Thank you for welcoming us along to the studio for this podcast, we had so much fun (yes I said fun and RUclips in the same context 😅) hopefully it gives a little insight into the world of cruising and RUclips and the fact it’s no walk in the park. Keep up the excellent podcast gents we have loved them all xx Rach xx😊
Superb interview, thank you. Also, I wasn't surprised to hear Dan talking about the time and care he takes with filming ship tours. They are hands down the best on any channel.
Thanks to Tom and Rach @cruisingwiththe4bs for sharing this candid discussion and insight into your experiences as creators. It is a reminder that there are much more important things than RUclips. Just keep being yourselves and enjoy it. We have both said when the fun stops then so will we. As for the channels buying subscribers they cannot have any real sense of achievement or pride in building an empire on sand.
The lady's honesty is sooo refreshing, as is the honesty of the reality of supposedly making money while people forget the cost of cruises. People forget cruising is deemed to be for the few affluent
Very interesting indeed and some things here that do resonate with me, particularly the refusal of some cruise vloggers to condemn buying of followings just because they now realise their "good friends" are doing it. The hypocrisy of the "community" is real, as is the back-stabbing, the jealousy. I've seen and heard it. I have had so many lies told about me behind the scenes (even from people I would have once considered my friends), I just plough on ahead now and focus on what I love doing. By the way, I'm enjoying your interviewing skills / techniques and might I also add, in response to your comment about me, to be fair, you're nice blokes in real life too ;) Jamie X
Really enjoyed this podcast, frank and honest discussion from all! This gives a truly authentic perspective of the issues facing anyone looking to take this up as either a hobby or full time profession, well done to you all 😊
Great video! Couldn’t agree more about P&O, the P&O of 10+ years ago is no longer and can’t see it ever coming back! My memories of Oriana/Aurora when I was younger will always stay with me, they just don’t have the same feel or familiarity as they used to!
Gran and I went on Britannia last year and it was dreadful, first P and O cruise and the last. So disappointing, I have been told to do the Fjords again but with Celebrity instead.
This was a real eye opener! I'm not a new traveller, but I'm relatively new to the world of cruising (I've only been on a river cruise around Holland). I'm looking forward to my first ocean cruise next July. It's interesting watching vlogs from various RUclipsrs, but I had no idea how competitive it was. I guess it must take the fun element out of it? Great interview, though.
Great interview, lovely to hear the honesty and always enjoy the 4bs videos. Some of the cheating going on is so obvious even to me who doesn’t really use social blade it’s a shame.
The cruise vlog scene reminds me of the Disney vlog scene a decade or so ago. Hell, even some of those people transferred over post pandemic. All of what you mentioned has happened before and will happen again.
So many valid points and loving the honesty. Made me laugh out loud when group cruises weee mentioned. Done one and will not be doing another it was a total shambles. We went and did our own thing to have fun 😂
Very interesting video, lots of topics covered and as a very small channel definitely learned some new things, for example RUclips cheats and the existence of social blade website. 👏👏 It was an honest & emotional episode at times which isn’t easy to lay it all out there 😍
Thanks all, that was really interesting. I hope you do manage to find that happy medium, Rachel and Tom, which works for both of you. I would miss your channel if you stopped YouTubing. Thanks Sailaway Magazine for putting together this podcast!
I agree about valid views and comments and people even saying you've made a change in their lives is the ultimate reward . I live for the handful of people each year who have said I changed their life in some small way (people bringing into solo travel) I have zero goal to make a living on RUclips and I would be very wary of having anything to sell or a set commitment to things like Patreon.
