a conga/bongo set for my band, which is along the lines of alternative dance or indie disco/funk. Do you think a Quinto/conga (10”/11”) or conga/tumba (11”/12”) pair will suit that kind of music better? Also, for standing up while playing on stage do you recommend basket stands or the drum cymbal type stand?
Hey David!!! Thanks for the support and glad that you’re going on this journey!!’ Soooo in regards to Quinto/ Conga (10”-11”)… those sizes really depend on the sizes of your hands… 10” is a bit small but definitely doable… I would personally choose a 11”/12” combination as an 11” conga is a good size for my hands and can tune it to get that funk vibe…. And I would do basket stands only because I can move it to my liking
@@APercussionLife thanks for the response! So congas are usually tuned a bit lower for the funk vibe? How about traditional conga sizes for funk? Which I believe are 11” Quinto, 11.75” conga, and 12.5” tumbadora. There’ are some pretty good deals on used mid/top tier congas for not too much more than entry level (aspire/headliner).
I know it may seem pretty 101 but can you post a quick tutorial of beastie boys slow ride conga / bongo groove? I'd love to see your take on it. Thanks Eric
Dig it! Can''t have too many funk pattern options in the tool bag! Thank you!!!! P.S. In one of your videos you talked about what notes you tune your 3 drums to. What were those notes? Thanks. Those Mopercs sound great- looks like you put some steer heads on them?
Could you do a video on “Go Go Beats?” These are a funk-influenced/funk-adjacent style of rhythms popular in Washington DC and the surrounding area in Maryland/Virginia. The basic groove is catchy and there is a lot of percussion improvisation in performances, often for minutes at a time. Check out Trouble Funk for an example.
Haha I’m from the DMV bro! Trust I grew up on Backyard Band haha yeaaa I’ve been working on a video regarding Go-Go but I want to make it differently since there is so much cultural significance behind Go-Go that many percussionist need to know about before even breaking down a “basic” pattern
@@fredericinduni my 10” Requinto has about a 1.8-2mm… which considered thick for a Requinto/Quinto… it really depends what sound you’re looking for…. The thicker the head the “dryer” or “less resonant” the sound… the thinner the “more projected” of a sound.. soo like a lot brighter.
@@APercussionLife fair enough, well my quinto is 11' and I love that old school dry sound, so I guess 2mm would be perferct, gotta be patient they're out of stock rn
That funky thing sounds good when you swing it, too. Thanks, Eric.
Thank you so much for this amazing lesson. I will start with it. Love from Calcutta, India.🙏🏻

It certainly broadens The horizon when you mix it up. Creating different patterns and grooves, can really find a spot to fit in almost any song
Yessss!!!!
Sounds awesome 👏 gracias maestro
Very nice let's get a good syncopated alternation to it, and your drum still sound great.
Reminds me of Wine-Flow Disco back in the day by Mass Production (1977). Those new drums are sweet. Sound like warm honey. CRAZY!!!

Honestly I didn’t tune to notes for this video… I just tuned to what I thought sounded somewhat melodic haha
@@APercussionLife not this video. it was another. any general comments about tuning to specific notes?

Tight!
Home Boy......thou art BAD!!!
Btw check Julian Tavares Christian Bro with mad Keyboard skills to fill that drum background.
Let's goooo bro!
Congas sound good
eric, any recommendations for a simple drum/rhythm machine that has a good number of pre-set drum set patterns to play along with?
May I ask you what thickness you chose by Manito ? They sound perfect
About 2.2mm on my tumbas and 2mm on my conga 🔥🔥🔥
@@APercussionLife Thanx for the quick answer man, would you recommend thinner on the quinto or 2mm works good too?

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrravo!
I would love to sit through one of these videos but I’d rather do anything than sit through that many mid roll ads. Won’t do it