Interesting discussion. Speaking as ‘just a viewer’, I wasn’t aware of this ‘cheating’ before. It has no effect on me though. When I watch a vlog and like it, I’ll watch another from the same channel. If that works for me too, I’ll subscribe. Finding that vlogs are poor and the channel has a disproportionate number of followers, has no effect on my view of vlogs in general on that topic. Good luck guys. Keep up the good work 💪
God I love you 2 how honest you are don't understand why people give thier hard earned money away for for other people too go on holiday so why do the bloggers say this has been paid for by themselves when it's money ftom the patrons
That was really interesting. Thank you. I had no idea about the cheating that goes on. I agree with you about P&O. We went on Arvia a few weeks ago after a break of 14 years and couldn’t believe how much it had changed and deteriorated. We found the experience stressful; everything from booking evening meals, quality of food, staff ratio to finding somewhere to sit outside in the day was hard work. Whilst it is cost effective as a family and I can see the attraction I would prefer to pay more and be happy. We really questioned the whole cruising concept and whether it’s for us. For the future we are now considering something like Azamara, even if we have less cruises. Regarding cruise vloggers I now prefer those who only upload content after their own cruises as it’s more meaningful. The weekly uploads by some vloggers just blur into one. Good luck to Sailaway and the 4bs x
My biggest bugbear with bloggers is they change from their roots or they become irrelevant to my needs. If you find a winning formula just stick with it. Many end up becoming caricatures of what they started out as. Or the start bringing family members and the channel suddenly becomes a family blog. Of course things evolve but it should be a natural progression rather than forced Ben and David get a bad rap as they are seen as being negative but I trust their opinions over many as you never get the feeling it’s a paid promo vid. They stick to what they do religiously
Thanks for watching. We used to have respect for Ben and David, but that all changed when they were supposed to come on the podcast and backed out the day before as they weren't prepared to answer questions honestly, including "what is there least favourite cruise line and why". We got the impression that they don't want to rock any boat which could stop them from getting any free cruises from cruise lines. We also found them incredibly arrogant and pretentious when we met them in person. How they are in their videos seems to be an act.
@@sailawaymag I watched some of their videos and I could not believe what they said about an omellette, an omellette?. In any sutuation ive been on if something was not right, I would take it back. There was no hint of him even talking about talking to staff for another one. It was not a normal approach. If you have a chanel to talk about ships, restaurants etc then you need to address what is wrong, not just moan about it.
I’ve enjoyed watching the cruisingwiththe4b videos. You make enjoyable videos. I hate reading the comments that are personal and really rude. How do you cope with the faceless trolls?
Hi Carol, firstly thank you that’s lovely, as for the trolls it does affect me (Rach) however you just have to have a witty response and move on, some ppl just have nothing nice to say 🤷♀️
@@cruisingwiththe4bs I (Lynne) am like you Rachel, I can deal with constructive critics but take it so personally when people are just nasty, rude and dismissive. The way I deal with it is to sit for a while and read through some of the lovely positive comments we get and that makes me feel that it’s worthwhile doing.
God, if i came across “youtubers” people videoing, bloggjng or whatever, I’m afraid they would be on the receiving end of some sharp dialogue. I would be there to enjoy my cruise/holiday - NOT to see some jerks ruining the peace - thinking they are bloody Steven Spielberg. Cannot stand these people (or any others). ALL TOTALLY PRETENTIOUS👎🏻
Yes, I think I would be the same. Vlogging is just another level of people pushing the envelope too far. This just represents people as they are, inconsiderate and feeling they are the centre of the universe. It looks like cruises bring out the best and worst in people. Saying that my family are going on a cruise, first time. Some of that related to discussions and the Simon Sharma talk on this channel.
I think, its a better understanding of why people want to do this. Is it really inconsiderate to film what you are doing on a cruise ship? I watched one where they were moaning about an omelette, cmon, ever heard of taking it back. Any restaurant ive ever been in ive told staff if something was not right, ive had no problem changing it. Ive seen one video posted this week about comparing cabins from different lines, why do that? I like indepth discussions on ships, like the QM2 like the one your channel did, but ive had discussions with my family about this channel. My family are going away this month and I hope they dont have a vlogger in their face.. ive seen vloggers on one trip and they looked total attention seekers.
